  1. Bob I have a list of marks for the Hayling/IoW area which I am happy to send you. If you send me a message with your email address I will send it to you as I am not sure how to add attachments via this forum. The attachment will be in MS Word or MS Excel if you can read them. Regards Cod
  2. Hi Duncan Have a word with JG Technologies at Weymouth http://www.jgtech.co.uk/page3.htm?tp=CONTINUE+SHOPPING They might be able to help you as it is fairly near by. Cod
  3. Hi All I have launched at this slip, if you ask nicely the Eastney Sea Fishing Club will help out, they have a modified dumper to haul trailers (and cars) out of problems. You do need reduced tides as it can be a problem to recover, no so much to launch however. I recovered with a front wheel drive car pulling a hog out but if really low use a rope to play safe. Watch out for wash from other boats as I scratched the hull of the hog on the trailer due to some boat going by with a big wash! Watch out also for freak swells near entrance as I was nearly thrown out of boat once, low tide is a bu****er. Have fun guys. By the way, the Hayling Island side is just as bad to recover with an outgoing tide to get the boat straight onto the trailer. Tide rips through at times. Take extreme care. Northly and Southly winds can create BIG swells at the entrace of the channel. Regards Cod
  4. Duncan You can get replacement cables from Lowrance in the States. Check this web site http://www.lei-extras.com/store/search.asp Select what you want. 5. Hi Guys Not sure if you are all aware but I have made a web site for users of fishing boats and their equipment. If any of you care to send me some of your thoughts on your boats and/or equipment I will add them to the relevent pages to help others. If you have had or got poor eqiipment please tell me so I can add that as well. Any information would be great. Thanks in advance Codfather http://fishing_boats.tripod.com
  6. Hi It might be an idea if you add the following email address to your address book AAAAAAA@AAA.com This way if a virus trys to send a message from your address book you will get a message of "failed delivery" and know that you have a virus in your system. It also helps as the virus can get trapped due to its failure as this is the first email address in your address book. WOrks for me so I hope it helps others. Codfather
  7. Hi all The book I think David was talking about is called "Where to Launch Around the Coast" - A launching guide by Diana van der Klugt Cost
  8. Did a check with the boat on the drive today. The EGNOS signal put the position of the boat 0.001 differance. This could be the receiver ariel being slightly to one side of each other. Another question? Do you guys leave the GPS or Chartpotters on Magnetic or True? If you use Admaral charts they give locations in True so what is the best way? Cod

    Boat HPI Check

Hi Adam I was thinking along the same lines as you about the Shambles trip. Thanks for the invite. I would love to come along but I need to make sure the FPO is in agreement My in-laws live near Dorchester so it might be a good tactical move At least if the sea is too rough to go far there is always Portland harbour. There has been a ban put on diving on the Hood, not sure how long or why but means you can get near it at the moment. Cod

    Anti foul??

Hi Adam Can I suggets you get a high pressure jet wash and try to remove the anti-foul this way before using any sort of rough stuff. This way if it comes off you have not damaged the gel coat. Regards Cod

    Boat HPI Check

Hi Adam One tip that was given to me about the rod rest/bait table bar if it has one. When traveling out to sea or back have a bungee cord wrapped around it as the inserts of the legs are not that long and can jump out as you jump over the swell. When trailering it ALWAYS have it out of its position. They are not cheap to replace. Good luck on Thursday Regards Cod
  12. Hi Shytalk I would love a T bar, just let me know how much and where to send some money and it will be in the post. Just need the fish to try it out
  13. Hi My point is can we use this new information or is it best to use the standard GPS signals. I am fortunate in that I have still my old GPS unit installed so I suppose I can use both and see if they provide the coordinates. I will try that out on Sunday with the boat on the drive and report back. Thanks for the link Paul, I will keep am eye on it over the comming month Regards Cod
  14. Hi all I checked out my chartplotter the other day to see if it would work on EGNOS and it located a number os satalites. I found a web page saying that they were testing the system and should be switching it on in April 2004. I am no electronics expert by any means but it seems they have been using a different mode for testing. Does anyone understand this system and can advise accordingly. Web page I found was http://www.pocketgps.co.uk/egnos.php Regards Codfather

    Boat HPI Check

Hi Adam Good news then If the previous owner was the original owner, Warrior keep records so it might be worth a phone call to them. You can get an HPI check on any item but not sure whee you would start, except a search on the internet. If you have a credit card and you are buying from a dealer, can you pay by card? This gives you extra protection. Good luck and hope all goes well foor you. We just need some decent weather to get out and play. Regards Cod
  16. Hi Adam Sorry you have been unable to find the right boat. Regarding engines, how about an ex- RNLI marina? Often little use, maintained at whatever cost. Don't know if they do 4 strokes however. Might be worth a call to Barrus in Bicester, Oxfordshire. Just a thought, have you thought about a Seahog Samuri? For about
  17. Hi all it's me again!! If you want to check what the sea conditions are like check this site http://www.chimet.co.uk/default.shtm It is at Chicester Bar but it is only 5 miles away or so. This guage is on the actual bar and gives real time information. Regards Cod

    Radar Reflectors

Hi all, I found out the artical which carried out the tests. It was "Motor Boats Monthly" July 2001, a copy of which can be purchased for

  20. Hi all Where are you going to launch from? Weymouth harbour is good but car parking is ****! Has anyone tried Preston end where the jet skiers go? I know one of the launch sites at Portland you have to let the boat yard launch you. Regards Cod

    Radar Reflectors

Hi Bob I think the PBO artical was early last year. As some of you may know I belong to the Internet Angling Club and we are having a 2 day fish in over the Witsun week-end in May. A number of boats have radar reflectors of differant sorts and I know of one boat who has a radar so we will hopefully do some checks when out and about. It seems most reports are based on yachts, who of course have a big metal stick thing to which they hang their sheets on for the wind to dry them. These metal sticks do help a lot to be picked up on a radar screen. It is also worth looking at what the charter boys use on their boats. I have seen a number of differant versions, of course the majority of charter boats are GRP they to suffer the same problems as us. Regards Cod
  22. Hi all I too was surfing and came across the Coastguard's web site. Just a thought, how many of your members have registered their boat with the Coastguards? Check this web page out and you can complete a form on line if you wish or post it to the Coastguards. http://www.mcga.gov.uk/c4mca/mcga-hmcg/mcga-hmcg-cg66.htm It is the CG66 form, which, should the worse ever happen, the rescue services can determin what boat it is they have found. Radar Reflectors

Hi all I am sorry but I have to disagree with Bob, regarding the effectivness of the "tube" type reflectors. In fact following a number of tests both here and in the USA they have found that they are one of the least effective. In fact old octahedrals came out the best. see a good report of reflectors http://www.ussailing.org/safety/Studies/ra...lector_test.htm The Practical Boat Owners mag did a similar test and came up with similar results. In fact they had to repeat the test as many of their advertisers were suppliers of radar reflectors and they were about to slate their products! I was going to buy one of those tube reflectors but I am going to get one of the octahedral type and mount it on a shower rail to gain some hieght, the important bit is the angle of the reflector to get most effectiveness out of it. <off my soap box now>

    Flare Kits

Hi Bob Our club boats all carry flares. Last year I cleared out the old flars as some were 20+ years out of date!!!! I contacted the local coastguard and they accepted them for disposal. In all we had 26 flares that were well out of date. I hate to think what would have happened if some of the older ones went off when out at sea in the cuddy. Some were quite rusty. Regards

    MOB!!!!!!!!

Hi all Some interesting thoughts and points. Just to add another question do all of your crew who you take out know how to call on the VHF in an emergency? Do they know the correct Mayday call procedure? It could be you, the skipper, who has fallen overboard or ill. I have produced a Mayday instruction sheet which can be printed or downloaded from my web site. The downloaded versions can have your boat name added in the spaces and then get the sheet laminated to make it waterproof. They are in Excel and Word format. I carry my sheet with all the maps and other bits in a holder and if I have anyone new on the boat I show them where it is, how to read the GPS to get the current position and how to operate the radio to get it on channel 16. It only takes a few minutes and could save a life. Web address http://fishing_boats.tripod.com and look under the "Safety" page.
