  1. Hhuummmm I'll have to think twice abou going out now
  2. No idea what would have caused that Patrick but its almost certainly not caused by driving out the anchor. Members haul out there anchors with motors as small as 30hp outboards so a diesel will have not problems at all doing this excercise. Good job your engine is still in warranty I only wish mine was BTW how are your anchor hauling skills coming on? Martin
  3. Not really Patrick as the engineer is a Steyr trained technician and the uk importers are based in Ferndown so not to far away. Anyway as a general update Poole Marine Service removed the outdrive this week and the engine is coming out next week so I feel we are making progress at last. Martin
  4. Hey Jack long time no see, happy birthday mate Martin
  5. That's exactly what Veronica says Martin
  6. Try as I might I don't find this funny.........................but perhaps that' because I'm one of the over fifties Martin
  7. Really? That is the same price as Salterns in that case - I thought Corals were meant to be cheaper? I got a PM this morning says Corals were 64p?? Bear in mind as it is a monthly account Tonys fuel may have been purchased a month ago when prices were higher Martin
  8. Well done Alun. As ever its good to read your stories but at the moment I would prefer novels to cheer me up Regards martin
  9. I have an account with Corrals for fuel, average prices but with 24-hour access Coddy its not just you they are terribly slow at all office works except for billing Just persevere and phone every other day, that
  10. Happy Birthday Peter ATB Martin
  11. Adam I really feel for you as I know all to well that heart sinking feeling Good luck on Monday Martin
  12. Billy Unfortunately the Marina Club is no more although Adie has moved to The Pure Drop in Poole so it maybe there Good luck Martin
  13. Paul Fuel is a difficult one and will depend on each individual boat and the activities planned ie drifting wrecks, bank fishing, toping, breaming etc as each has different fuel usage. However in the past our usage on AWOL has been around 300-450 litres. It really does depend on what kind of fishing is undertaken. Accommodation is/was around
  14. Good to see you on the forum Duncan look forward to seeing you (and Dave?) in the spring Martin
  15. Dave Phone me, you can either borrow a trailer or if its not to far I can collect in the van Martin
  16. As you say Alderney is nice but for reasons of berthing and facilities Guernsey has the edge. Only problem there is Alderney around 58 miles Guernsey another 29 miles. Also the distance to travel to the banks is about double from Guernsey. I would say if winds are favorable for overnight in Braye then that (at least cost wise) is the better option but if winds from the N/E are expected then Guernsey may have the edge, or a mix of the two? Anyhow for now here
  17. I have always used 2 leisure batteries, 80 amps ea. on Maverick and 110-amp ea. on AWOL. The only problems ever encountered on both boats were when the batteries have been past there best. An average life for a battery in the marine environment is 3-4 years max. Indeed I have heard of boat owners that change their bats every two years as a matter of course. That maybe a little overkill but if at all in doubt change them both. One sick battery will kill the other for sure. Battery packs are brilliant as I found out on our trip with WSF to Weymouth this year. Our alternator gave up the ghost leaving us with two flat bats. Connected a 90amp boost pack and left for a minute or two then started a 3.1 litre diesel no probs. Had to shout over the radio for a loan of that piece of equipment. Not anymore as we now have one along with 2 new batteries Martin
  18. Yeh but you look fifty Sorry only joking whatever youe age Happy Birthday Gordon Martin
  19. You need a Dean Martin
  20. All limits set by the NFSA are not the legal minimum landing size, those are set by DEFRA Our club however is affilliated to the NFSA so for the purposes of fish recording you will have to abide by the NFSA size limit Martin
  21. Not yet as in the past he has been helpfull. It maybe he has issues of his own so although not returning calls is frustrating he may have his reasons. My view may change however and if it does the club will be the first to know Martin

  23. Thanks guys for your kind comments I will keep you updated with progress reports Martin
  24. Most of you would have heard of the engine issues we have suffered over the past two years. Last straw was when fishing over the IOW when the engine struggled to start. When it finally did it went from tick over to full revs of its own accord in a matter of seconds. Also spat out a load of unburnt fuel along with some thick brown/black smoke Tony on Serenity kindly towed us back to Poole (cheers mate) I had at this point had enough of the engine and of the engineer who had failed to carry out some agreed works and wasn
  25. AWOL and crew will be making the trip again this year, engine issues permitting that is (another thread to follow one day when I feel inclined) Martin
