I'll have a look as soon as weather allows us to get out..... not this coming week.
I may squeeze a few hours in the morning tomorrow ... but will be staying well inside the harbour.
Just had a message from Adam, who asked me to post up here......
COMP IS ON FOR SUNDAY.
Weigh in at BAITER : 4.00 pm
I'll bring the hamper......... who's got the scales ??
Weather looking pretty grotty for Sunday.......
perhaps Allan will have time to recover [ get well soon!!].... and Adam and a few others could join in if it's postponed ??
Another week in prospect when the forecasters barcharts lokk as colourful as a tube of Smarties !!
if you will the fact that by simply handling a fish you are condemning it to an almost certain death as you will have damaged its mucus membrane
........can't be true..........or tagged fish would never get caught again !!
1. Martin- AWOL + none member
2. Tony + TBC with extensive knowledge of harbour and a good back( with heater)
3. Alun Jones and
4. Paul Frey ....on Gastronaught
Seems to be two threads running here.
Will someone merge them ??
With the weather looking a bit more promising for next weekend, it looks like our Flounder Comp should go ahead on due date......... and I'll be putting the hamper together this week.
As above....... a bit of confusion re format to get clear.
Previously, we've had the weigh-in at Baiter at about 4.00 - 4.30... giving us most of the [very] short day for fishing
On the kayak thread, they are talking about a couple of hours fishing and weigh-in at 2
How does that fit in with our comp.?
I don't mind if we meet at Baiter or Lake pier......but not that early. I'll be coming from Christchurch..........so not there before 4.
Alun.
Gastro will also be out..........but after a different target.
I reckon it will be a bit bumpy over at the Car Park .... and the trip there and back.
I expect we will compare experience on the slip !
Alun.
Similar tale to others for us on Joint Venture......
...a bumpy trip over to the Island; no fog and the mist soon dispersed.
Lots and lots of boats already there.... our mark turned out to be close to Alfresco and Dawn Raider with Yelo in waving distance.
Expecting a stream of bites from the start, I'd brought lots of extra squid but the baits kept coming back almost untouched !! No dogs, no pout just the odd whelk on our baits [ which I kept.... and made a starter with as the count went into double figures over the next few hours !!]
With the change of the tide, a freshening SE at a good Force 4, pushed us beam on .....with a rocking \ rolling workout and no bites, we had to make move....... off to my inshore mark for a last hour fishing the flood.
As with the last time I was out on JV, this move paid off.... a bit. One cod, this time to Ian..... a plump 10 lber
Think I'll be giving the Car Park a miss now.
Alun.
