I think you can fish for sea species such a mullet if you are using Ragworm. I think maggots and bread would be a no. I'll look in my old CAC book if I can find it! Rob

I have just spent 5 days in the fantastic Brecon Beacons. We just happened to be staying next to Llangorse lake and I just so happened to have a Mercury 3.3hp outboard with me! So a day on a rental boat was in order. Generally this is a pike fishing water and I had some insider info from Alun J as he has previously spent time pike fishing at this venue. Well, the day was overcast, slight wind and not too cold - perfect. I managed 6 pike - best going 8lbs. 5 on dead baits and one on a lure - missed one on a surface lure which was surprising for the temperature of the water and the brown soup-y colour of it. Pics - below: Eyes bigger than it's belly - that lure is 28cm overall! Just thought I should give it a chuck as I had it with me! Not the 20lb+ I was hoping for - more like 5lb. Note the scares on the belly - must have had a close call at some point. Self portrait with the 8 pounder. Life Jacket - check. No crutch straps - it was inland! Stunning Sunset.

I only have a single batteryon the boat (starting type obviously) and then run my bait pump from a portable jumpstarter, therefore it can be easily removed to save weight when not carrying the live well. Had just the one starting battery on my old boat and never had had a problem with them. Has anyone tried starting their engine with the pull cord? I did on my last boat and all I managed to do was attract the attention of a yachty who offered me the use of their tool kit! So there not all bad!!!! Not an early start but myself and friend Nick headed out of Poole at about 9. The harbour was a millpond and it was fairly flat outside. We headed to outside of the Spoil Ground and dropped the pick. Put out a call to any PBSBAC boats but silence!! Started off slow with a LSD each (only ones all day!). Then as the tide slowed it went mad for an hour. We had numerous Whiting on Maccy or squid. Some of the biggest ones went 2.5 lb+ and came on whole squid. Spoke to Foxy Fisher Too who had had a nice double figure cod and a few whiting also. The tide which I thought would easy around 14:00 never happened so we headed back with a few fish for dinner and returned many little'un's to grow bigger. Nice to see Reflections 2 on the way in to the quay. Good luck to the boats going out tomorrow. Rob
