Well done Charlie and Rob.......... looks my training paid off for you !! Sorry I missed the day ........ here in LA surrounded by [huge ] boats but not sussed any fishing out yet. The pics have started me missing the bassing..........but here in sunny California there are plenty of distractions !! Hoping there will still be a some about when I'm back in a few weeks time ?? Just off for a few weeks on the west coast........... will post if anything of fishy interest comes along. I expect I'll drift into a few tackle shops ......... just to compare !!!! Those 'drops' are almost always little fish.... with appetites bigger than their mouths .....or instances where the hook gets turned into the bait.

Boys and their toys!!! Looks like an annoying Jetski with a lid to me !! Will they catch on in our murkier water ??? .... perhaps it's warmer inside one of these than a ride on !! ?? Not for me !! Alun.

For us with sensitive ears.........it is a time to hide and put head under cushions !! .......or get as far out to sea as poss!! ........not my cup of tea !! Alun.

It was a very nice day !! I don't normally like inshore fishing on a Sunday [now that I can pick and choose!!] as it's often too busy with traffic........BUT... today had a nice little window and am busy tomorrow ........ also allowed me to take out Jim [aka Small Fry], who hardly ever seems to get out. We went mid morning [ 6.30 ish !!], catching the last part of the flood. Mackerel were in abundance.......but my plan was to use them to catch something smaller for bass bait and have a go for triggers at the same time..... Plan A didn't quite work........ the bait fish were not about, the triggers [??....no sign yet !!??] but we did get Jim into a nice bass..... that put a big smile on his face and a good start to the day!!. I dropped one and it went quiet.....so we went for some drifts at the start of the ebb..........and it was good sport...... with 2 or 3 bass on each drift. Most were small ones [ 13 - 16 ins] and went back, but there were a few better ones, with a 5 lber to me that 'pipped' Jim's one from earlier. Having run out of livebaits now , and only an hour or so before we needed to get in , we went back to Plan A ....... where things were a bit livelier.... another bass for me plus a meal- sized bream....... and the tiddlers we wanted earlier !! 2 o'clock and a procession of boats fighting the Run back into the harbour. Slip not too busy and home for tea in the garden....much hotter than on the water !! Bass recipes again this week !! Alun

Gastro will be out too........just for the morning [ LW at 4, so back in by 2]. ....see if we can find a bass for Jim ???? Alun.

I had been out a little while before Rob showed up !! It was breezier early on and gradually eased a bit during the later morning and was pretty flat by early pm, when I had to go !! [ usually it's the other way about !!] As Rob said, finding the small bait-size fish wasn't easy, but the few I had produced several dropped runs [ from small fish I think in my case....but didn't see them]. Eventually managed to contact two....... but smallish fish. Recent observations [and ear to the ground detection] indicates that at the mo, in my neck of the woods, there seems to be the odd big fish about, but most are small and not in any numbers ..yet !! Certainly better sport further afield !! Alun.

If anyone is free at short notice, there is a possibility of a seat on JV, going out to the Rips tomorrow .... and see if those cod are catchable on the bigger tide ! Post or pm me. Looking to go about 8 or just before...... back with the flooding tide sometime after 5.30. Alun.

Kayakers........have a talk with Mark at Alderney Angling....... he has got into it recently and was raving about it and the possibilites around the island. A lot is down to local knowledge of the tides to be able to use the flows and slack water.

Great report Charlie......it will certainly make many in the club keen to come on the next trip. You give an excellent account of the things, other than the fishing, that make the trip so enjoyable......... I, for one, will be looking forward to June 18 and getting twitchy with weather forecasts as soon as it's in range !! Brilliant !!

We had Gurnard tonight .......... for a change !! Cod or Turbo tomorrow !! ??
