  3. I would think Bob or Adam would be best to answer this as they have been fitting out their new boat and Bob is bit of an expert on electrics. I too would be interested in the reply as I think I have a split charge system but I think I have a problem with mine but not had time to check it out properly yet. Coddy

    Horns

Hi all Following a discussion at the club meeting over radar reflectors I was wondering about horns or hooters on boats. I use a canister of compressed air, hand held type but have been thinking of an electric version permanently mounted. I feel horns are just as important as radar reflectors to attract attention or to warn others. I was wondering what other members use? Is electric the way to go or do they get corroded up with the salty atmosphere? Anyone have any thoughts? Coddy

    ICOM VHF

Thanks Rich I think I have found the problem as I did not think about connecting the radio up to a 2nd ariel I have mounted. The radio now works ok so I will have to get another one. Coddy
  6. Hi all Incase anyone has not been onto the NFSA web site recently here are a few links NFSA site http://www.nfsa.org.uk/ they have a new forum here as well. Wessex Division has it's own web site http://www.wessexseaanglers.org.uk This is our local NFSA division and it has some good pointers of where to fish both shore and boat along the coast from Hayling Isand to Weymouth Coddy

    ICOM VHF

Hi all I think I have a problem with my vhf as I can hear everyone but I don't seem to transmit anything. The TX indicator lights up on the facia but nothing seems to go out. Does anyone know where to get radios checked out/repaired? Thanks Coddy
  8. Due to the number of postpond comps, could someone please post the revised dates for comps on the calendar or on a posting please? I need to mark up the dates on the calendar at home so that the FPO can't book anything then! Thanks Coddy
  9. Hi all, Well managed a quick run out on Lady C on Sunday, my son Jamie and I went out for a quick run to see how she went after cleaning her bum and fitting a new raw water pump. Once out of the harbour speed restrictions I opened her up slowly, and we were soon cruising at 15kts and I continued to open up the throttle and managed just over 20kts. After a few quick runs I noticed that the engine temp was slightly cooler than I have seen before and testing the water out of the exhaust it was noticeably cooler. Jamie had a run at the helm and managed 22kts but I think this was with the tide, anyway I am well pleased with the results. Still not at max revs for the engine but this is plenty fast enough and becomes uncomfortable in any sort of chop. Steering is lighter but as she does not have a keel as such she does tend to wander especially with any cross currents. Also fitted my new anchor, chain and warp, all 100mtrs went in ok to the hold, I hope I can keep this for a while! Had one slight problem in that one of the alternator bolts had come loose and dropped off somewhere in the bilge so I need to replace this and she will be ready for fishing trip if the weather ever improves. Next job is to sort out the electric winch, wire up the DSC part of the radio to the plotter and give the engine an oil & filter change. Always things to do! Coddy
  10. Don't worry, the comp WILL be back next year. I am sure if will be as big if not bigger than previously and hopefully the economic climate will have improved to get more sponsors and prizes on the table. Coddy
  11. Martin You may recall that at the AGM we increased the number of hooks to 3 for comps this year. COMPETITIONS WILL BE FISHED INSIDE CLUB WATERS [WEATHER PERMITTING] AND ARE FISHED FOR OVER ANY SEVEN HOUR PERIOD BETWEEN 0600AND 1800 UNLESS SPECIFIED THIS IS TO ALLOW MEMBERS TO ADJUST THIER FISHING TIMES TO SUIT TIDES, LAUNCHING ETC. ALL COMPETITIONS CAN BE FISHED WITH A TOTAL OF THREE HOOKS [Pennel Rigs and Trebles hooks count as ONE] AND A MAXIMUM OF TWO RODS [One & Two hooks per rod if using two rods]. NO OTHER RODS ARE TO BE IN USE WHILE FISHING THE COMPETITIONS. Coddy

    Anti-foul

Hi Mark I have not used the boat yet so don't know how the Trilux works. Seemed to go on ok and gave everything we could get to a couple of coats plus primer. I will advise how it lasts. With my Jabsco pump I ended up having to get a new one and found the correct model, now obsolete, at Lancing Marine at a bargin price (compared to Jabsco!). Went to start the engine and both batteries were flat so staill waiting to run her up and try her out! Might be able to get out for the lure comp subject to the bl@@dy weather! Coddy

    Anchoring

Hi John A Lazy Line is a rope that is fixed between the bow of the boat and is long enough to reach to the cockpit. It must NEVER be long enough to reach the prop. This allows you to work in the safety of the cockpit and not on the bow of the boat. I have had a Seahog Hunter and used the "Lazy line" very successfully. All you need to do it attach a rope to the front of the boat, I used the towing/winching eye, and the other end just long enough to reach the middle of the deck but not long enough to get caught in the outboard prop. You have your normal anchor & rope in the deck area and when you want to anchor just lower the anchor over the side. When you have reached the required length of rope out to the anchor, tie a loop into the anchor rope and clip the "Lazy line" to the loop, then let this over the side. This keeps the anchor rope at the front of the boat and in the tide. You also have a length of anchor rope coming from the bow of the boat back down the side. When you want to go, pull the free length of anchor rope back alongside the boat until you reach the clip, you can then bring the anchor up and into the boat. HOWEVER there is a warning that all this work at the side of the boat may put you and the boat side onto the swell which may cause a severe rolling action, this is why many people use the "Alderney Buoy" method as well as you can motor the anchor out and recover under more controlled conditions. All the above sounds more complicated than it actually is. See here http://www.fishing-boats.info/bits.htm then click on anchoring or http://www.boat-angling.co.uk/Hints_and_Ti...at_handling.htm Hope this helps Coddy

    Mail Order

Hi all At the club meeting I advised everyone that I had a good shopping experience with a new (to me anyway) mail order company for Chandlery and boat bits. I thought their prices were very competitive and so I went to their warehouse and got myself a new 7.5kg Bruce-a-like anchor for

    Anti-foul

Hi Paul Meant to have a word at the meeting. Thanks for the offer but I think my tub may be a tad too heavy for your trailer at around 2tonnes! I suspect you may have single wheels and I think it will need double wheels. Don't fancy bending your nice trailer! Coddy

    Just Ask

If it is any help have a look here http://www.dieselbob.co.uk/injectionparts.shtml He seems cheaper than you have been quoted. A lot of people on another forum (Transits) use him and had no complaints. Coddy

    Anti-foul

Hi Pete Don't worry new anodes were fitted to each trim tab and leg and not painted over. The prop anode was completly gone and someone previously had painted over the transom anode so it was still in perfect condition! This has been cleaned and re-installed. With the warm water (and grotty state) of Hole Bay I hope these anodes last the year! At least I have found out which Volvo leg I have, a 275 which is apparantly not a common beast. It seems it is part 290 and part 270. Just got to see if I can find some transfers now to give it a smarter look. Coddy

    Anti-foul

Well all done by lunch time and the rain. Decided not to add a boot line at this time until the rest of the hull is painted to see how it looks. To do the hull all I need to do is borrow a trailer and I am sure we can get her ready and painted and be back in the water over a week-end. Anyway, here are a couple of pictures of the finished hull. The leg and prop has had a couple of top coats as have the trim tabs plus the sounder transducer so hopefuly the weed growth shoud be drasticly reduced. Leg before cleaning Leg after If anyone is interested I have used International Crusier Uno antifoul, and Trilux antifoul on the leg and any metalwork. Not the cheapest but if International is good enough for the RNLI it should be ok for me! Just got to wait for the Jabsco pump to come back from being overhauled and I can then try her out. Coddy

    Anti-foul

Well, it only took 1.5hrs to clean 95% of the growth off on Friday night, apart from some squirty type weed it came off in sheets complete with the majority of barnicals. With three of us down in the yard by 8.45am we soon had the gazibo over the deck and sides and final bit of scapping was done. As most of you have pointed out there was very little anti-foul left and in fact it was just the old GRP showing in many places. Managed to clean down the leg and paint that up with primer and one coat of anti-foul, prop came off with no problems, yipee, as I was expecting it to be stuck on. The prop anode had gone completly and someone had painted over the transom one so it was still as good as new!! Sunday it is another coat on the bottom and the bootline to add plus refit the transducer. Going to re-position this as it was in disturbed water at anything over 8kts. Monday morning she has got to go back in. This just leaves the hull above the water line to rub down and repaint plus the topside at a later date. So hopefuly by the end of summer (what summer I know) she will look good for the winter. What she looks like after one coat Coddy

I think I have found the reason for the reduction of speed on my boat. It came out today! This has been in Holes Bay since April, I knew it needed doing but! Busy week-end ahead Coddy
