Hi cod I generally launch in weymouth harbour there is no (or wasnt last year) problem leaving hte trailer at the slip car parking however is a bit of a trek. I usually use the council office car park which a long stay car park open ot the public at weekends, still a bit of a walk but not to bad. Would be interested in finding better facillities though Martin

Hi Marc The cover on my boat was made by a friend for a very favourable price . This friend owned his own boat cover company. He subsequently went on to make covers for Warrior but unfortunately he died in July last year . If you have a Warrior I would suggest that you get in touch with them to see if they have sourced another supplier. I do however belive they are expensive. If not we have suppliers in our area and I guess there are suppliers local to you who you might try. Regards Martin Ps what breed of boat do you have?

Alun Tactics for fishing plaice on the shambles are drift fishing with the same kind of gear you would fish with from Poole, perhaps slightly heavier as you will need a little more lead there to combat the larger tides. 12lb class rod or slightly less is ideal, matched that with a 6000 sized multiplier perfek. Beads, rauto or delta type spoons, booby beads all wok on there day. You will also need a nice big bait which can consist of rag, lug, squid and crab in cocktails of your choosing. To get the drift speed right most boats drag a weight of some description to slow them down. I use a fold up anchor already tripped ie: tied on at the bottom with a length of chain attached. This slows me enough to keep the baits in the fishy zone You can also catch other species whilst drifting. The shambles is renowned for Brill, Turbot and Bass. A couple of years ago a club member caught a 16lb cod whilst drifting for plaice but then his nickname was the codfather (not the one registered in our forum). If you have never fished this area before it is an excting venue, well worth a visit. Martin

Hi Marc Welcome to PBSBAC, Our forum is open to anyone so please fire away with your questions. If our members cant answer them I am sure they will at least point you in the right direction Regards Martin (Forum admin)

Hi Alun The Shambles is approximately 7 miles in total from Weymouth harbour. The west end is only roughly 1.5 miles from land with the banks stretching for approximately 2.5 miles eastward. On a good day it is flat but when the tide is running the tops of the shambles can get rough with very little wind. The smallest boat I would feel comfortable in would be around 16' and then I would pick the weather. Regards to the fishing I would rather fish weymouth for plaice than Poole purely because of the chance of a biggy otherwise the fishing is hit and miss as elsewhere Martin

Right then Dean cant make the saturday but now he tells me he couldnt make the sunday either . I will check with my other crew member (Bob Horne) to see if he is ok for sat. Peter Russell senior also asked for a trip up to weymouth so Ill ask him as well. Whatever the outcome weather permitting I will be there Martin

Bob Is the place on my boat taken or do we not know yet. Cheers Martin

Hi Paul/Adam He's getting quite demanding this new trailer commodore bloke. I do though think it is a good idea to create a a sub heading under trip planning so long as it is well used. I also think it might be a good idea to have an area for registered forum users only or password protected area for club members only. Before we do this though please consider the input from other knowledgeable blokes we could miss out on. Its your forum its your call Martin

Hi Bob Sounds like this member needs to have a MARKed improvement in his recovery skills or he should at least find new ways to ENTICE his boat onto the hard stuff Martin

Adam Nice one, food for thought, ummmm. save your tackle or your m8? well I would hit my man overboard button first, Cut my fishing lines for definate, Buoy off my anchor (your buoy is already in the water just tie it off) and chuck the rest of my warp in then head down tide to pick up my buddy. Hopefully he has got his whistle which he is blowing like a man possesed oh and where do I buy one of those lights!!! Martin

Bob Sounds good to me, Dean and I are looking forward to it Martin

Adam You can safely pass over the ledge if there is no wind but it doesnt take much to stir things up. Wind against tide is obviously going to be the time to avoid it. You can also safely pass over the ledge if theres no tide running. I have though bricked myself and taken a soaking on more than one occasion, it can be a bit of a fair ground ride at times. You can obviously see if its passable before you get there so just take care and if it looks to rough it probably is. One tip is it tends to be a little better really close in or failing that go out and around it. Martin
