    Hello

Hi and welcome to the forum I am sure you will soon feel at home and join in the batter. Ask away any questions, which may seem silly or otherwise as we all have to start somewhere and we all continue to learn new tricks and proceedures. Were do you intend to launch from? Poole, Christchurch/Mudeford? In both locations you need to be of some of the hazzards, tides etc. I am sure you will get some good advice so dive in and enjoy. Hope to see you out on the water sometime, what boat do you have? We use channel 6 on the VHF when out and about so you can always call out for any PBSBAC members to meet up or chat to. Dave
  3. Hi Jamie I would suggest that the Abu 7000i CS Pro Rocket is really suited to the beach and casting comps. I would suggest a Shamarno TLD15 reel, this does not have a level wind if that is important to you. I personally prefer Penn reels as so far they have never let me down and spares are normally available. Rods are again a personal choice, but I would suggest a 12-20lb class downtide rod approx 7ft long. Shorter rods tend to get called "stand up" rods. I would add a heavery class rod of about 30-50lb again of similar length for deep water fishing with heavy leads. I have just got a 6lb rod and find it great fun to catch fish on, you feel everything but of course you can't use it with heavy weights. Good for bream and I suspect Bass if I every got near one! I also like uptiding which is a longer rod of about 9ft 6" to 10ft If you like spinning/lures then you will need another rod! It then is a case of match heavy medium or light reels to the rods and also the beaking strain of line on the spool. Seems like you will have a good list ready for Xmas! Dave
  4. I have to say you rarely see any secondhand ETEC's for sale which I suppose it means the owners are happy with them or they get snapped up before they hit the open market. Suzuki & Yamaha have done some major upgrades but I suppose it depends where you intend to keep your boat and how near (and good) the local service agent is for the various makes you have listed. No point getting an engine when you can't get warranty work/servicing done locally. All marine engine parts are costly, except Seagulls, but then they are a tad old these days! Just my thoughts Dave

  7. Good to hear it is not a major repair job. Dave
  8. Alan & I went to a number of locations trying for flatfish & rays. Alan managed to pull in a nice Turbot 0f 3lb 3oz and I managed to increase my boat species, which is difficult as this was only the third time out! Red and tub gurnard, black bream, doggies, mackerel & Bass No rays for us except some super sun rays! Dave
  9. Mike I would agree with duncan that a partial blockage in the injector side of delivery. Have the injectors been cleaned/checked for spray patten? I know that you use the engine quite often but depends on hours used for injector checks. Might be worth adding injector cleaner to the fuel, some poh poh the stuff but I found it to work both in a 4x4 and my old Romany. Also may be woth adding a small amount of 2-stroke oil to the fuel, this not only lubricates wherever the fuel goes but also quietens down injector pumps and can slightly improve performance. Add 2oz of 2 stroke oil to each 20 gal of diesel. This is quite a common practice and does no harm to pump or injectors. May be worth replacing the fuel filters as well and going for a finer filter if poss. Perhaps when you had tank issues bits may well be getting through the system. Dave

  20. Hi all I have just received this link from Wessex Angling Trust http://www.anglingtrust.net/news.asp?itemi...ctionTitle=News This is on AT's web site in which Cefas have issued a new Question and Answer document addressing anglers' concerns raised over the Sea Angling 2012 data collection project. The Q&As are intended to help anglers make an informed decision about contributing to the project, based on a clear and balanced understanding of the project and its intended outcomes. I have to admit I have not read it yet and reserve judgement until I do so. Dave

    Re engining?

A lot of people would suggest the Evenrude ETEC with its 3 year before needing a service warranty. They are also a bit lighter than the equiverlant 4-stroke Most moden engines these days are good, it is the after sales that I would suggest you look at, who can service it, where and costs. Good hunting Dave
  25. Congrats Tom & Abbie Hope you have a great life together. Dave
