Well done Lofty You have beaten me (not hard I know) but after 7 years living in Dorset I have yet to still catch a Cod on the South Coast! Well done mate Dave

I don't think it matters that much as most raggies don't keep a look out or don't know what a black ball means! ( he says in jest ) How many yachts do you see with the motor cone up? Perhaps it is because if they show one, it means they get treated as a normal motor craft even if they have sails up! Seriously, I would try to mount it on the cabin roof if you can, as Mike says a broom handle in a rod holder is a good method. Dave

From 1 April each time a boat owner buys red diesel he/she must declare that the fuel will only be used in UK waters. British sailors with tax-reduced dyed diesel in their tanks have previously been hit with on-the-spot fines of up to

I would like to thank Alan for the trip out Sunday. Managed to catch a Ray for the comp all 12ozs of an Undulate Ray! Note the sucker worm which had attached itself to the fish! Still a fish is a fish! Thanks again Alan for the trip. We had a good number of species on the boat during the day shame we could not add to Alan's impressive total. Dave

Hi Rich Welcome to the club I am the Safety Officer in the club and if you need any training courses or advice just ask. We do recommend that you get your boat checked with a Sea Safety Check by the RNLI which is free. There is no pass of fail just helpful advice given to help you should the need every arise if you get a problem. Oh by the way I too have a 535 but can't get it out as I have changed my car to one without a tow bar so it has been stuck on the drive since spring! If you need anything just ask and I am sure you will get plenty of help, some useful some not so! Dave

I was advised to use a similar set up as for Black Bream ................ then again I have yet to catch a Trigger! Dave

Sounds like the downward spiral to me. Good luck on your hunt for a suitable craft. I can hear the grief from the FPO from here! Dave

Hi Gordon I can organise most RYA courses VHF, Sea Survival, Day Skipper, Powerboat Level 2 (and upwards), Desiel engine maintainance, etc. etc. Have a look under Safety Training and if there is anything you or your family/crew would like just make a posting or PM me and I will see what I can arrange. Many people do course during the colder months, January to March when fishing is not at its best so get ready for the "summer" tips out. If you wish to have a Sea Safety Check, I suggest you contact Mike Fox or the RNLI Sea Check Safety Officer, both of which are club members, who will put you in contact with the right people or alternativly drop an email to the RNLI who will respond to you directly. Hope to see you at the next meeting or out on the water. Dave

Hi Gordon Yes it's me Dave Samuel the Safety Officer of the club. Firstly welcome to the best fishing club in the South if not the UK! Secondly I would agree with everyone else you need to join in with the club to get the most out of it. There are some marks on the "Club Members Only section" which are general areas to help you get started but it is really down to finding a likely spot and trying it out or follows the crowds. Regarding Safety I would strongly recommend an RNLI Sea Safety Check, which is free, and they come to you when it's best for you. The guys and gals carry out simple checks and ask you about your craft so they get an understanding of what you expect from the craft. As Rob said it is not a test to see what you have or don't have and they will normally make suggestions on areas that might be useful to you or might help if there was an emergency. All of this is FREE OF CHARGE and you don't have to accept there suggestions. There is no Pass or Fail but they do give you a list of what they recommend should you need it. At the end of the day it is helping you to help yourself should an emergency arise whilst at sea. We even have Sea Check people in the club so it could not be easier. Enough of the preaching time to get fishing safely. As a club member I help organise training courses so should you be looking for a course or two let me know and I will try to arrange something at a special club members discounted rate. :-) Stay safe Dave

Hi all I have only just been given the following information: Have YOUR say on two bridge road system Poole council have arranged for members of the public to attend three drop in sessions on Friday 7th September to give their views on Poole's two bridge system. The informal drop-in sessions at the Civic Centre, Poole will give people the opportunity to find out more about the road system around Poole Bridge and the Twin Sails Bridge and speak to the council's appointed independent expert witness Phil Jones and Andy Ward. Mr Jones, who has extensive expertise in traffic analysis and transport planning, has been appointed to review the road system around Poole Bridge and Twin Sails Bridge and inform a select committee that will meet towards the end of September. The findings from this review will also feed into a separate review of the council's Central Area Planning Guidance which is currently taking place. The Civic Centre drop-in sessions on 7th September will take place at: 10.30am to 12pm 2pm to 3.30pm 5pm to 6.30pm These sessions are designed to collect information and views from members of the public. They will not be chaired or discussions. Documents and information relating to the review will also be available to view after the event from Monday 10th September in the Planning reception of the Civic Centre during normal opening hours. Welcome to the club Malcolm You may or may not know we have a club meeting this Thursday evening and I am sure you will be made most welcome. It starts at 8pm at the Trades and Labour Club in Ashley Road, Parkstone (next door to the Esso garage). It is also a good place and time to get to know some of the club members who keep thier boat at Cobbs. To help you start finding your own marks we have a number of referance locations for new members look here http://www.pbsbac.co.uk/forums/index.php?showtopic=5646 Can I suggest that whilst your new baot is out you have a FREE RNLI SEA CHECK. This is a great service and they give you some practical advice about stayng safe on the water. There is no pass or fail situation just advice. Enjoy being a club member and remember you get out of the club what you put in. Dave

Nice report and pictures as usual, well done. Out of interest your fishfinder shows up well, I see it is a Hummingbird but which model? Dave
-
Hi James Well done to Ben on some super fish. PLEASE send in his catch reports to the Wessex Angling Trust in the junior comp as it would be great to see if he could become one of the junior winners. Link here to the form and info http://www.anglingtrustwessex.co.uk/cgi-bin/download.cgi Where it asked for certified scales weight just say it was caught and released on the boat. Dave

Jim Be carefull if you go for a Plough anchor as they can be finger traps! Also steer clear of Danforth's, good on mud but not a lot else. You could always look at the Fishermans anchor as the cross piece normally is moveable so it will lie flat, you will need to weld a fixing point at the bottom of the shank to attach the chain and trip it with a cable tie at the top as normal. Dave

Hi Jim If you can locate one I would go for a Delta anchor, I have a 4Kg model on my Shetland (17ft) and it holds a treat. I know they can be a bit more costly but they do work every time and easy to arrange a tripping set-up. The RNLI use them on their Atlantics and D class inflatables so they must be good! Bruce copies are ok but I have found they don't always hold first time, probably because they are copies, if I recall the original Bruce company has stopped making them or gone out of business. 2Kg might be a tad light. Dave
