  1. Been Following a discussion on WSF re reports that Conoflex are shutting up shop. I have 2 rods based on Conoflex blanks and they have been super performers especially my 1970's bare bones bass rod which is still going great guns and is my go to 1-3 ounce shore rod. The rod was built for me by Derek Townsend in Bridgend http://tickersworld.webs.com/ and still has its original rings and fittings and has accounted for quite a variety of fish in its day as I have also used it as a lightweight uptider . There is always something special about a Conoflex blank be a shame to see them go Peteg

  13. Alan, I managed to get hold of an original Bruce 5kg on ebay and it is far superior to the clones available .It is a pleasure to use and holds well. I also have a Manson Supreme 7.5kg which was originally my main anchor but the Bruce has relogated it to standby for the following reasons 1.It is lighter and does the job and trips easily. 2.The Manson holds incredibly well but I have found difficulty dislodging it on occassion .It comes with a sliding shackle setup which should make it easier to break out but i have not found this particularly effective so have rigged a very ugly messy trip connection which now works but needs tyraps replacing regularly. If you can find a used Bruce original go for it may be a little more than a new clone but it is thinner and sharper and stronger and works great in the bay. Peteg
  14. Hi Alan, Glad to hear you are sorted with the new boat. I was a bit concerned that you might have been bidding against me on one I've got my eye on https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Msh4DJGI4Po http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/PATROL-BOAT-PBR-REPLICA-FISHING-BOAT-/191482487766?pt=UK_Power_Boats&hash=item2c953ee3d6 What do you reckon? I think its a bit underpowered for my use but other than that it could give the trawlers a bit of a fright See you out in the bay soon Peteg

    new 150

My boat was built before the CE regs applied in the UK and carries Nordic Boat Standard rating of Max 96kW for the outboard engine. This equates to 128.74hp or 130.52 metric hp. I have a Mariner 115HP 4 stroke EFI engine fited and think this is on the limit for the boat due to the engine weight. I did believe the engine rating may have favoured the sightly lighter 2 stroke engines of the day (1998) however looking at the current range of etec and mariner EFI 115hp engines the etec is 14kg Heavier than the newMariner (but is still 4kgs lighter than mine) whereas the mariner opti 2 stroke 115hp is a full 21 kgs lighter than mine I dont think I'll be able to uprate to a larger engine in future as next in line is either a 135hp or a 150hp in most cases and these exceed the power rating Good thing is I am still very happy with the performance of the 115hp and never find the need to use maximum revs so when the time eventually comes to replace it I'll probably go for the same.(Its 12years old and still going strong)
  24. Think I may have met him once
