Adam Binding of brakes is caused by the seizing up of the internal workings and can be dealt with as previously posted on this thread. What some of you might like to know is its is better to leave your trailer for long periods (ie when stored at home) without the brakes on, better they sieze off than on. Use chocks to stop your boat moving. Martin

Mike That idea works as several boats use this method to get fresh water to their bait tanks. But obviously only works when underway. Much more conveinient flicking a switch then it works whenever Martin

Adam Your brakes are probably over adjusted so that when you are towing the pads are rubbing on the drums which causes heat to be generated and therefore melting your grease. This poses several problems 1 your pads are probably hard as nails now and may need replacement. 2 your bearings have probably been running with no grease in them due to the grease heating up and melting away, so give them a good looking over. Your brakes will be easy to adjust as it is all cables, just slacken off the main cable slightly and thats it in a nutshell. Dr. Mad Mike can fill you in with all the technical bits Martin

Newboy Is the background noise you describe a hissing noise? if it is your radio is probably not set up correctly. Try playing with your squelch control, turn it one way untill you cannot hear the noise if it wont stop turn the control the other way until it stops. You should always monitor channel 16 in case someone is ever in need of assistance. Most radios have dual watch which meens you can listen to two channels ie 16 and 6 but 16 will always take priority. If you do use dual watch remember to switch it off before transmitting or you may well end up transmitting over channel 16 Have you done the vhf course yet?
