    Rope

Thanks for the offer Charlie, The two ropes I have are too short for my liking anyway, they can only be 35/40m when joined. So I decided that new was the way forward. 10 or 12 mm I don't mind the expens but I don't want the old "I wish I had....." syndrome!!!! On the splicing front I wouldn't mind a lesson, as I hope to put two on my bouy rope and put in a "whats-a-ma-do-dar" at the end of the anchor rope to attach the shackle on the anchor chain!!! Rob

Thanks - yes 10mm can be harsh. But with the bouy I shouldn't have to worry too much! How about the drag factor?, I use a 5kg bruce with 3meters of 8mm chain (about another 5kgs). Rob
  3. Paul, I am up for crewing Sunday. What time are you thinking? Rob

Advice please? Do I buy 10mm or 12mm Anchor Warp? I am going with 3 ply Nylon, my boat is 16ft and 400kg Hull and motor. Currently I use 2 lengths of 10mm so they have a join! No good as I am going to upgrade to lifting bouy, as hand pulling the warp in 75ft of 2.5knt water was not fun on Saturday! I've fitted a Bow roller and are almost ready to go! Rob
  6. Mike, Thanks for the PM. I thought you said 1.5 miles not .5 miles, after re-reading my notes I tracked back!!!! Had trouble though, got the hook down and found that the tide was blasting through. Couldn't get a bait down even with 16oz on 20lb pro braid! I assume I need to fish this site when the tide is running slower? Advise would be gratefully received. Managed a few mackerel on the way back in for BBQ on sunday. Rob
  7. Guys, I am hoping to try for rays tomorrow somewhere near Swanage. If anyone can help me with numbers I would be most grateful, though I do have a rough idea. But where can I find mackrell around Poole Harbour entrance? B,mouth? Ballard? Help, I have never caught a West Poole Bay Mackerel! Cheers Rob

    Bit Blowy!!

When Alan says "Pointy end" I think he means of the drogue. So you can collapse it quick and pull it in quick. I have used one I bought from Christchurch Boat shop years ago, can be effective even just slowing you down whilst feathering for mackerel. When I had my 13ft dory I used to put it on the stern so I had stern facing the oncoming waves. Reason being, the bow tended to dip under any size wave in a swell! It would take on water in Poole Boating lake it was so low! Having the bilge pump on all the time got a little annoying! Rob
  9. Nice work Alun, I'm gonna have to give the ledge more of my time! Rob
  10. Mike, I was launching at the RNLI as you motored through the Holes Bay to the Bridge. I did wave but your crew just kinda looked on! I'll have to get a bigger pennant! Rob
  11. I will advised on reverse drainage later and JoJo is hitched to the car and we are off any minute. Paul, I know what you mean re. obstacle, so Mk3 might hav the drain on the outside at the bottom. Just didn't want to cut a hole in the bottom of my new tank withnout tryiong it first! Though the fish didn't mind the last one with a filler tube inside like Gnasher's. We'll see - if I can get some maccy round Poole! Laters Rob
  12. Most parts were from B&Q - I can advise if required.
  13. HI, I have just made one - barrell

    Jojo's Saturday

Unfortunatley not it was mackerel. Though I think I will take a fly rod out now as standard kit, an 8oz mackerel looked good fun on the fly! Rob
  16. Had a friend (Nick) over from Portland to fish with me on JoJo on Saturday. We headed out of Wick at 9:30 am, not much water but enough for us! Saw shoals of fish chasing fry in the harbour, Nick wanted to cast a fly but I thought we need to keep moving + it was quite windy. Arrived at the run for the rain to start, donned waterproofs and out we went. Charged over the ledge in to the deeper water for some Maccy. The rain was stinging and I have to wear sunnies to keep it out my eyes! Once in the deeper water we found the Maccy quickly, Nick was determind to catch one on a fly so I fished feathers. The conditions were what I would call uncomfortable each wave was 2 ft and going was slow and we took on loads of water, kind of fun for the first 10 mins! Drifting was not too bad but quite fast, after filling the bait well with fish and Nick getting one on the fly we headed in for shelter and a coffee. We put out a couple of baits whilst at anchor and enjoyed the sunshine, rain, wind, not always in that order. The sea calmed down, sun came out and wind died, couldn't have been more different. Along came Aquafresh and they were drifting near to us, if it's good enough for them then it is more than ok for us! So we did a few drifts, Aquafresh left and we had the area to ourselves. Nick picked up a bass of 3lb and I had nothing, typical! Wind picked up again at 14:30 ish so fished for another hour then headed back. Overall a good day out, only from the fact that we were able to fish relatively calm waters compared to the bait collection in the morning. Nice to be out and some of the Maccy went down well at a family BBQ on Sunday. Rob
  17. Trev, Your doing well. My mate Nick from CEFAS, who knows you from Fish Farmers Conference's is very jelous! I am taking him out today, if we don't do well we will have to get you to give us a lift one day!!!! Rob

    Slip Way

I think it is free, the road is public access to the Holes Bay which they built their campus around. I am not 100% but some guys here who work\live in Poole might be able to help. Anyone?
  19. I wouldn't dream of it! Coddy, the weather is going to be so good we will be in shell bay!!!! Rob

    Slip Way

Just been to the RNLI in Poole, the slipway at the end of Slip Way has been finished. The ramp at the end unfortunatley looks tight for a car launch and too steep for a hand launch. The are about 20 tenders in racks along each side and approx 6 parking spaces. Just a shame about the access, others may find it suitable but I don't think I could get my trailer down there but someone with better car and trailer control might be OK. With an early start you could get a car and trailer in the parking available. Or even park in ASDA for an eveing session as it is free after 6pm. Not sure how they would take to a car and trailer. Rob
  22. Hope to be there at the next one. I'll bring the do-nuts (not edible type) for some fun!! Rob
  23. Congrats Alun, don't over do the fishing! If that is possible? Perhaps you could research that for us!!!! Rob
