  2. If you go on C-Maps web site they list all the plotters that use their mapping formats. http://www.c-map.co.uk/leisure_boats.html Seems they have just brought out a new version 'Max C-Map NT Looks 'cool' as the youngsters say with many advance features Coddy

    Multi meter

Hi Kam Sorry to be piccy but some points you should be aware of; 1 'Omega': (symbol) Rx10, Rx1k is for testing the resistance NOT for checking continuity as you may have components which could give you a false reading. For continuity checking use a simple light and two croc clips or a purpose made circuit tester. 2 ACV: 500,250,50,10 is for checking voltage of AC or Alternating Current at various voltages, always use one range higher than the voltage you are testing. 3 Batt: 1.5v,9v Not seen this one before but could it be for checking the meter's internal battery? 4 DCA:500uA,10mA,250mA As Paul said this is for checking the current from a DC or Direct Current supply. The range on your meter is swmall so be VERY careful if using this function. Your current range is 10 to 20 miliamps. DC current is more dangerous than AC and I have seen more elecrical fires started due to short circuits and burt fingers/hands than I care to recall. 5 DCV:500,250,50,10,2.5 This can be used for checking the voltages of batteries or a supply which is DC or Direct Current. i.e. checking your battery voltage, again make sure you select the correct range for the battery or supply you are testing. I expect this is as clear as mud now If you have any problems give me a call. Regards Coddy
  4. On my 165 I have x2 batteries. One is under the steering console and the other is sited on the seat inside the cabin along side the steering console. This was set up by Warrior when the boat was purchased. I have not had any problems with overheating wires or anything. I have just to add the change over switch and add some more switches so that I can add lights to flood the back of the boat for when I try night fishing when the warm summer nights come along! Regards Coddy

    Outboards

Hi all Just a small point, last year I left the boat on a drying mooring overnight but forgot to lift the outboard. Next morning started the engine and noticed that the tell tale was not showing any water out of it. I found that when the tide went out the boat and outboard sank into the mud/silt and when I started the engine it sucked up residue of mud into the engine. I used a baiting needle to clear the tell tale and it has been fine every since. Moral is always lift the outboard on a drying mooring! Coddy

    Lazy Line

I use to use a lazy line on my Seahog which did not have a front access hatch. I still used the Alderny ring method of lifting the anchor. It worked a treat and it kept the anchor buoy away from the boat. Coddy
  8. Hi Bob Why did you not connect the 2nd battery to the switch? On most wiring diagrams I have seen for the change over switch has the Red lead from the outboard to the common and the +ve lead from each battery to terminals 1 and 2. You can then start/charge the engine by selecting whichever battery or both you want. Regards Coddy
  9. Hi Adam Just catching up on messages. One thing would worry me about your diagram is the lack of in line fuses for the 12v socket and bilge pump. I personally would add an inline fuse, easy to work out maximum current used when everything is switched on, on the main feed to the switch fused panel. Don't forget to carry spare fuses in your tool kit, just in case. Coddy

    Painted Weights

Hi Martin Managed a Pink Snapper and a Dew fish (think thats how its spelt) Most on the boat blanked, they were manly Korean who did not understand English/Aussie!! One Aussie had an electric multiplyer which was operated from a car 12v battery, claimed it saved all the energy in winding in! I was surprised that he bothered to fish at all as he wanted others to do most of the work! It was nice to get out on the sea after all the flying I have done. Coddy

    Painted Weights

HI Managed a bit of fishing "down under" last week-end on a charter boat. Interesting thing was all the leads had part of a push bike inner tube pushed over them, these were plain leads for drifting. When I asked why the response was: 1/ With 20+ anglers swinging leads it saved the gel coat (as Adam suggested) 2/ Reduced loss of leads getting stuck? (didn't understand that one) 3/ Saved the coral from damage when drifting over it Interesting theory about not getting jammed, aparantly the lead slips out of the rubber if jammed! Might give it a try to see if it works. Coddy
  12. Hi Duncan Sounds like a good idea. Had a look at your profile it shows nothing not even a real name or location. I added my boat info under interests. Just a thought Coddy
  13. Hi everyone A friend of mine does fly fishing and has asked me if there are some good places to fish around the Poole area and don't cost a fortune to do so. If you have any contact names even better but he is looking to Day fishing rather than having to join a club. Thanks for any help Coddy
  14. One thought I have found 10mm rope just a bit too small to comfortably hold, 12mm gives you that little more grip. Off my box now Coddy
  15. Hi Kam I use polyprop 3 strand of about 12mm, I have a swivel at the end of the chain to warp plus when retreving the warp I coil it into the cut down rain tub which I use as I recover the anchor from the side of the boat. I don't have an anchor locker on my Warrior, plus it is safer when there is a swell. I normally coil it in a anti-clockwiase direction then it seems to want to go the other way so I let it coil clockwise. I have never had a mishap yet! (fatal last words) As others have said it is important to coil it neatly so it will flow out smoothly and quickly when needed. A round tub helps I have found as I have tried most other shapes before the tub. If you use one don't forget to drill some drain holes in the bottom to let out all the excess water. Stops the smells as well! Coddy
  16. Hi Alan We did not think so as it was a nibble to start with then a snatch as it dived into the wreck. You could see the rod twitch as it started to take and my mate said he could feel it swim. Hope you won a big pot as the drinks will all be on you next time! Coddy
  17. Hi Paul May I suggest a return button to the club's home page from the thank you page when reporting your catch. I know you can hit the 'Back' button but it is easier to hit a home button. Just a thought Coddy
  18. Hi all I went out today in Sammy from Weymouth, thanks for the suggestions of locations Boybilly. Started out at Grove point but was dead apart from a small wrasse, went to get the anchor up but would it shift! I knew the trips would go but I could not understand why the anchor bouy would not lift it. Had to man handle the rope directly over the spot and heave it up. Eventually I could see that a pot rope had got around the flukes and shaft of the anchor and we were pulling not only my anchour but the pot one as well! Managed to get it up enough to cut the rope of the pot line with a BIG lean over the bow. Luckily there was very little swell otherwise it may have been a differant matter. After that we went to Adamant Shoal, saw a couple of boats fishing which must be good news for me. WIthin a few minutes we were catching doggies & whiting up to 1lb 14ozs, which is big to me coming from the East Coast. Soon it was time to head in but we had a few drifts over the Hood with an artifical worm and my mate's rod was momentaraly bent double than got snapped off. This happened twice so we think there may be some big pollock around there. Still it was nice to be out on the sea and wet a line again after so long. Glad others managed to get out and have a good time. Coddy
  19. I am going out too, from Weymouth as my crew does not have waders. Still, hoping I can get some fish from the West end of the club's waters. Thanks to BoyBilly for some info and will give you a call on the radio to see if you are out nearby. Regards Coddy
  20. Hi Billy I would keep my Conolon 8-12lb downtider and Uptider. It would be a hard choice between the two uptiders, I have a Conolon and Penn, the Penn is old but has done sterling work and shows most bites but the ABU is new and I am just getting used to it. Reels, I still like my old but very tatty Shakespear Neptune and the Penn 535GS I have never owned or tried a really expensive rods or reels to see what differences, if any, they would have. It is all the hooks, leads, trace line etc that takes up all the room. Coddy

    Which Knot?

Hi all Found this site which has fishing knots and boating knots http://www.netknots.com/index.html Thought it might be useful. Coddy
  22. Hi As the subject has come up, did you know that leaving a lead acid battery on a concrete floor will kill a battery quicker than anything else? Always stand it on a mat or blocks of wood, just make sure it does not come into concrete. I don't know why but was told it was something to do with the water in concrete. Coddy

    Which one chaps

Hi all There is one boat that no one has mentioned, it is the new 22ft Explorer I had a good look around it at the NEC last year, I admit it was the prototype but it looked very promising. It depends if you want a cuddy or enclosed cabin, there have been a number of adverts in the BFM and it has a number of engine options. For the price it seems very reasonable .................... if you have the money! I have suggested a large boat instead of buying a house to the FPO but I wont repeat on the forum her reply! Regards Coddy

    Another One?

Reasons Why Boats Are Better Than Women: Boats only need their fluids changed every year. Boats curves never sag. Boats last longer. Boats don't get pregnant. You can ride a Boat any time of the month. Boats don't have parents. Boats don't whine unless something is really wrong. You can share your Boat with your friends. If your Boat makes too much noise, you can buy a muffler. You only need to get a new belt for your Boat when the old one is really worn. If your Boat smokes, you can do something about it. Boats don't care about how many other Boats you have ridden. When riding, you and your Boat both arrive at the same time. Boats don't care about how many other Boats you have. Boats don't mind if you look at other Boats, or if you buy Boating magazines. If your Boat is misaligned, you don't have to discuss politics to correct it. You can have a beer while riding your Boat. You don't have to be jealous of the guy that works on your Boat. You don't have to deal with priests or blood-tests to register your Boat. You don't have to convince your Boat that you're a Boater and that you think that all Boats are equals. REASONS WHY BOATS ARE BETTER THAN WOMEN 2 If you say bad things to your Boat, you don't have to apologise before you can ride it again. You can ride a Boat as long as you want and it won't get sore. Your parents don't remain in touch with your old Boat after you dump it. Boats always feel like going for a ride. Boats don't insult you if you are a bad boater. Boats don't care if you are late. You don't have to take a shower before riding your Boat. It's always ok to use tie downs on your Boats. If your Boat doesn't look good, you can paint it or get better parts. You can't get diseases from a Boat you don't know very well. Think I better stop now Coddy
