  1. Happy birthday Jim I would guess it says up to 50ah for a reason ATB Martin
  2. Oli assuming AWOL has her new engine up and running we will be fishing for the flatties. You would be more than welcome to tag along with us. Regards cruising speed we will be traveling around twenty knots (weather permitting) but would be in constant communication with anyone in the group so you should never feel alone. We usually hop over trying some lumps of steel on the way. This would give you ample time to keep up. There are several areas of banks around the island with "South Banks" "The Schole bank" and "The Casquets" being the main ones. Can I suggest prior to going over you look at your charts and familiarise yourself with the area fully. Although for the most part we will be in company you do need to prepare. I would assume you have chart plotter and studying your charts of the area with the plotter will soon get you up to speed. I have been over on my own boat two years running and every time prior to leaving I check my chart and re-familiarise myself with the area. This is not just a fishing trip, it is an adventure with an excellent social element thrown in. Well worth the effort spent preparing. As an aside I would suggest you don't want any more crew on the boat. You will be drift fishing for the most part and it can get messy with lots of lines out even for an experienced crew on a small boat.
  3. NNnnooo not another club boat engine going tits up I know exactly how you will be feeling Tom, hope yours isn't as expensive as mine Martin
  4. Thats a bummer Duncan. After our recent phone call I thought you were sorted. You are sure to find company when ready to go over. All the best with your treatment. Martin
  5. By far the best way to learn is to take someone out who is experienced to show you how it's all done. It's quicker easier and safer to learn with an experienced crew If you want a run out just to learn I will happily come out with you Martin
  6. Welcome to PBSBAc Seaspark I have updated your forum status to that of club member Martin

    Hello All

Welcome Oli & Nick Jump in with both feet and enjoy your membership Martin
  9. Deposit paid and a Steyr 250hp ordered today. 2 weeks delivery is tight for the Alderney trip but hopefully it will be in and working in time to have a shake down cruise prior to our Alderney trip Martin
  10. Further update: 3 injectors were replaced but made no difference to the power being produced or indeed the smoke issue. Mermaid then decided to renew all the injectors and bingo full power but...........still white smoke on start up and worse still blue smoke when the engine is warm So to sum up 3 months of heartache just to be told the engine is scrap metal material. Mermaid has offered to remove all the new items fitted for use elsewhere and write off the time they spent on it. They will also supply a new unit at a lower then normal price (still not cheap though) The other minor problem is a delivery time of two weeks although they did say it could be fitted the day after receipt. Due to me being unsure of my feelings towards the Steyr unit I am now also getting prices for other breeds of engine with Yanmar and Volvo being in the frame So it would appear that my first instinct to plant the thing in a field somewhere was the correct assumption to have had all along. Why it took three bl***y months to get to this point is totally beyond me but hey I am not a marine engineer. I am now going to have a stiff drink or two so if I play up at the DD you will know why Martin
  11. Happy Birthday Derek Martin

  14. P R E S S R E L E A S E Sea anglers involved in planning Marine Conservation Zones Two key outcomes were achieved at a recent meeting between Finding Sanctuary and representatives from both national recreational angling associations and South West angling clubs, held in Exmouth on Thursday 26 March. The meeting was organised to decide how sea anglers can make sure that their interests are well represented during Marine Conservation Zone planning in the South West. Finding Sanctuary is working with sea-users to design a network of Marine Conservation Zones to protect marine life and to help safeguard the future of marine resources in the region. 15. Hey Tony hon sec many happy returns, I'll buy you a pint later Martin
  16. Just a quick update Mermaid have completed checking/renewing ancillaries and faulty/damaged electrical items. After words earlier this week they today checked the injectors. Apparently 3 of them are not doing what they should so new one
  17. Sounds like a plan Martin
  18. Duty frees are the same as they always were so the only health scare there is smoking and alcohol
  19. Some reading on bass Here Martin
  20. Hi Patrick and welcome to PBSBAC's home on the net. I have never tried fishing float in that depth and would reccomend the same rigs as Gnasher and Wedger. However as Wedger says if the bottom is very tackle hungry but of a relatively even depth then no reason why a large float should not work. Have fun trying Martin

  22. And SaltX just happen to sponsor this site so it must be good Martin
  23. ATB and happy birthday Tim Martin
  24. As you have looked at this from all other angles what about checking out the turbo to ensure that you are getting the full boost pressure. Just because you can pull max revs with an egg whisk doesn't necessarily mean you are getting full power from your unit. If your not getting full pressure then the engine will not turn an adequately sized propeller to give you the performance you need/should have Just a thought
  25. As far as I'm aware theres not one in the club and I have never been on one apart from that I no nothing I see there are some very varied opinions on WSF though Martin
