  1. There has been a revised timetable of both lifting bridges in Poole for Week Days only The latest timetable is until 30th September 2012 A link to the timetable is here http://www.phc.co.uk/downloads/notices_mar...30TH%20SEPT.pdf Dave
  2. A lot depends on your ISP and the number of people using the net. Also I should think there are a number of faults being sorted due to the flooding we are having! Dave
  3. Stonking fish James, well done! Dave

  5. The Quay is not part of the harbour ..... Tomo http://www.sembcorpbw.co.uk/net-control/us...arbour_2012.pdf If you read the darkest depths of the Magna Carta ? Any tidal water is classed as part of the sea ! Christchurch Harbour, is tidal as far as Iford Bridge ! Which begs the question, what legal right do SEMBCORP and RDAA have to impose charges for fishing in tidal waters ? Especially below the emergence of the river Avon at Clay Pool. As far as I am aware this has never been challenged in any court. Comments in due course please, Dave I think that if you check you will find that the harbour was sold by the Crown... along with all its rights..... so the crown does not own the foreshore......There are only two river estuaries in the country that this applies to ....the other I believe is the River Beaulieu where Henry V111 had a number of his warships built... and again it was sold as being originally owned by the monks.....so you have no rights to access the foreshore between low water which is not the case with the rest of the country's tidal foreshore........ Not a lot of people know that.......so don't waste your hard earned challenging it Tomo The Crown and the Monks never owned it in the first place, they stole it or just put their names to it. I stand to be corrected but as far as I am aware the reference point is Hgh Water ? All that aside, do the same rules apply to fishing from a boat ? and are they enforceable ? D I was once told I had my boat and myself photo taken as I was trolling for Mullet I just hope the photo was good as I asked why I was told I was fishing for salmon or trout! I said can you see any in the baot and where were the notices, I was then told I should ask about what I can or can not fish for. I then told him to take a long walk off a short pier! He went away muttering something! Dave
  6. Happy Birthday Bill Hope you had a good day, on holiday as well Dave
  7. Hi Alex I would think a lot depends on where the mooring is hoped to be, i.e. in river, harbour etc.etc. as tides as depth of water, fresh or salt water and type of bottom you will be experiancing and also will it be a swinging or trot mooring? I personaly would suggest a concrete block with a ring embeded in the concrete so you can add some heavy duty chain attached to a mooring buoy. This might give you an idea http://www.williamhackett.co.uk/products/c...ring-assemblies or here http://www.jamestowndistributors.com/userp...rmanent+Mooring Also check your insurance policy - they might not take too kindly to "home-made" moorings. Dave
  8. The wife and I went over to Jersey on Condor Express at Poole in the early hours of Friday morning. We kept checking the ferry site for cancellations due to weather conditions but no it was going to sail albeit 1/2hr late. Off we went and the harbour was calm, for a ferry, but the wind was blowing hard. Got out just by Old Harry and the sea state started to roll the boat, I noticed it was wind against tide. A number of people had settled into an early breakfeast! I thought to myself, I bet most of that will re-appear, I knew I should have shares in on-board catering! By the time we had cleared land the sea had some impressive swells and many people including some of the crew were not well. The vomit comet lived up to it's name! You could hear bottles in the duty free crashing etc and it was a job to walk about without holding on. Passing Alderney it seemed worse for a while but comming into Guernsey it was all much calmer. The journey from Guernsey to Jersey was not quite so bad but still bouncy. Coming home was a lot better and we were in a different boat which cruised most of the time at 40mph! With the wind and tide with us this time it was much smoother. Glad we did not go Thursday as it had to transfer passengers to the slow boat in Gurnsey, there were a nuber of people hurt and cars damaged in the 4m swell! Got to the car park and the pay machine was not working so we all got a free days parking! Good day out though but a long day, cost us

  11. Hi Mike Here is the ruling of weighing fish and a few others: WEIGHING To Qualify for the Principal Awards and Certificates of Merit-  All fish must be weighed on land on scales, steelyards or spring balances.  All weighing must be certified in writing by an official of a recognised Angling Club, and two witnesses.  All weighing equipment must carry a current certificate of test. Failure to comply with any of these requirements will render the registration null and void. Certificates of Test are obtainable from the Department of Weights and Measures. A copy of this certificate must be sent to the Hon. Fish Recorder with a club or association's first registration made in any one year. All weighing equipment must be tested every 5 years and carry a current certificate of test. However in the interests of conservation, the weight in lbs of the species Tope and Shark, may be calculated using the following formula - Girth x Girth x Length divided by 800. all measurements should be taken in ins. The girth is measured at widest part of the fish, and the length, for the purposes of these formulae only, from tip of nose to the fork in the tail. Tables of the formula are available on request from the Angling Trust, as is a formula for calculating the weight of the common skate. Weighing at Sea -In addition, provided the registration form so indicates, fish weighed at sea will be accepted, but any certificates awarded will clearly indicate that the weight of the fish was estimated and the fish returned alive to the sea. FISHING RULES The following Angling Trust Marine Festival and Competition Rules No11 apply to this Competition and all competitors must abide by them:- Rule B2,3 & S2 - as to tackle with the exception that not more than two rods with three single hooks or two pennel mounted baits between the two rods may be used. Only one pennel mounted bait is allowed on each rod and so constructed that the measurement between the eyes of the two hooks do not exceed :- 20cm for boat angling & 10 cm" for shore angling. LIMIT OF WATERS Only fish caught in the coastal waters of England (including the Channel Islands), Scotland, Wales and Ireland are eligible. [see also Rule 9 (v)]. A boat angling trip is normally of one day or 24 hrs duration, but if in the course of a trip, whether it be of one day or more, the boat puts into a port which is situated geographically in a different Specimen Area, then that port becomes the port of departure for the remainder of the fishing trip and the specimen weights of that port will be implemented. If for whatever reason the boat puts into a foreign port for which there are no Specimen Area Weights, then the Specimen Weights of the original port of departure will apply. I have attached the registration form below. It is a MS Word document Dave

  18. At Junes Club meeting I advised the members present about this oppertunity for EVERYONE as a stakeholder to have your say at these consultation meetings. Please find dates below for the stake holder consultation Workshops venues and dates. Some ideas such as a minimum distance from the shore for static gear such as gill, trammel nets and pots. Background At present it is legal for commercial fishing to put nets as close to the shore as they, like or even non commercial netting if they say the fish are for personal consumption. There are no legal requirements to set a net a minimum distance from the shore they can even be set from the shore. what do you think ? Do you think that the minimum size for Bass or any other fish need to change ? Do you think that pump scoop dredges and any other such as Scallop or Oyster Dredges cause damage to the habitats in estuarine environments. STAKEHOLDER CONSULTATION WORKSHOPS Southern Inshore Fisheries and Conservation Authority (IFCA) is tasked with the sustainable management of inshore sea fisheries resources in Dorset, Hampshire and the Isle of Wight areas. Southern IFCA is currently undertaking a review of all byelaws and will be holding a series of drop in workshop sessions to give all stakeholders the opportunity to input into the byelaw review process and also to provide more information on the role of the IFCA. Stakeholders will have the opportunity to comment on all aspects of management at these sessions, although there will be a particular emphasis on the following byelaws: Minimum sizes; Cockles; A new clam byelaw; Vessels used in fishing; Berried lobsters; Redeposit of shellfish; Electric current; Temporary closure of shellfish beds; Oysters, clams and mussels; Carriage of oysters; Seagrass protection. Sessions will be held at the following locations between 1600 and 2000:

  22. Hi Stuie Some engine manufactures do suggest flushing the engine through the tell tale outlet, but don't run the engine as the impellor will not be covered in water! I would suggest you run on muffs or in a barrel to allow the engine to warm up and open the stat to get all waterways flushed. Dave
