  5. Tom - Spot on, my friend has put a deposit down on a Nanni for his yacht. He now needs a prop shaft etc and a man to fit it. I have recommended he call Sam Trickett but am unsure if this is in Sam's line of work. Also, he has looked at Lake Engineering ( Poole ) Ltd for the shaft etc. Does anyone have any experience with them? Cheers Rob

  9. With a 165 you might just get away with launching on the Hamble behind the Ship Inn. I have launched my old Dory 13 and current boat 16ft Terhi there. Even with a lowish tide the slip is compacted gravel and you can go out a long way. I used to launch by hand and use a 10m rope to retreive though! Plus free parking at the top of the slip. Warsah could be more suitable for bigger craft + you are nearer the mouth of the river so save 20 mins motoring. And it used to be free parking in the carpark 500yds round the one way system. Having not used them in a couple of years things could have changed! Rob

  13. I colleague of mine needs to replace his ancient inboard on his 28ft yacht. I know the majority of us here do not use sail power but a number of you have vast marine engine experience, so I offered to tap in to it for him. He is looking for a 12-20 hp diesel inboard brand new, he has looked at Yanmar but is open to suggestions. He was thinking of heading to the boat show to get a deal. Is he best going to the show in the first few days or late in the week when there will be targets for the sales guys to hit? Or does he wait till winter when business is really quiet to get a good deal? Any advice on brands and timing would be appreciated. Thanks Rob

  19. No probs Adam, I am fully experienced in windows - done 3 for myself. I will gladly do them for you. Its a HF welder not RF!!!! High Frequency, like a microwave between two narrow plates. The same as they use at Ringwood Flexigoods. I could possibly run over your seams if required! (feel the confidence, anyone would think I had spent more than a couple of hours infront of it, though I had a good teacher!!!!) Rob

    Towing Limits

Mike are you goignt to get a proper fishing boat? Rob Seriously, you need to check your car specs for the limits. I know the caravan club don't recommend towing more than 85% of your cars weight (p.s. Just to be clear, I don't have a caravan!). My dad just bought a caravan 90% of his car weight and took it back to change for one of 82% ish and suggested the difference was remarkable.
  21. Yep - also in fire fox.
  22. Duncan, Can I assume you use Adobe Photoshop? If so there is a very good FREE alternative called "Gimp": http://downloads.sourceforge.net/gimp-win/...-i586-setup.exe You will also need GTK installed: http://downloads.sourceforge.net/gimp-win/...10.13-setup.exe Alternativley a simpler software for batch resizing and croping is "Paint.NET": http://www.skyorb.com/downloads/Paint.NET.3.10.exe You will need dot net framework 2.0: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...&displaylang=en Hope this is useful. Rob
  23. Maccy by the bucket load off Henisbury, Charlie and I were pulling them 4 at a time, my feathers have lost all their "feathers" just a tiny ring of red plastic and they still worked!
  24. I have been making progress on my folding cuddy (this is Alun J's fault when I saw just how effective they are in turning a crappy day to a comfortable day). Up to today I have made 4 mock versions out of sheets and the plastic dpm sheet and copper pipe. I managed to get some 19mm ali tubing which was carefully heated and bent int to shape. 19mm Nylon fittings were sourced from Kayospruce http://www.sailcloth.co.uk/, over by J9 M27. I have been to see the guys at Ringwood flexi goods (thanks Adam for the contact). Here I sourced 3mx2m of marquee fabric and some clear for windows. Today I took the plunge and cut out the template in the final material, using a RF Welder at work I hemed the edges, put in some windows and shaped it round the hand rail with some success. Next I need to put fixings on the boat and in the edges of the Cuddy, only after a serious amount of gaffa taping and checking and double checking. Hope to have it done for the 9th! Rob Will add pics soon.
