  15. It is a difficult balance between taking enough fuel to get you to Alderney safely (should conditions change, you end up sharing the tow of a buddy etc) v making the most of the fuel prices! Also, some boats may refuel on crossing day on the way to the banks depending on amount of fuel remaining and of course timing of the tide to allow entry to the inner harbour. Though i think most boats brim their tanks for the journey home as it makes sense to on a cost perspective. And yes we do make use of the duty free booze allowance! Thanks, Rob

    Not a boaty question.

Pointless and no worky! There was an electronic one in my flat, rubbish. In the house we installed a electrolytic / magnetic type, crap! So now I have put in plumbing with the option for fit salt softener. They are a few £'00 and coat £60 per annum to run I think. So, we are undecided. I have 1 loo I need to re-plumb so that is is on the softener and then only outdoor taps, kitchen cold and bathroom colds are mains direct.
  19. Nice work Steve!
  20. I have water in the top Via a ring of flexy tube all the way around that is perforated and acts like a shower head on the top of the barrel. I let the water out from the bottom, but a hole on the outside (as a pipe inside the barrel will hinder the maccy swimming round and round. Filter in the bottom yes. I have a T junction at the peak of the out let (position of outlet dictates water level in barrel), the T is open to stop the water siphoning out, until the end of the day when I plug it and the barrel self empties!
  21. Dave, I was thinking only yesterday that I hadn't seen a report from you in this fine spell of weather! Good luck mate. Rob
