  3. Hows this for a light tackle story-and perfectly true. When on Holiday in Cairns Australia I booked a days fishing in one of the fast dorys they use there. Was hoping to go offshore towards the reef but reports were that they weren't catching much so skipper decided to fish the estuary and mangrove areas.- Big Crocodiles in there Tackle was all supplied- I had never seen such lightweight tackle (for sea fishing)- very light spinning rods about 6 -7 ft in length and baitcasting reels. We were after Barramundi using tiny livebait. Guess what - No Barramundi but I did catch and Land a Hammerhead Shark Boy did that rod bend!!!! Friday 16th

Guys, I'm Looking at taking one of my rare days off on Friday and will be taking Reflections 2 out for a spot of shake down exercise for the first time since her recent antifouling and general maintenance overhaul. If anyone is interested I could accommodate 2 crew for a spot of fishing. I'm Sure we'll be able to find somewhere to drop a line She's moored at Cobbs Key Marina Poole . PM me with details if interested. Pete Warning I haven't got the heater repaired yet but the weather looks reasonable so we shouldn't need it
  5. Terry, I like it as Well -very apt for this day and age.

    Jellyfish Bad Day

Jellyfish bad day This is even funnier when you realize it's real! Next time you have a bad day at work, think of this guy. Rob is a commercial saturation diver for Global Divers in Louisiana. He performs underwater repairs on offshore drilling rigs. Below is an E-mail he sent to his sister. She then sent it to a radio station in Ft. Wayne, Indiana, who was sponsoring a worst job experience contest. Needless to say, she won. AND HE WROTE................... Hi Sue, Just another note from your bottom-dwelling brother. Last week I had a bad day at the office. I know you've been feeling down lately at work, so I thought I would share my dilemma with you to make you realize it's not so bad after all. Before I can tell you what happened to me, I first must bore you with a few technicalities of my job. As you know, my office lies at the bottom of the sea. I wear a suit to the office. It's a wetsuit. This time of year the water is quite cool. So what we do to keep warm is this: We have a diesel-powered industrial water heater. This $20,000 piece of equipment sucks the water out of the sea, heats it to a delightful temperature, then pumps it down to the diver through a garden hose which is taped to the air hose. Now this sounds like a darn good plan, and I've used it several times with no complaints. What I do, when I get to the bottom and start working, is take the hose and stuff it down the back of my wetsuit. This floods my whole suit with warm water. It's like working in a Jacuzzi. Everything was going well until all of a sudden, my bum started to itch. So, of course, I scratched it. This only made things worse. Within a few seconds my bum started to burn! I pulled the hose out from my back, but the damage was done. In agony I realized what had happened. The hot water machine had sucked up a jellyfish and pumped it into my suit. Now, since I don't have any hair on my back, the jellyfish couldn't stick to it. However, the crack of my bum was not as fortunate. When I scratched what I thought was an itch, I was actually grinding the jellyfish into the crack of my bum. I informed the dive supervisor of my dilemma over the communicator. His instructions were unclear due to the fact that he, along with five other divers, were all laughing hysterically. Needless to say I aborted the dive. I was instructed to make three agonizing in-water decompression stops totalling thirty-five minutes before I could reach the surface to begin my chamber dry decompression. When I arrived at the surface, I was wearing nothing but my brass helmet. As I climbed out of the water, the medic, with tears of laughter running down his face, handed me a tube of cream and told me to rub it on my bum as soon as I got in the chamber. The cream put the fire out, but I couldn't poo for two days because my bum was swollen shut. So, next time you're having a bad day at work, think about how much worse it would be if you had a jellyfish shoved up your arse. Now repeat to yourself, I love my job, I love my job, I love my job. Now whenever you have a bad day, ask yourself, is this a jellyfish bad day? May you NEVER have a jellyfish bad day!!!!! Pete

    Management

A man in a hot air balloon realised he was lost. He reduced altitude and spotted a man below. He descended a bit more and shouted, "Excuse me, can you help me? I promised a friend I would meet him an hour ago, but I don't know where I am." The man below replied, "You're in a hot air balloon hovering approximately 30 feet above the ground. You're between 40 and 41 degrees north latitude and between 59 and 60 degrees west longitude." "You must be a design engineer," said the balloonist. "I am," replied the man, "How did you know?" "Well," answered the balloonist, "everything you told me is technically correct, but I've no idea what to make of your information and the fact is I'm still lost. Frankly, you've not been much help at all. If anything, you've delayed my trip." The man below responded, "You must be in Project Management" "I am," replied the balloonist, "but how did you know?" "Well," said the man, "you don't know where you are or where you're going. You have risen to where you are due to a large quantity of hot air. You made a promise, which you've no idea how to keep, and you expect people beneath you to solve your problems. The fact is you are in exactly the same position you were in before we met, but now, somehow, it's my **** fault." Ring Any Bells Chaps????? Pete

Reg, Please tell me you're not going skating with the With 490? Pete
  17. As I have never towed I would opt for boat 1 wth twin outboards. I would like to know what the "accommodation" was to be used for? Are we talking about overnighting with the family, cruising or fishing? For the fishing I do I don't need or want a claustophobic V berth in the bow I prefer everything to be at deck level similar to the Finnmaster etc Tom, As you know my dream boat is out there and available for lots of cash i.e the Botnia Targa Range would cover all my requirements other than my Budget !!! One Day!! Pete

    Wanted

Thanks guys, I will follow up leads Mike, I thought the same as you - I can't imagine why the missus has taken so long to do them. As you say its only a matter of a couple of(well 4 to be exact )corner tucks and a bit of stapling, and there are only 3 of them. I probably approached it in the wrong way on one of her off days. I keep on telling her she can pick the material and the colour(as long as its blue) Women they can be so sensitive! Better send this quick before she sees it and I lose even more browny points!! Pete

    Wanted

Hi, Can anyone recommend a local Uphostery service and or Marine Fabric Supplier. I have removed Reflections 2 interior bench seats and need them recovered. They are simple rectangular structures made with foam on a plywood base and covered in a herringbone material stapled to the plywood base. A few Buttons give them the quilted effect. I'm trying to con she that shall be obeyed into attempting them but not having much luck so need cunning alternative plan. They are too unweildy to put through the Post Any Constructive Suggestions gratefully received Pete
  20. Am concerned about the grouping of recreational anglers with commercial fishermen and fishfarmers both of whom make profit from fish. Are they classifying a recreational angler as a charter skipper, if so where do we guys fit in the giant scheme of things? By we guys I mean those of us who make no commercial profit only losses from our hobby. I think the true recreational angler may tend to get a raw deal unless he states his case within the next month or so. Paul has mentioned the "Level Playing Field" It doesnt just apply to the competition from the EU countries. This could end up biased against the " recreational angling masses" who would would end up subsidising the few. It would be interesting to see which areas of the coast are considered the subject of Partial or Total Fishing Bans and would these include the banning of Angling with Rod and Line. Why is it I have an inherent distrust of any Government or Affiliated Department?????? Even When they are trying to do some good!!!
  21. Jeez What you gonna use to tow that with Fred??? I suppose you could borrow a tank transporter and at 10mph rent a lot of Hotel Rooms. Seriously nice boat , she's coming on nicely Can't say I'm mad keen on the colour though- is it too late to add a coloured gelcoat layer Pete- PS Written with Pure Jealousy

    Happy Birthday

Happy Birthday Martin!!!! Will do my best to attend my first ever PBSBAC meeting tonight and celebrate it by buying you a pint!! Pete PS I might be a little late as I've got 120 miles to cover
  23. Some Years Ago the Sales director of a company I used to work for managed a deal that got him a huge commission. He decided that he would buy himself a boat and purchased an offshore power boat of 80 mph capability from 2 huge outboards hanging off the back.(I think it was an ex Poole to Cowes Racer ) As he was a first time boat buyer with no experience it seemed a disaster was awaiting to happen. On his first ever trip out from Poole and with a Dolly Bird for company(he was a right poser and yeah I admit I was Jealous), he cleared the harbour entrance and opened the throttles. Everything was fine until at about 50 knots he hit a partially sumerged railway sleeper which took the stern of the boat off complete with both engines. Luckily the boat had enough buoyancy to keep afloat and they were rescued fairly quickly. The Stern and Engines were Salvaged and the Boat eventually repaired and instantly sold. I dont think he ever bought another. I have never forgotten his description of events and even today always keep a very sharp lookout for semi floating objects or disturbances in the water. The Only good thing that came out of the experience was that the Dolly Bird wouldn't go near him again. Pete
  24. Mike, I got my Anchor Rope from here http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Boatropes I have to admit I paid more than your looking at for potting line but the nylon anchor plait that Barry Edwards stocks is very soft ,coils beautifully and just great to handle and splice. Have a look at the site it might be of use. Couldn't fault the service Pete
