Newboy I have used the volvo and it does tow ok the only problem is that is is front wheel drive so if used on a slippy slip you would have to rope the trailer to keep the vehicle on ground with grip Martin

Hi Dave It was good to meet you, sorry you didnt get more fish but that's our hobby, unpredictable. Apologies for not coming out to play but I won't take maverick out without crew its blooming hard work retreiving a 195 on your own and of course there is the small issue of safety. On the plus side I didn't show any one up as I would probably have fluked more out than you lot Another plus point is that my brownie points bag is overflowing Would be good to see you at a meeting sometime in the future. Would give you a chance to meet some more members all of whom you will find friendly. Martin

Newboy Maverick is over 1.5 tonnes so you would need a fairly large vehicle to tow one of that weight. I have towed it behind a volvo 940 2.5L 170bhp from the factory to home and that was ok. I now have a volvo 850 2.5 140 bhp and that is better than the 940? probably because the 850 is a diesel the 940 petrol the diesel having more torque at lower revs?. Used to use a VW transporter (van) 2.5 litre 88 bhp although it was within the manufacturers stated towing range it did not like the hills at all. The vehicle I use now is a VW T30 (van) 2.5 litre 130bhp and that does the job with no problem. As you can see all the vehicles I use are 2.5L deisels (except the 940) but you also need the bhp Martin

Paul Is that quantity for you or for the boat? I will check posts early 2morrow and pick up bait pm so if you dont post 2night or before 7.30 fri text me. I will see you off baiter at around 7.30 on sat then Martin

Dave I would think you will be slipping at Baiter slip, its probably the only one available to you at a reasonable cost. I pay for an annual pass at cobbs quay so I will launch there and meet you in the area off of baiter. Paul J knows what my boat looks like. High water at Poole entrance on saturday is 1011 with high low water being 1713. The tides are quite large so you will need to allow around 1 - 1.5 hrs either side of low water at the slip to ensure enough water. As the tides are large I would suggest we get a reasonably early start to get on to a deep water mark of off swanage to catch the end of the ebb and the start of the flood. Then as the tide picks up if it becomes uncomfortable to fish we can sort out an inshore mark. You should take plenty of fuel, the marks I am thinking of are spread out abit but you will love the scenery so worth it on two counts. As for bait hopefully we will catch mackerel but I shall also be taking squid, sand eels and a few ragworms. I can pick up some bait for you tommorrow (friday) if you let me know what and how much you want. Let me know what time you want to meet and we will take it from there. Rich are you still up for this trip with Dean and I? Martin

I have the Lowrance 3000MT which is very good. The only thing I wish after using the unit for 15 months is that I had bought a colour version. Martin

Have you all emailed you totals to charlie either on the correct form or via the report your catch link in the mebers section on the main site? It saves Charlie having to sort through all the postings Cheers Martin

Adam The idea of Rich above re: deck wash is a good way of keeping the eels/mackerel alive (if you can get em) you also have the benefit of being able to clean the boat as you make a mess. Thats the kind of thing on Maverick you are welcome to take a look if you like Martin

Maverick went out of Poole with myself and Dean aboard. Bob H thought better of it and spent the day with Wendy. I was getting to the point at one stage where I thought I might just as well stayed home with Veronica. The weather was not to kind, we were being thrown all over the place. Any ways Dean and I plodded on and tried many venues including swanage bay, Peveril, Durslston Bay, Durlston Head, Swanage pierish, Ballard, The end of hook sands and finally brownsea (or should it have been bouncy) castle. Struggled all day but I ended up with a final tally of 4 mackerel 3 pollock 4 wrasse 1 Plaice Dean will post his later but not quite as many as me Enjoyed the day but looking forward to an improvemnt in the weather Martin
-
Dave/Paul Sounds like we may have a trip. Tides are great for launch and retreive. We can decide on venue later in the week, any other trailers/members fancy it? Paul you could do the boat check at the same time all I need to do is get crew for Maverick any takers? Dave I will email you the members list or do you already have it? let me know Martin
-
Nice one Paul sounds like you had a reasonable day Well done Martin

Dave We have two committee members who normally carry out the boat checks (are you available PJ or PR). I also believe any committee member is permitted to give your boat the once over and I for one would be available if the others are busy. It would be good to meet you so I look forward to that weather permitting. If you wanted to go from Poole I could also take out my boat on saturday and would be pleased to show you a few marks. I also may need crew as I am not sure if my son Dean is working or not. If you prefer to go from Weymouth I may also be able to launch there but am not that well up on marks out of there (help Peter or Billy?) I quite fancy a trip outa Weymouth myself for a change. Let us know your timings and preferences and we can work a trip out from there Martin

Well just looked at the weather and can confirm its rubbish. Bob has decided not to come so if anyone needs a ride out they are welcome to fish with Dean and myself. Any takers phone me or post here tonight Martin
