  6. I usually think £350 as a crew member. Plus, any gear you buy in Alderney Angling!!!!!
  7. Let's try not to mention the "A" word tonight!!!!
  8. Keep up Franklin! And yes I'm surprised too, at no takers on the crewing front for LilBrit!
  9. Every boat is a compromise, the answer, more than one boat!!!
  10. 235 pages and 2300+ posts! http://www.worldseafishing.com/forums/boat-owning-equipment-maintenance/365977-wilson-flyer-23-build.html Shame a load of the photos have gone!
  11. Yes, read Garry23flyers massive post about his build. Worth a read!
  12. It is a difficult balance between taking enough fuel to get you to Alderney safely (should conditions change, you end up sharing the tow of a buddy etc) v making the most of the fuel prices! Also, some boats may refuel on crossing day on the way to the banks depending on amount of fuel remaining and of course timing of the tide to allow entry to the inner harbour. Though i think most boats brim their tanks for the journey home as it makes sense to on a cost perspective. And yes we do make use of the duty free booze allowance! Thanks, Rob
  13. Enjoy Kam!
  14. Smucking Fart Charlie! I was discussing your rope / chain guide with BigCol last week. He may ask you for some pics!!! Rob

    Not a boaty question.

Pointless and no worky! There was an electronic one in my flat, rubbish. In the house we installed a electrolytic / magnetic type, crap! So now I have put in plumbing with the option for fit salt softener. They are a few £'00 and coat £60 per annum to run I think. So, we are undecided. I have 1 loo I need to re-plumb so that is is on the softener and then only outdoor taps, kitchen cold and bathroom colds are mains direct.
  16. Nice work Steve!
  17. I have water in the top Via a ring of flexy tube all the way around that is perforated and acts like a shower head on the top of the barrel. I let the water out from the bottom, but a hole on the outside (as a pipe inside the barrel will hinder the maccy swimming round and round. Filter in the bottom yes. I have a T junction at the peak of the out let (position of outlet dictates water level in barrel), the T is open to stop the water siphoning out, until the end of the day when I plug it and the barrel self empties!
  18. Dave, I was thinking only yesterday that I hadn't seen a report from you in this fine spell of weather! Good luck mate. Rob
  19. Did I ever mention my middle name is chapman? Thanks Chris!
  20. These guys are interesting: http://www.ocearch.org "OCEARCH is a non-profit organization with a global reach for unprecedented research on great white sharks and other large apex predators. In a collaborative environment established by Founding Chairman and Expedition Leader Chris Fischer, OCEARCH enables leading researchers and institutions to generate previously unattainable data on the movement, biology and health of sharks to protect their future while enhancing public safety and education." They allows their data to be accessed live and the shark tracker in interesting. lysis the Great White was heading our way but went south. The mobile phone app is ace and easy to use. They have a great YouTube channel and have a great technique for catching then satellite tag, accelerometer tag and something in the belly cavity. http://www.youtube.com/user/OCEARCH Lydia 2000lbs being tagged: "http://youtu.be/-IJ0uLh9UAs"

  23. Hell of a link clip on that first one! I prefer something like these: http://www.lureheaven.co.uk/spinning-lure-fishing-shop/delalande-agrafes-rapide-lure-clips-n2.html or http://www.lureheaven.co.uk/spinning-lure-fishing-shop/snowbee-no-not-fas-snaps-n2.html I think that lure choice is much about catching the angler 1st, then the fish! personal preference will come in to it a lot, a bit like if you ask, what light downtide rod do you prefer - and get 30 different answers from 29 anglers! I think it is important to change lures quickly and regularly, you don't know what is happening that you can't see! You may have wrong size, colour or action. Fly fishing for BigMouth bass in Canada, i was on a high bank and could see fish chasing the fly, following it to very shallow water but all would turn away at the last second and never taking! so, i tried faster, slower, to no avail! Changed the fly, 3 or 4 times, bang! found the fly that worked, fish a cast (no joke!). The difference in my "eyes" was small, but not to the Bass! That was a great lesson! No doubt the next day another fly would have been "the one"!
  24. Ah! Did wonder why the term hadn't been mentioned as when discussed a while ago it seemed the obvious choice! Might get a radar arch for my hat, so I can have one on JoJo!
  25. Have you looked at broadband radar? I think I has amazing detail up close and and personal. Someone here will know!
