  1. Happy Birthday Martin........ a nice sunny day for it.......but the fishing's not so good! [having just come in from a poor session!!] Cheers, Alun.
  2. My brother-in-law is relocating and about to sell the dinghy he keeps with his barge up on the Ouse system in Huntingdon. I recommended he posts it on Boats and outboards but said I'd put it up here and see if anyone is interested. I've been on it once......it is a spacious little dinghy with a great 9 hp Honda 4-stroke on the back. "... A 15ft fiber glass pleasure- fishing boat hand built by Plymouth > boat builder.>> Fully renovated inside and out cedar bench seats comes with> 9hp Honda Elec start out board excellent condition. fuel tank > hoses. heavy duty battery . plus water proof protective case. oars, > 2x self inflating life jackets. trailer spare wheel, removable > wheel arches. winter cover tie downs. very stable easy to operate > very responsive great fun. former owner used it for fishing.> Selling due to relocation away from water at present used for > exploring the River Ouse we live on a barge. can provide more pic's!>>
  3. Adding the results from Imagine......... 1) Paul Frey - 10 lb 6 oz 2)Ian Jones - Cod 10lb 3) Paul Dore - Cod 8lb 8oz 4) Alun Jones - 5 lb 7 oz. I hear Rob. Francis did a bit better !! .......Well done Rob.!! ....and Court Jester. Alun.
  4. Had a rather unproductive day in the harbour today! Just two bites ........ and both fish were spawned out flounders.... all thin and wasted... so went back [luckily only lightly hooked ]. Last year my best session was Feb 5th.......then it quickly died! Have they gone early this year?? Needing more evidence, I'll try again next week !! Alun.

    Monday

My turn to act as 'decoy' yesterday.......as almost every drop produced a dogfish on my side of the boat.... and allowed the other two to catch a few table fish!! It was great to have a calm day [for a change].......and the gloom didn't feel at all cold. Thanks Paul for the trip out; as you say..........recent reports make plans for next Sun's comp a tricky call!! At least the weather is looking to be OK [from this far away!] Alun.
  6. Adam had the prop off ......... and cleaned out........in the time it took me to get the trolleys back to the boat!! He untangled and retrieved quite a handful! All this started from a loose clip on the Alderney Ring's buoy! ....I 'm sure that will be sorted by the next trip!
  7. I felt disappointed more Adam, as he doesn't get out as much !! .... and I'd falsely teased him with the propect of a 'flat calm day' !!! [ hopeless forecasts !! ] Nevertheless, it's always good to get out........and the company and chat is enjoyable even when the fishing is so slow! Conditions seemed fairly good and the tide was no prob. My main thought was the big drop in water temp over the past week might have been the factor [??] . Fortunately, it doesn't seem to bother the flounders........so guess what I'll be next week? Thanks again for the trip Adam........ happy to go whenever you fancy! Alun.
  8. Happy Birthday Peter !! If the number at the bottom of the forum page is correct, it is a good age to change direction ........and do more fishing !! Have a good day, Alun.
  9. Forecasts look a bit confused [today wasn't very accurate!!.... much fresher and SE than the call] Tomorrow and Weds looking WINDY from S.......then it swings back N and Thurs & Fri could be calm [???] .......I might be out with Adam if Shaftesbury melts a bit!! Alun.
  10. Looks like some relief from the freeze !! Above zero today by a couple of degrees , plus a bit of breeze to blow the colder air off the ice. Hopefully the ice at Mudeford slip will be less and softer tomorrow......so, with the forecast light winds I've intending to get out . Alun.
  11. Happy Birthday Gordon ! ............ I expect you are too busy to think about getting out like some of us more leisured members!!. Cheers, Alun.
  12. Well done Paul, Martin, Tom and others who did well yesterday. Seems like you were rewrded for venturing further out and coping with the big tide. Things were very slow for those of us who stayed closer inshore. Next weekend will be an interesting call if the current forecast holds ..... with a brisk, cold Northerly blowing. Alun.
  13. There's always tomorrow ?? .......... a Bank Hol.
  14. Birthday greetings from me too !! Must be tough to get all your pressies within a couple of days?? Have a good day, Alun.
  15. HO......HO........HO !!! Will this comp get fished?? Sensible to postpone , again, today .......... I'll be trying tomorrow! Alun.
  16. Just been in touch with Adam......... who is out at the Races!!...so not up to speed with forecasts etc. He said......... if Poole Angling is going ahead with their comp, we'll run ours !! Last I heard Andy said it was ON .... so I'm sorting out my gear now. See some of you tomorrow, Alun.
  17. Andy at P S A C is looking for the comp to go as planned. As this stays............ Craig and I will be out on Abode fishing both. Alun.
  18. Cheers Paul, I'll investigate.
  19. Are we still on for tomorrow? If so , I'm in...... with Craig W. .......... on Abode 11. Alun.
  20. I also popped out ........ a bit later, but still in the rain !! swells gone but a bit of an eaterly blowing. Discovered my floatation suit is no longer waterproof [wet bottom !] !! so I'll be looking in Jan sales as I can't wait until next Christmas!! Will Sunday still be on if the wind gets up a bit , as forecast??? Alun.
  21. I'm assuming it won't affect my flounder fishing right down at the bottom, which I think is classed as the sea even though the water doesn't have any salt in it at this time of year\ river flow. Alun.
  22. Forecasts for Sunday are all over the place !! If it's on......... I have to rearrange my plans...... and now am available to crew or be crewed !! Alun.
  23. Just a quick post whilst thawing out with a cuppa......... I can see why Adam's not a fan of flounder fishing! ; and why like several others took off out to sea in pursuit of the 'flounders' with olive and gold spots on them!! Today was a day of long periods of inactivity, punctuated by two short spells of action! On the plus-side, the weather was beautiful [if a bit chilly], the scenery spectacular and very little fuel used!! Launching in twilight at 7.45, required a deeper immersion of the trailer ,as Gastro was frozen to it!!. The sun was coming up and the harbour was flat, so Paul and I took off a short distance down the harbour in search of a better size fish and stopped close to where last year's winner came from. An hour of inactivity, then two bites and two fish in 10 mins!!........but both small ones. Two more hours of inactivity [ despite some subtle repositioning] and some action needed...... also I didn't like the choppiness caused by a bit more wind. So up into the shelter of Holes Bay [ like a different world.....all flat calm again!] ..........and the pattern repeats.......90 mins of nothing, then two fish in 10 mins!!, then nothing again!! But this time the fish are much better.....and the bigger one comes into the net at 3 lbs 6 oz ; after a bit of a scrap!! ......... and proves enough to win the day!! A pleasant change !! Thanks Paul for the good company and lively banter [ and as Rich would say... acting as decoy!!] Thanks to the club for the hamper of goodies and best wishes to everyone for a Happy Christmas and fish filled New Year [ I know mine will be!!] Alun.
  24. OH DEAR !!! Just looked at forecasts that go to next Sunday !! I hope they are wrong ! This coming week looks great for getting out...... then next Sunday , up comes big wind from South!! Not another postponement Alun.
  25. I'll be there....... not sure yet as to arrangements \ boat etc.......tba. Alun.
