Paul, when I checked, the drift was about 1.5 knts, we took all the flatfish early in the day, although it didnt seem to get really fast drifting the edge of the banks. I guess the magic 2knts must have been reached for the Bass to feed, but we didnt have the split screen on the chart so we could see a bigger section of the banks more clearly. Just a shame it doesnt show the footy! Rich

Mike, I would advise against using beach sand, as it has a high salt content, and doesnt lend itself to construction very well.........our kennel runs in the Falklands were laid on a base of concrete made with sand from the beaches, as they didnt have sufficient quantity of building sand down there, and it washed away during kennel cleaning!!! Just a thought. Rich

With plenty of Cuttle grabbing mackeral strips intended for the Flatties, I decided to cut down bait and hook size to bag a few of these. With the tide picking up every drift, the likelihood of a Turbot or Brill grew more remote, as my double hit of Bass on the single drift showed, show the cuttle were targetted. The bites were very similar to bream, and the best way I found of getting them in, was a slow steady retrieve. If they dropped off the bait on or just sub surface, the bait was droppped near to the cruising cuttle, and their huge eyes soon spotted the bait, which was almost immediately grabbed. One tip..........dont put your cuttle in the fish box along with your Turbot, , PJ, takes longer to clean!!!! Will deep fry them tonight using Kams post on the recipes page, hope BB enjoyed his for supper. Plenty of sport aboard the boat, shame I dropped the monster of all Garfish at the side of the boat, made my PB of 2lb 4oz look a mere worm!!!! All fish returned including PJ's smaller Turbot, Marks Brill, 2 Bass, Gurnard, Scad, mackeral et al. All in all, a good trail, despite the No Show of the Burnham Boys. As soon as the squid hit the harbour, I'm out for them!!! Might try another trip sometime this week to bag a few cuttles for the Cod season. Any takers?? Rich

Tha Charters that ventured out were fishing the Lure Day of the YYS International event, and drifting the Hood would have produced them best assortment of fish. Haven't heard from BB what he caught or how he did. Rich

Thats more than Nipper FGS!!!

It would have been a new club club record, and probably earned the captor a Gold NFSA award, not to mention all the bells and whistles that go with nice pics for the glosies. Rich

Four foot gar!!! I had one three foot long and it weighed in at 2lb 4ozs!!! A four footer would be nearly 3lbs or more. Rich

Guys, I will try and get a load of eels, but can't promise. Martin and Alun have pm'd me, and they have first shout if we have spare. If the tide run exceeds three knts this weekend, use stormies, they work very well in this speed of tide. We took plenty of bass and cod last week in smaller tides, so it is possible. Stomy sandeels, the larger ones, not minis, will also work down there. You can also drift the bank, and collect Launce on mini rigs, but cut them down to two or three hooks, and use a silver attractor on the bottom as weight, that will give you plenty of launce fairly hooked in the mouth, not belly hooked. Sorry I cant be more helpfull on the eel front. Rich

Mark and I have the 3g card, this gives additional info such as light flasshes etc from cardinals, just run the cursor over the obeject and info is displayed. It can also flag up vessels over a certain tonnage, allowing you to determine speed distance and bearing, so you can run a course, to see if they are coming your way, usefull farther out in low vis. Mark and I will have a tank of eels. The reefs also hold bullies, pollack, and smaller rays. Speciman Gars are being taken also. Will report back again tonight, after consulting BB, currently competing in the YYS Rich

Listening to the Fusheries guys that boarded Tiger Lilly last trip, and reading the posts and other info placed on this thread, I am pleased that this has been taken seriously by forum readers. I was amazed at some responses put to Martin and I when we talked quite openly and frankly to the boarding party, it seemed to me that they had been told to get out amoungst the charters, and basically "Fly the Flag". I think they took it it on board that we (PBSBAC members) are a fair spread of visiting anglers from the South Coast, unlike other anglers from farther up the country who seem to want their skippers to get them over quantity, not quality fish, so it makes their trip worthwhile. As long as Skippers continue to do this, and these skippers are a minority, not a majority, this practice will continue, and the local skippers will feel aggrieved at others taking fish from their waters, to either sell or raffle off to help the proceeds towards the cost of the trip, allowing them o return to the CI's month after month during the season. To have my name placed amoungst these folk is almost slanderous, and I feel annoyed that I am placed in the same pot. I have visited the Islands to sample some of their fantastic fishing, which inst as easy as it may seem on some days, three years consecutively, and have returned many fish, I have yet to come home with a Bass, I have brought home one Cod, two ling, six turbot, and two Brill, on all three trips combined. I do not put myself amoungst anglers who simply fish to fill thier freezer. Pollack and ling are taken purely as they cant be returned due to blown swimbladders, if a method can be used to ensure they survive is returned, I would undertake this. Perhaps a more vociverous stance towards the names that come up time and time again would make these indiduals think twice before booking parties that perhaps might not be fishing for themselves. Who needs to land such a huge amount of fish for personal consumption on a daily basis anyway? That amount should possibly be looked at. If individuals are targetted by the authorities together, not working alone, then investigations are far wider, the investigating agencies have a huge amount of combined powers, including arrest and seizure, and folk will think twice before putting to sea to rape a superb fishing ground. With this in mind, and the bad feeling that has ensued from this, I doubt I will be back over there for a while, and would appologize to the superb hosts who have put us up for three years, but I am not preparred to be tarred with this brush. Charlie, UV pens should be avaiable from the local crime prevention oficer.

Firstly, Mike, I'm really pleased that you all caught your target species today, whether is was aided by my advice or not, and to see George with his Spotted Ray, its a cracking fish, well done. Mark B and I fished our first comp on Nipper, not really a red letter day, only one ray n board, to me, a small eyed of just under five pounds. we had scad mackeral, pout, poor cod, Garfish, LSD, Bass, Bream, and the ray, so a few species, most on feathers!! Maybe out for a Stinger tomorrow evening. Rich

PJ, this may sound a waste of time, but bear with me on this one. If you feel that the constabulary have not done quite what you would have expected them to do, take time out to record who has done what in the investigation to trace offenders. If you can think of something that they havent done, write a letter of complaint to the Chief Constable, not the oik who is scratching his buttocks in the queue at Burger King. Tell the cheif exactly how you are feeling, but more importantly, cc the letter to the Chair of the Local Police Authority. As soon as you do this, the wheels of motion amazingly become well greased and things start to happen. The Constabulary are answerable to the LPA, and they have to follow complaints up. By writing the letter, you will be helping the wound heal a tad quicker. If it helps, I know the story from both sides of the fence, both as plod, and the aggrieved in a

Duncan, big big undulates are still being taken, and the word is that blondes are bigger than average this year.......ooooer missus, so perhaps a bank will be best. I think we are trying for stingers, then nipping back behind the Island for a blonde or three. Rich

These unscrpulous characters will steal the horrors from your nightmares. Thieves are becoming more and more high tech in their eforts to take your property. The difficult part is catching them, the even more dificult part is the recovery of stolen property, and then the most difficult part of the investigation is coupling up property to a burglary/theft and its lawfull owner. You only have to have a gleg at Bumblebee auctions on the web to see exactly what is being stolen, recovered stored for three months, then flogged without even a chance of finding an owner. Take it from me, Police Property stores are full to the gunwalls, because folk will not mark, photograph serial numbers on kit, or such like. It makes an inverstigation so much easier if an officer has a picture to work with. Most police officers couldnt tell you a warrior from Arvour, an etec from a bigfoot. Bear this in mind, photgraph your property, record serial numbers, remove electronics where possible, and make it difficult to let them in. Ask a simple qustion. Could I steal this?? If the answer is yes, then the thief, who is mostly an accomplished individual, will have no problems whatsoever. Pehaps a service that the club could offer its members, is a catalogue of boats, by picture, outboards by picture and serial number, and electronics by picture and serial number. Electronics can be couvertly marked with post codes written in UV ink, in more than place on each item of kit. For gods sakes.....lets make it difficult for them to target PBSBAC members. Rich

What is stopping you launching early o clock before the cock crows, Kam?? As long as the comp is fished over the set period, then no rules are broken? Rich

Wot.......no Stingers?
