  2. I have managed to source a combined chain and rope winch which has an optional capstan on the same side. I think they are made in Australia by Maxwell and imported by Golden Arrow Marine in Southampton which is part of the Salterns Group. The beauty of the VW model is that it can be mounted both vertically and horizontally. I am looking at mounting it horizontally. I have a couple of conerns about my proposed set up. I did think about a side mounted Capstan, but a lot of strengthening and routing of chain/rope would be required and Iwould virtually lose one of the narrow walkways. As it is at the moment, it is necessary to take the rope off the bow roller and put it on a side cleat to use a buoy and recovery ring so nothing new in having to go up front which is not a problem as Fisheagle has deep all round walkways. The bow roller and surrounding areas could be strenghtened and a stronger roller fitted. However, the amount of work involved would be similar to that needed to fit a self launching bow roller which could be used with a winch/combined capstan so I am moving in that direction. I am sure there will be times when the ring and buoy will still be needed, especially in deeper water, but a new set up offers options. For example, I once found myself bream fishing early morning off the cave between Swanage and Old Harry. By the time we decided to move, we were surrounded by boats and could not use the buoy as there was no where to go. It may still be necessary for someone to go up front, but better than pulling up by hand. The winch winch /capstan set up will not be cheap and were I a lot younger, I may not have bothered. Fisheagle's electrical system will allow for a third battery and the breakers are all 60 amps so I am told we should be ok there as the proposed winch/ capstan draws 100 amps. At the moment, we are looking at options and nothing is decided. Any advice/thoughts/ help is more than welcome.
  3. I am still in France for the next week or so, but may add to this thread when I get back. Looking at fitting a winch and combined capstan with both on the same side so the rope can go from one to the other if necessary. Some stainless strengthening which Coddie's son may make as he he is setting up his own fabrication/stainless steel/welding business and has access to lazer cutters etc. Will also install a self launching roller, cabin and foot controls etc. It will be side mounted over the anchor well and have about a foot more drop than the Jeanneau factory fitted ones, also, I hope to enlarge the anchor well lid so the rope sits better. Will have to go for slightly larger chain and rope as well.
  4. Have great day Nige, even better with the boat back.
  5. Fantastic news. You can now get the 50th. Species and also in time for the winter species.☺
  6. Been on the sherry again?
  7. Have a good trip Jim. If you fancy a trip in the future let us know.
  8. Due to an unavoidable late cancellation, Fisheagle has crew space for one with myself and Dave (Coddy) on Sat. 5th. September. We will be leaving Cobbs for a leisurely trip around 9 am. and returning through the 5.30 pm. Poole Bridge. Bait is available as well as tackle if needed. Share costs. If anyone is interested, we will be using an anchor recovery buoy and we would be more than happy to spend a bit of time giving a basic intro. to the radio and plotter. Fishing Poole, Boscombe/Southbourne. Please call Allan on 0775356474 before 9.30 pm.
  9. Probably an Airmar. Find what fluid they put in it and keep some on board in case you need to top it up. Dave and I are very good at taking them apart and putting them back together. Assuming you have the Navionics Platinum Plus Chart which will activate the Fish'N Chips embedded sonar which was another learning curve? Sounds like the main problem has been solved.
  10. I have a gen 2 setup. The structure scan is on the transom and also shows depth. I have had endless problems with the depth /fishfinder sonar side which are now resolved with a new through hull transducer moved from the starboard locker where it never worked properly to under the floor to the rear of the cabin where there seems to be a flat area which is designed for it, but my cabin is different to yours. By sonar do you mean the extra contours/details shown on the Navionics Charts when you use "fish'n chips"? This works through a different transducer to the downscan. This needs switching on and is only available after the screen reaches a certain magnification. Allan.
  11. Have had drinks and Sunday Lunch and recommended it to my Sister and husband when they were in Poole.Believe the restaurant and bar are open to the public, at least for Sunday Lunch . Didn't know about the hotel. Have some french friends who are keen sailors who have asked my to find some where in Poole, could fit the bill.
  12. Hope gets sorted soon.
  13. Maybe it is something the Club could organise for members as we have several contacts there. There were areas I would have liked to seen , but it was too busy, for example, the Sea Survival Building. The bar and meals also looked inviting.
  14. Hope this works. Last one didn't. Think I forgot to press add file Success at last.
  15. Using Oli's guide, I am going to try to put up a picture from my tablet gallery rather than asking other people.
  16. Thanks for putting up the pictures Dave. Allan.
  17. Didn't know there was parking inside, thought it would be reserved for the disabled and special needs. However, we gave well more than the recommended donation. Did the £5 include the suggested voluntary £2 per person contribution?
  18. No probs parking in Asda and walked through the side gate to the right of the store.Ann had the car cleaned by the valeters and we left it in one of their free reserved bays for nothing then shopped after the visit.
  19. Went down to the Open Day and was well impressed. Had my life jackets checked as one of the ones I was bought as a present was an hammer action one with the cylinder built into the bladder. The firing mechanism had to be prised out of a silicon type gasket with a coin and was fiddly to refit. Was shown some of the Kru jackets which I was very impressed by. Very snug fitting, no neck rubbing and built in spray hood and crotch straps and easy to check/replace firing mechanisms/cylinders. Will investigate these further. Took a few pictures while we were down there and saw the new facility with various lifeboats (water propelled 25 knot jobs). Started to realize how much work we don't see goes into fitting them out. Perhaps Dave will still have enough energy to put a few snaps up this evening after today's crowds. Wondered if I should have gone fishing when I saw Sea Dream, Frisky Fox, Reel Magic? and a few other Club boats coming back from their forays in the Bay.
  20. Well done everybody. One hell of a lucky guy and dog. Allan
  21. Your having some hard luck, hope it gets sorted soon and not too expensive. Allan.
  22. Fisheagle will be having an early start and heading east and hoping for a bass or early trigger. Probably with Yann T. and John S . Will be on Ch 6.
  23. We had a very enjoyable day on Fisheagle and everyone enjoyed themselves. The two youngsters were kept busy. Given the limited areas we could fish for safety and the at times, slightly snotty conditions, they both did well with almost friendly rivalry running through the day. I have asked Dave (Coddy) to put up some pictures and Paul will add a few more when he does the catch report. Paul will confirm he is happy for the Club to use them. Ironically, having just sorted our transducer, I forgot the plotter and fishfinder. I can highly recommend the Navionics phone/tablet version which served us well as a back up plotter. Would we have done better with known plotter marks and fishfinder is any bodies guess. Many thanks to Alfresco and crew. Allan.
  24. Fisheagle will be "driving " things along with Paul, Sofie and Curtis Driver. No pressure after their recent success last time out. Allan.
  25. Many thanks for the report Hooky. Look forward to more pictures. The "hybrid" looks more like an undulate as the picture does not show the patches of spikes on the wings. You forgot to mention you lowered the anchor into 90 feet of water with the detatchable recovery ring still hanging from the anchor. God knows how it didn't drop off. Sods law the one time it got stuck. Otherwise, a great couple of days. We will get some of those bass and other elusive species next time.
