  1. Mike We started doing that towards the end of last year and had a lot of exposure in the press both nationally and local. As soon as the season takes of and we have anything worth reporting I am sure this will start again. Any one who writes a report should forward a copy to Charlie or myself as well as the webmaster. We have the contact details to all the local and national press. It would also be good to keep the one point of contact from the club so a relationship with the press can be built over a period of time. Martin
  2. Just thought we have a section on the front page for reports already set up so this could be used. Aa reoprts are posted a note could be put under the heading news with a link to the reports Just a thought Martin
  3. Adam sounds a good idea, as Bob says if you have the time. Please check with Charlie first as he has in the past done the reports on club comps etc perhaps you could divide the reports up so we have more than one report per month? I will leave it to you guys to sort out Martin
  4. Should soon be smoothie time in the solent perhaps we could repeat last years foray up there with perhaps a little more success. Or the Nab Tower area which I believe can fish well on occasions. I would also like to try other areas out of Weymouth. Looks like it might be a busy year If we do fish the solent area at some point we could then perhaps show newboy how to launch and retrieve properly. Dont however ask me for advice as on our Shambles trip I forgot to put me bung in and Mav nearly sunk ! My crew wondered why she was so low in the water Martin
  5. Adam As you will know after your last attempt at floating Tara the small socket set I keep on Maverick contains plug size sockets, as Charlie has stated with modern outboards there aint a lot else other than change a fuse us mechanically ignorant can do and even those mechanically educated cant do a lot more at sea. Try sitting on your engine in the drive and take out a plug or two, it isnt easy , then get the missus to lift and drop the hitch so you have to hold onto the boat with one hand almost impossible Martin
  6. Adam There is not a lot you can do at sea if anything goes wrong especially with modern outboard motors so taking a full tool chest would be pointless. On Maverick I have a small zip up case with flat and cross head screwdrivers, a small electrical screw driver, adjustable spanner, small socket set, pliers, electrical tape, spare fuses, light bulbs and a length of electrical wire. The tools are not best qaulity but I do spray them with wd40 occasionally. Have had them onboard for about 4 years and they are still in usable condition. I have only used them for electrical problems, havent had any other cause to use tools yet. I have got a box where all my boat bits go ie: cooker, torch cutting board, tools and any other items that are taken of the boat. So they all go on together and all come off together, hopefully then nothing major gets forgotten Martin
  7. Hi This is the Turbot caught by Peter Russel (safety officer) on the Shambles last week aboard Maverick, only a little fishy but a fish all the same Martin
  8. Thanks Peter
  9. I agree with your last comments Paul J Weymouth is certainly a nice venue and we should do it more regular Im up for it Martin
  10. Yep Weymouth sounds a good bet to me and hopefully Dean can make it this time. I wonder when the Bass arrive of Portland? might be worth a try we can make final plans after next weeks comp Martin
  11. Bob H & Peter R were my crew for the day. The weather and conditions were excellent. The plaice on the Shambles unfortunately didnt think so, we never had one. Peter R had a small but pan sized turbot on worm only!. Later in the day as the tide eased we started feathering Launce, Peter and I had about 30 apiece to freeze down for use later in the year. Does anyone know marks out of Poole that hold these eels? The last hour was spent catching pollock on and around the hood, great fun. Overal it was a great day afloat. My van towed the boat effortlessly but could not get traction at the bottom of the very slippy slip. Thanks guys for the push, saved me roping the trailer out. Looking forward to the next day out (18th April first species hunt) Martin
  12. Nice report Adam Not all their cracked up to be then Martin
  13. Paul I'll bring it 2morrow Martin
  14. The last two sweatshirts embroidered with the clubs logo for sale Be a part of it and look the part Size = large Colour = Navy Blue Cost =
  15. James Excellent idea re the trophy for best released specimen can I leave it to you to bring up at the next meeting in aob Cheers Martin
  16. Bob Excellent news glad they sorted it in the end, nice gesture waiving the service cost, but only right really. Martin
  17. Paul Thanks for the offer but I ordered bait for my crew a week ago, theres confidence for you. As for bait to use ragworm and squid cocktail for the plaice. I will also be taking some black lug and blast frozed sand eels. You can also feather up Launce on the banks at slack water. Martin
  18. Oops I thought this thread was about adam joining rope and expecting to fish our area with around 80/90 metres of rope, missed newboys comment. Sorry if I have confused everyone. St Albans is obviously not in the solent but is half way between poole and weymouth Adam are you sure 90metres will be enough to fish all our club waters? Martin
  19. But if you go toping around St Albans 55m+ is the depth you could be fishing, check your chart
  20. Newboy If they both fit on the transom and dont interfere with each other and assuming the aux is clear of the water when underway then no problem The only thing with a bracket is your aux would be well clear of the water and the main engine Martin
  21. Bob I am really sorry to hear of your problems and sympathise 100%. A sorry tail if ever I have heard one. My suggestions are as follows: Firstly contact the manufacturer direct, give them the full story from your side, as posted here. Se what their response is. Secondly contact the local trading standards office and give them the low down on what has taken place they will advise you. Thirdly get a contact email address for Suz oops the manufacturer and let us all have it we will in turn send an email asking how they can expect members of this club to have confidence in their products when they wont even satisfy one customer, or something along those lines. We as a club can advise our members of the service to be expected from suppliers, we have the vehicle to do this via our site, we do not have to be slanderous when we do it there are ways and means. In fact we have started by discussing the issue. Lastly write to the sea fishing magazines and put them in the picture, how can they take advertisments from companies that do not fullfill their promises. We are the magazines customers as well and as such take advice from the writers of such publications. Guys any more ideas Martin

  24. Received my braid orer from Tacklebargains.co.uk today, ordered two types. Type one is called Climax 9.2kg breaking strain (20lbish). It is very thin for the diameter .08mm as opposed to around .40 for mono. Soft and limp to feel, cant wait to try it. Not cheap though at
  25. Hi all I have been reviewing the measures I take to keep my boat safe out of the hands of others I used to just have a wheel clamp of the type caravanners tend to use, you know the big yellow things . Then our friend mr Trevett had his boat nicked, the toe-rags just ripped the boot off and drove the whole rig away. Paranoia then set in and I started looking at the measures I took. I now have these measures in place: The big yellow boot still clamping the wheels A tow hitch lock, the barrel kind that the hitch manufacturers fit to the hitch And now a bulldog hitch lock that fits over the complete hitch I also park my van in front of the rig at night so to pinch the boat they must first pinch the van which is of course immobolised and belled up. Is this as safe as it can be made? Is there anything else a self respecting trailer boater can do to deter unwanted attention? What security do you have? I feel its getting to the point where the locks and security measures I take cost nearly as much as the boat Martin
