  1. Those of you who like a comp in a Kayak have a look on the new Angling Trust's Wessex Division web site. http://www.anglingtrustwessex.co.uk/ then click on competitions tab. There is a AT kayak comp on 17th & 18th September at Christchurch The target fish will be Bass & Thick Lipped Mullet on a catch & release basis (photo's of course) I thought you Kayakers may be interested. Dave
  2. Been there done it and lost the T-shirt! The problem is with all boats, the bigger it gets so the costs rise disproportionally Depending how far you wish to travel I would suggest 21 - 25ft is a good size, larger and it can be a problem to handle single handed. You are then faced with the hull shape, with what you propose I would suspect something along the lines of the Aquafish or similar. You could also look at the QuickSilver 630 similar to Wishin & Abode II Good luck in your quest but believe me you will always want to go bigger! Re legs, Volvo are expensive if they go wrong but have been around a long time. Engines I have only known Ford which are good plodders but can be noisy. Dave

    HELL

Hell The following is supposedly an actual question given on a University of Washington chemistry mid-term. The answer by one student was so "profound" that the professor shared it with colleagues, via the Internet, which is, of course, why we now have the pleasure of enjoying it as well. Bonus Question: Is Hell exothermic (gives off heat) or endothermic (absorbs heat)? Most of the students wrote proofs of their beliefs using Boyle's Law (gas cools when it expands and heats when it is compressed) or some variant. One student, however, wrote the following: First, we need to know how the mass of Hell is changing in time. So we need to know the rate at which souls are moving into Hell and the rate at which they are leaving. I think that we can safely assume that once a soul gets to Hell, it will not leave. Therefore, no souls are leaving. As for how many souls are entering Hell, let's look at the different Religions that exist in the world today. Most of these religions state that if you are not a member of their religion, you will go to Hell. Since there is more than one of these religions and since people do not belong to more than one religion, we can project that all souls go to Hell. With birth and death rates as they are, we can expect the number of souls in Hell to increase exponentially. Now, we look at the rate of change of the volume in Hell because Boyle's Law states that in order for the temperature and pressure in Hell to stay the same, the volume of Hell has to expand proportionately as souls are added. This gives two possibilities: 1. If Hell is expanding at a slower rate than the rate at which souls enter Hell, then the temperature and pressure in Hell will increase until all Hell breaks loose. 2. If Hell is expanding at a rate faster than the increase of souls in Hell, then the temperature and pressure will drop until Hell freezes over. So which is it? If we accept the postulate given to me by Teresa during my Freshman year that, "it will be a cold day in Hell before I sleep with you, and take into account the fact that I slept with her last night, then number 2 must be true, and thus I am sure that Hell is exothermic and has already frozen over. The corollary of this theory is that since Hell has frozen over, it follows that it is not accepting any more souls and is therefore, extinct...leaving only Heaven thereby proving the existence of a divine being which explains why, last night, Teresa kept shouting "Oh my God." THIS STUDENT RECEIVED THE ONLY "A"
  4. Hi Dan Use the KISS system (Keep It Simple Stupid) 1/ Connect fuel line to tank, will the prime bulb pump hard? If Yes go to 2 if no suspect tank pick up pipe or non-return valve in prime pump 2/ If you push the ball inwards on the fuel line connect that connects to the engine do you get fuel come out? If yes go to 3, if no go back to 1 and try again 3/ Remove fuel filter and check if clear if yes go to 4, if no clean it out & make sure fuel reaches filter. 4/ Disconnet fuel line from fuel pump on engine to carbs, do you get fuel through? If yes go to 5, if no suspect problem with fuel pump or/and fuel line blockage. Clean and try 4 again 5/ If pumping fuel to carbs suspect fuel shut off valve via float is incorrectly set or blocked Remove carbs and thoroughly clean out carbs, fuel valve and check settings for fuel shut off height. You will need a manual for this info. By now you should have fuel getting through to the carbs using hand prime bulb, you could try disconnecting plug leads so the engine will not start or use dead-man lanyard/switch and try to start engine with fuel line from engine pump to carbs disconnected. When trying to start engine the fuel pump should pump fuel out of the fuel line. If not you may have a problem with the diaphragm in the pump or it is just knackered. Hope the above helps. Dave
  5. Hi Jim Normally for every inch reduced on the pitch = approx 200rpm With your set up it seems you are down 1200 rpm which seems a lot. Suggest you have a word with these people Propeller Solutions, Unit 18, Bridge Street, Bailie Gate Industrial Estate, Sturminster Marshall, Dorset, BH21 4DB Telephone: 01258 858784 They are very helpful and will advise you the best solution to get max power and minimal fuel usage You will need a bit of boat info when talking to them, like length of boat waterline, approx weight when using it with full fuel, fishing gear and crew. Existing prop size Hope this starts to help Dave
  6. Hi Jamie Good to see you signed up on the forum. I take it you are still struggling for speed. Give me a call sometime and we will see what can be done. Dave
  7. I suspect that there is oil residue left in the tank, carbs and fuel pipework. Suggest a good clean out with fresh neat petrol and re-assemble. I think the main problem is oil in the running jets so the carbs need most attention. Dave
  8. Here is your chance to take part in a survey about sea angling by the Marine Managment Organisation. The Marine Management Organisation (MMO) has been established to make a significant contribution to sustainable development in the marine area and to promote the UK government

  12. The only problem with slow redraw is when it is foggy and you are going slowly especially in the harbour! It can easily mislead you, I know radar helps as does compass heading but it might be worth thinking about if upgrading anyway. Dave

    HDS 5

On most plotters I have used, using the curser will stop all scrolling, have to press escape button to get back to your actual position and a scrolling chart. Have a look on page 40 of the user manual to see what I mean Dave
  14. Hi all I was asked for clarification about fishing in Poole harbour, during my investigations discovered that apart from the minimum size rule, you are allowed to catch Bass from the shore in the nursery area, which I did not know. The restriction applys to fishing from a boat. I also admit I was not aware that it is illegal to fish from any boat, however it is propelled, using sand-eels as bait to attract any sea fish. Just thought I would mention it in case anyone was not clear about the rules like me. Dave
  15. Those of you who collect Tesco points, every couple of months or so Tesco convert the points into vouchers and send them to your home. You can then spend these vochers on various things. For the boat show go here http://www.tesco.com/clubcard/deals/product.aspx?R=2004 Complete the order on line with the voucher numbers to a value of

  20. Hi Shanew I know Priory Marina well as I use to live at Sandy! That is a long way to tow your boat, I used to go to Felixstowe Ferry or Langstone and launch. still 100 mls+ however. Hope you get things sorted out ok. Dave
  21. I don't think anyone will join you for this trip! Have a good time Dave
  22. Hi Suggest you strip down carbs & filters and cleean. Sounds like the main jet could be (part) blocked as when load is applied it requires more fuel to run and if it can't get enough it will stop. Depends how long it has been sitting since last usage. Hope it helps Dave
  23. Is that the reason there are no Cod pictures? Too foggy!! now that's the best excuse I have heard for ages! Look forward to see the other pictures Dave
  24. Hi all I have 50 Wessex Angling Trust's tide tables for 2011 available I know we are 1/2 way through the year but these are at 1/2 price, 50p each, which has to be a bargain. So if you would like a copy see me at the club meeting or drop me a PM Dave
