Here are the hoses I used, together with pump. The larger hose is 1200mm long, so it can be thrown over the side of the boat when discharging, the smaller diameter hose is slightly longer, to allow it to fall into the water below the gunwalls. The cables for the pump were extended to reach the battery at the back of the boat, crocodile clips added to allow easy attatchment to battery.
-
Then I used Push typre fittings for speed of assembly/dissasembly, the black hose is 1 1/2 inch dia, pushed onto a white waste water push in hose from B&Q, the smaller black hose fits tightly over the bilge pump end, and pushes over the short end of 22mm grey pipe coming out of the brass outer fitting on the barrel.
-
Then I put in the downpipe. This is a short length, (50mm) 22mm pipe fitted into the through fitting, then fitted to a 90 degree elbow. The down pipe, again 22mm, is 400mm long, ending in a stop end. Holes are drilled at 90 degrees around the down pipe, top to bottom.
-
Then put in the fittings, the top 22mm fitting is a straight through, washer on inside of barrel, the larger, again straight through, washer also inside.
-
Then I cut two holes, the smaller with a flat wood bit, the larger with a hole saw. The inlet hole, (smaller) is 22mm dia and 100mm from top of barrel, the larger, 1 1/2" is 170mm from top of barrel

Spot on Rupe, well done m8. Now you two best stay in port for a while......give the rest of us a chance!!!!! Rich

Andy...forget the 200lb mono, and go for a straight fprward steel biting leader, a short length of steel wire with a decent hook fixed to one end, and a decent swivel to the other. Then put on your 50lb ish rubbing leader, then catch the blighter!!!!!!! Tight lines. rich

They picked the wrong crew to stop , Terry, I was out there earlier in the month. Rich. PS. Well done on a few Pb's Simon, its always good to see bigguns in the net. Glad Tom was able to get you both over fish, he tends to do that well.
-
Capt Tom, do your bait fish tend to congregate against any obstacle in the tank, despite being drum shaped, any obstacle placed inside the tank will have the effect of "squaring" off internal corners, making fish find these and sit there nose first?? Rich

Welcome to our Forum Capt. Tom. Enjoy the banter. Looking forward to your input on subjects we are frantically working on to get the best from our summer livebait fishing. Rich

Boys Boys Boys.......for goodness sakes leave some out there till I get back from Florida!!!! Absolutely cracking result, good team effort, and another Pb, with another fish well over the 100% Al, are you measuring these fish before release?? It would be intersting what the table says a fish that weighs in at 13lb converts to. Well done guys, good mornings work. Rich

This was the subject of a Time Team dig, and despite being a bit of an "Anoraks" programme, being of local interest, I watched it, and learned a fair bit about the history of the Harbour. Basically, any boil manifesting itself on the sea surface, is a result of tide influence over strata beneathe the surface, either man made or natural, so its always worth investigation with a livebait. The Councils are their own worst enemies on this subject, they are frightened of a rigid stance. The easiest way to get rid of these, is to ask them to pay the meter, give them ten minutes, then inform them that the ticket inspector is on his way. Then the council asks the constabulary for back up to prevent a breach of the peace.......hey presto, tickets issued, or breach of peace ensues, either way, these persons will not have an address which is suitable for service of summons, which means a section 25 PACE arrest, next available court, fine or imprisonment. All in all, probably an hours work for a handfull of men, and not a weeks worth of clearing up their mess, hours spent taking crime reports for all the gear they have liberated, and no grannies have even agreed for their driveways to be tarmacadamed.......for

No Jack, three Bass please, and I'd like a scale sample from the third, just to keep stats correct. Rich PS.................We may include Jacks readings in the returns for 2008........we heard he takes a season to catch a Bass

Seeing as we pay to park there.........we should phone the council immediately, as they will, without a shadow of doubt be ready to remove items from cars, like wheels etc from 4x4's. A very good way to combat these people, I found from my days as Plod, is to get on to the County Council, Travellers Taching Advisor, telling them that there are travellers at such and such location, with x number of children of school age, who are not in school. By Law, they are required to educate their offspring.......officially, not in the ways of the Romany , and the slightest hint of an order to put these kids in school, will result in them vacating the car park immediately. This system worked very very quickly for me in Hampshire, alas I dont have a conatct number for them any more Hope this helps............these buggers will steal the horrors from your nightmares, so be warned!!!!!!!!!!! I know of other clubs who have a southerly boundary, which greatly influences club records for certain species, like Turbot and Brill, also for our cod comp etc, it would give all boats an equal stab at getting to specific Cod grounds...........not that I catch any of those chaps anyway!!!!!! Rich
-
Another thing that may influence Club Comps and Catches, is to consider a distance from Poole radius. If we have easterly and westerly boundaries, why not have a southerly boundary too? Tis will put the cat amongst the pigeons!!!! This way, the small boats who can't fish more southerly lattitudes have equal chance. Answers on a postcard please. Rich

Thanks for a great day out Tom, really enjoyed it, dodging the vommit, tying rigs, dodging more vomm, changing reels, dodging even more............ etc etc. I'm glad we diverted to the drift, well pleased for Sam with his first Bass from that area. Its always good to catch a target species in a new area. After slightly bumpy steam to our chosen mark, terrific to see Charlies rod buckle under the strain of decent fish, and after changing reels for him, to get a better speed of retrieve, good to see him into fish on his first wrecking trip. To be honest, we didnt lose that much tackle for the amount of drifts and number of rods on board. To see Sams face when he nabbed his first cod for aaaaaaaages was also good, but I'd have given a few quid to see Dads face when he recieved the text from Tom!!!!!! Was nice to catch Bass over a "New" mark, and to see a good dispersement of fish sizes, its just a shame that the Pollack can't go back, like the Bass. More samples taken for the club Bass sampling project, looks as if we are going to be busy this winter T, and a couple of fillets for tea tonight, even good to see a shock micro Red Gurnard, almost the size of the lure it took!!!!! Thanks for a good day Tom, and good company Sam and Charlie. Rich

One thing I did notice about Toms "TecTank", was the amount of froth kicked up by the diffuser, and this one was set to its lowest setting. From a personal point of view, they actually look very similar to my Honey Ripening Tanks that I use when the crop is extracted from my hives!!! Once we had popped in a few livies, there didnt seem much room for the comfort of the fish inside, but seeing the size of livebait used in the states in general on inshore or intercoastal trips, the size of Tek Tank Tom has, is designed for their minnows, pinfish and shrimps. I would imaging it keeps them alive all day. (I actually nip down to the local 24hr pharmacy and buy one of those collapsable netting laundry bags, tie a length of chord on it, and hang that off the Dock in Florida, that keeps my shrimps alive for at least a day, and only costs me a solitary ten buck note!!! I also imagine that there is no real call for any form of current to be created inside the tank, as baitfish generally come from inshore waters where there is very little tide, but over here, its a very different story. Just my thoughts, Rich

Factory refurbished Paul.......doesnt take to 1lb weights too well. Rich

I'm really impressed by the attidude shown by these guys........committed is a word that best sums Al and Rupe up. Cracking result over the two days, well done. Are you interested in joining in on the Bass sampling survey that some club members are doing guys........taking a scale sample from every third bass taken for stastical analysis by wedger and myself, results will be forwarded to cefas for inclusion the their data on bass growth across the entire British Isles, as requested by our minister for fisheries. Quick and simple to undertake, all that is needed are a set of forceps, a tape measure pencil and paper, we will do the rest. No marks, just either East or West south coast is required, and they dont have to be weighed, as a full length weight chart is available. Please give it a thought lads. Rich

Andy Jimbob, yes Poole harbour, not a squillion miles from the usual drift for micro wrasse, pollock and pout, with the occasional schoolie thrown in. Rich..........Oh, andy, you have a PM chap.
