Congrats on the new boat Jim How can you leave it so long without giving her a try??? I would be having a day off at least to try her out and get some hours on the engine so I could see how she went! Good hunting when you do get out Dave

HAPPY BIRTHDAY LOFTY Hope you are having a great time in London! Dave

Brian Enforcement will be down to IFCA (ex Southern Sea Fisheries Officers) staff. They will ask if you are fishing for yourself and if so weigh the amount of worms you have dug. If you are a commercial then you will need to produce your permit there and then. If unable to do so I suspect you would be reported and details taken and any worms retained. This is how I think it will operate, but I have been known to be wrong sometimes! Dave

Hi everyone The Wessex Division of Angling Trust is about to do battle (consultation) to try to save areas which will allow bait digging in the Wessex region. If we lose this battle to some of the "conservation" groups not only will those who dig bait for themselves but possibly the commercial diggers as well who supply the local angling shops! Where would we get bait from? Some might say get it from those who drag for bait on boats, but this is being looked at as well so don't think there will always be that option available. What is being proposed by Wessex AT is that there is a maximum of 3lbs of rag worm per day per personal angler. Commercial diggers will require a permit/licence to dig for commercial volumes. This will ensure there is bait available to those who cannot dig their own and those who do can continue albeit with some restrictions. It is felt that by allowing a maximum of 3lb of worm should be more than enough for an individual angler on a single day at any time. This would then allow those who will have the powers to enforce such rules to check any bait digger is not exceeding the limit set. If it is a commercial digger then he/she would have to produce their permit. It would also stop "gangs" of diggers coming down to the local areas and devastating the local stocks of worms. It would be easy to say not in my lifetime but Natural England have other ideas, do we stay at the party or just say no and walk away and forget about comments about Magna Carter, the Marine Bill did that! Your thoughts would be appreciated on this as there are some on this special committee who are looking for the anglers thoughts and support for the above proposal via this forum. Dave

All seems to be sorted now (fingers crossed) Dave

Hi all thanks for the advice Managed to open a trade account with a plumbers merchant, not great prices but they had one in stock and collected it there and then. Now fitted and working despite a broken gate valve and an air lock! Working in the loft was rather warm to say the least. Dave

I am sure if Lofty was about he would respond but being in Spain on hols he may be relaxing in the sun. There is a Kayak place near you Jim, I cant recall what it's called but its on the industrial estate on the left going towards Upton just past Kings Volvo's. Get him to look on Aglers Afloat forum as I am sure there will be loads of people willing to help. http://www.anglersafloat.co.uk/Getting-Started.html Hope it helps Dave

Night Rider You never know it might be the time you manage to get out! ps don't forget to change your boat details on your avitor Dave

What you have to remmeber is calling the boat over the radio. If it is a mouthful it can be hard to hear and if you have to spell the name using the phonetic alphabet it all gets a bit long winded. If it is an emergency will you have time? Just a thought Good to hear your back on the water again John. Dave

Better hug a tree whilst there are still some around! Dave

SOUTH COAST ANNOUNCED AS NEXT AREA FOR MARINE PLAN
Coddy replied to Member Removed's topic in Conservation Issues
Having had a quick look on the suggested site, I would hope that they take a long hard look at the data that has been provided by the MCZ project by Balaced Sea and Finding Sanctuary before spending more taxpayers money to get similar results. I am not usually sceptical but I am begining to think that by the time all these projects, ideas and initiatives get started it will be too late for our fish stocks and the state of our hobby. Dave -
Done again Dave

Have a look at Trickett Marine for electric trim tabs. Saves all that horible oily stuff Dave

I suspect it was the sampling of the wine which was the problem! Dave

Allan asked if I fancied a trip out on Kind of Magic and with the summer sun out it would have been rude to refuse. Left Cobbs around 08.30am and decided to head East so we had the tide with us. First stop Lobster Rock to see if we could bag some fresh mackerel but no only scad. Moved to the patch but again no mackerel! So sod it lets make our way to Christchurch Ledge and see if we can get amoungst all these specimen fish Loads of boats under the Coastguard watch hut at Hegisberry but we carried on to the ledge. Found a likly spot and dropped the pick, tide was still ripping through even though there was less than hour or so before high tide. Managed to bag a couple of Bream and Alan was into wrasse. At slack we decided to move inshore under the Coastgaurd hut to see if we could manage a makerel or two, nothing!! Loads of small bites but nothing apart from pout. Time to head towards Southbourne, trying the odd mark on the way but nothing of interest. For the final drift of the day we stopped East of Southbourne pier looking to carry out a long drift. Somehow both of us got our lines tangled on a pot buoy rope and before I had noticed my new rod, reel and the rod holder, which snapped, was over the side of the boat! After a quick wind up of other rods, we headed back to the spot where this all happened and I suggested to Allan that I go up front and see if the line, rod & reel was still attached to the rope. It was! After struggleing to pull the rope up I could see the line caught and managed to get the boat hook around the line and gently pull it up. Slowly I pullled in the line to find my rod & reel on the other end! I even got my trace and lead back and found Allan's lost snood and hook with bait! At that point I had enough and we headed back to Poole with the hoards. I am really thinking it may be time to get some sort of driving licence/ability test to be carried out by everyone who is in command of a craft! Rules of the road in a channel must be one of the first things to be tested on. We had some fish but no new species for Allan's list today, I suspect you need to watch this space to see if he can get some more. Thanks Allan for a nice interesting day out. Dave

Hi all I have had this sent to me to pass onto everyone. Dave -------------------------------------------------------------- Dear Stakeholder, Submission of Marine Conservation Zone advice package We are delighted to inform you that Natural England and JNCC have submitted our formal advice to Defra on Marine Conservation Zones (MCZ). This advice is an assessment of the science behind the MCZ recommendations made by four regional MCZ projects in September 2011, the quality of the ecological data and our views on the overall regional MCZ Project process. We would like to acknowledge the significant amount of time and energy dedicated by stakeholders and the regional project teams in producing the regional MCZ project recommendations. The stakeholder approach has added considerable value and support to the recommended MCZs. On the whole Natural England and JNCC commend the process and support the recommendations made by the regional MCZ projects, subject to some additional suggestions proposed in the advice. We have advised that overall the recommendations submitted by the regional MCZ projects, when combined with the contribution of existing MPAs, have met many of the network design principles and have minimized where possible, the impact on socio-economic interests. This represents good progress towards the achievement of an ecologically coherent Marine Protected Area network. Our advice has been comprehensively checked and quality assured through our internal systems, reviewed by an independent expert review group commissioned by Defra, and finally reviewed and signed-off by our respective independent non-executive boards. Our assessments followed published peer-reviewed protocols and used the best evidence available at the time. With the delivery of the formal advice from Natural England and JNCC, Defra will continue evaluating all the evidence in preparing for the public consultation in December 2012. This will include the formal advice, the regional project site recommendations, the impact assessment material and information from the

Hi Johney When I sold my boat I had to deliver it to Yarmouth. Never sailed into there before but it was easy. Simple entering the marina as it shows where there are some berths for visitors. Closest is near where the RNLI Lifeboat is moored. Check with the harbour master that where you have moored is ok. Just keep clear or wait until the Lymington - Yarmouth ferry is out, keeps things simple. I would suggest launching from Lymington as it is an easy run across the Solent just keep an eye out for yachts and high speed power boats, some don't know the rules of the road! Dave
