  1. Adam...what rigs are used for herring?? Ive never fished for them! Good to see BW back in the oggin....I'll see you Saturday morning Rich
  2. Martin, what style moulds have we in the club?? I have a couple of cone moulds, and two sizes of Bopedo boat lead moulds, a gemini breakaway mould, with all the trimmings, for uptiding, and a pear type for wrecking. If we get a list of available moulds, I am prepared to spend a day cooking lead in my furnace, it takes about 20 kilos of lead, so makes a squillion leads an hour. All I will need is the base lead, and wires. If people want grippers, they should supply the wires too. I may as well heat for the club as heat for myself, it works out as gas hungry. Rich
  3. No worries Billy, I have forms printed out, also a smaller laminated version, keen or what??? By the way, I've sourced some great holographic sequins for rigs......absolutely brilliant, I've grabbed you some, will bung em in post. hey are five times more reflective than the usual crap. Regards, Rich PS What moby are you on now?? Tried yours...its not connected...pay yer bill u muppet ;0))
  4. Martin, as you know, Garmin (Europe) was a no, I've been to Poindestres, Gerry's of Morecombe, Souhthend Angling centre, who are all a no..........racking my brains now who to approach next. Rich
  5. Pete..I'll take one too please Ta Rich
  6. James, i used mini rigs for the last hour or so of our trip out on sunday.....they were size 6 hooks, with silver and pink streamer on them, and a small red or green bead. I was catching pout and poor cod, when others were not connecting.....also, takw some flashy pirks with you to use as weightssfor the base of the string.........they really improve the take ratio, I was using eith Yan lures, or the dexter wedges......and both worked well, the yan ones fish better though. Also, get some of those minature redgill type eels, and fish em on short snoods, with an attarcter above them, they worked brill for me If there are some Gars still about, a white or silver floating bead on the business end is an absolute killer, so maybe try that. AND dont go out without any storm sandeels.........they are absolutely mustard...thats what i caught my 1lb 8oz gar on.......108% specimen mate!!! Ive got soem stuff made up, I have to go over to Mark B's to collect a machine ive lent him, I'll drop em off beforehand ok??? Good hunting........Rich PS...............i wanna trip when u win the motah!!!! Tight lines chap
  7. Dave, twp piece suits cant have floatation in the legs, in case u go in when not wearing the jacket, one piece gnerally have floatation in teh legs too. if possible try one in your local swimming pool if you can. If you wear added layers under yer trooosers, it matters not about the extra warmth floatation padding gives, and i personnaly find them comfyer to wear. Have you ever tried climbing back into a boat wearing an inflated lifejacket, or a floatation suit?? Its quite hard. As far as the poll goes, I have now purchased my own life jacket, and after the escapades of three weeks since, despite being a Bronze medallion lifesaver, I will wear it as from now. You just never know. Rich
  8. Are the herring any size lads?? We were discussing them on our way back in on Sunday....a few of those would have boosted the catch!! All I manged were a few Doggies, some Makeral, a Scad, a Small eyed, and loadsa pout and poor cod, ok for the species comps....but rubbish for the table!!!! Still, it was agreat day out, and I thouroughly enjoyed it. Rich
  9. James....Billyboy gave me a shed load of rigs for the YYS comp, all stuf that caught on the day. Dont be too afraid to scale right down in hook size. Also, break down some feather rigs, of different types and sizes, into two hook traces....they will catch you all sorts on the drop, and on the bottom, in one day on the YYs i managed 11 species, so if I can do it....bloody sure you can!!! I'll have a looky in the tackle box, and see if theres any of the stuff BB gave me, and bring it over to you. Just try everything out........and beat the buggers!!! Rich
  10. Hiya Billy, love to mate, give me the dates, and I'll ensure availability. At least Ive and idea what to expect this time!!! We've had a few trips blown off, so would enjoy some more sport. I'll call you on monday, and discuss things. Cheers matey, Rich
  11. Intersting read dave. Charlie, as far as EN or the EA are concrened, I really dont know where thyere coming from. They spent almost a hundred tyhousand pounds renewing part of the fishery i look after, however, the bank was on rebuilt using earth and hazel weave. Five years on, all the banks are erroding back down, the stream gravel needs jetwashing to rid it of spoil for the spawning salmon, which are already in the river system, the banks collapse at the slightest weight, and it all ends up down with you guys in the Harbour. I'm afraid with the way they think at present, the harbour will need dredging on a fairly regular basis, as tonnes and tonnes of soil gets washed away at each flood. What can we do??? Rich
  12. Jiimbob, we need to make a date for clearing pike on the river up in Salisbury, customer was askingme when i can do it. Give me a bell. Rich
  13. Hiya Billy, good to see u logging on!!! Report made good reading, thanks, when are we going to get out and have a crack at these wrasse??? You have my number, give us a call chap Regards,Rich
  14. Alan, a few of the guys are out on a private charter on sunday, so the usual guys for crew are unavailable...............you could try jimbob???? Rich
  15. Adam....sorry chap, no can do....with the weather this week, I'm behind on the river, sorry Rich
  16. Guys, thanks for the input........it appears that the magnetic variation system is the same for both land and sea. As an accomplished naviagtor on land, I am now burrying my head in books with a view to attaining similar qualifacations at sea, which will only help me when I eventually seize the opportunity to purchase my own vessel, which hopefully will not be too long..........just glad Debs doesnt log on to this forum!!She'll kill me! Rich
  17. Guys, reading through this thread, may I ask a question?? Is there a magnetic variation on charts, as there is on OS maps?? If yes, how much do you allow for vairiation when plotting to your systems on board? Sorry if its been covered before. Rich
  18. Laffin.................just glad that you got out charlie, shame about that ounce!! Rich
  19. Mikey....hes done it......11squid a bolt is ludricous!!! So he made do with whitworths I think...ta anyway chap Rich
  20. Charlie...............I think our trip is orf, as Adam has about twenty tonnes of Scalps in front of BW, so unless I nip over and bring a barrow........theres no chance of a trip out today. Will bell Adam after brekkie, and see if we can squeeze something out. Rich Ps, If youre still going out after work, and the boys arent up for the trip out, If you want crew, I'm well uo for an evening sesh...............getting withdrawl!!!!!!!
  21. Guys....................after a visit to the outboard shop in Christchurch yesterday, all was revealed! Appaerently a pin holds all the gubbins in place, and the shaft needs to be turned slightly to allow the mechanics to slide.......Done. However.......replacement bolts to hold the Power head to the shaft housing are eleven quid each!! Can you believe it?!!!! All split and sorted, new gaskets purchased, just a case of rebuilding now. Thanks for the help Mikey and Adam. Rich........Rich's Dad really Oh and lads.............see despite the viscious rumours......I do have a Dad
  22. Hiya Grant.............take some posts with a pinch of salt,.........but immerse yourself and enjoy Rich
  23. Adam, what is that site you suggested?? When I locate it, I'll try and post there. Mikey..........apart from the DUNDUNDARRRRR! everything else seems straightforward. Dad is from an industrial mechanical background, so his knowledge is pretty damn good of most aspects, unlike mine!!! We just weren't sure about the gasket issue, the actual donkey is fine, she is free and fairly smooth, its the ancilary parts of the shaft that need splitting and inspecting. All the electrics are in GWO, its just the case of replacing the gubbins at the top of the shaft, its a small transfer gadget that links onto a hooked section of 5mm ish rod, I'll look in the manual, and see what the thing does. Dad is taking the engine over to France this week, they are on holls with family out there, so I expect he will log on and check the forum in due course, so please keep writing folks!!! See you thuis evening at the meeting...... Ta muchly, Rich
  24. Guys, Dad is rebuilding/overhauling his outboard. He has an old Johnson Sea Horse CD-CDL i think. It has been stood for ages......and I mean ages, so it needs a complete top to toe. He is having problems splitting the three sections of the shaft housing.....all studs are out, but she still wont split. Any suggestions.....Mikey, your era perhaps? Also, when replacing sections, will instant gasket do, or do you guys reccomend genuine parts? I expect he will log into the site to view your remarks, so all views and suggestions/hints are welcome. Thanks guys............ Rich
  25. Kam, all of my cod caught on bait, have fallen to squid. I use about six of them, on a pennel rig. That accounts for mine. I have had success on lures over wrecks in the summer months, but the winter bait caught fish have always been larger fish. One train of thought on cod, is to empty out the contents of the squid, and fill it with lugworm, then place onto the rig. Next you pierce it with a baiting needle to allow the juices to flow out. Ive never tried this method, but it appears in sea fishing articles on the appearance of winter cod!! I think it would work out expensive though!!! Regards, Rich
