Just a quick post whilst thawing out with a cuppa.........
I can see why Adam's not a fan of flounder fishing! ; and why like several others took off out to sea in pursuit of the 'flounders' with olive and gold spots on them!!
Today was a day of long periods of inactivity, punctuated by two short spells of action! On the plus-side, the weather was beautiful [if a bit chilly], the scenery spectacular and very little fuel used!!
Launching in twilight at 7.45, required a deeper immersion of the trailer ,as Gastro was frozen to it!!. The sun was coming up and the harbour was flat, so Paul and I took off a short distance down the harbour in search of a better size fish and stopped close to where last year's winner came from. An hour of inactivity, then two bites and two fish in 10 mins!!........but both small ones.
Two more hours of inactivity [ despite some subtle repositioning] and some action needed...... also I didn't like the choppiness caused by a bit more wind. So up into the shelter of Holes Bay [ like a different world.....all flat calm again!]
..........and the pattern repeats.......90 mins of nothing, then two fish in 10 mins!!, then nothing again!! But this time the fish are much better.....and the bigger one comes into the net at 3 lbs 6 oz ; after a bit of a scrap!! ......... and proves enough to win the day!!
A pleasant change !! Thanks Paul for the good company and lively banter [ and as Rich would say... acting as decoy!!]
Thanks to the club for the hamper of goodies and best wishes to everyone for a Happy Christmas and fish filled New Year [ I know mine will be!!]
Alun.
