Hi all My VHF ariel broke on Saturday whilst bombing around the harbour. Has anyone got any good/bad reports of what to get or not to get. I think 1.5mtr will be the maximum length that will work without breaking again. I suppose I will have to dispense with the club flag and my skull & cross bones as well! Coddy ps It will be fitted to my 165 Warrior if that makes any differance.

It's quite worrying! For those who don't know what this is all about then visit www.save-our-sharks.org Anyone interested in saving this species and that should mean everyone on this forum, can reply. All it takes is a quick email to tope@defra.gsi.gov.uk stating that you wish to vote for option 2. If you do fish for tope then also mention the areas you fish and roughly how much you spend on the fishing each year. I've pasted the latest SOS newsletter for anyone who hasn't seen it yet. ------------------------------------------------------------------- SOS October Newsletter Hi All SOS is growing rapidly and our membership has known grown to well over 200. I would like to offer a big Welcome to all those that have joined recently. You will remember that our last members email was full of doom and gloom as very few anglers had bothered to respond to the consultation. The situation has improved this week but we need to keep them coming. We cannot let apathy ruin this golden opportunity. Thanks to all those that have responded; for those that haven

Hi Bob Interesting topic about lug worm. Before I moved down to Poole, I used to fish on the East coast and we used nothing but lug and only rag if we had too. I have also fished Dungerness from the beach and it has always been regarded as the No1 bait. The cod and coddling loved it and it gave off lovely juices and sent but so far I have only found frozen lug. I assume that there are not any lug beds around this area so the fish are not used to tasting it. Coddy

Well done guys Had I have not listened to forecast I might have been there as well. Well done Paul, sorry you didn't do better on Sammy on the last trip out but maybe next time! Coddy

Mike As Kam suggested but make sure you use "silver sand". I did mine by mixing the sand with the paint in the tin first and use an old throw away brush. Lasted over 18mths on my old Seahog. Coddy

Managed to get Sammy out in Poole today. Coming out of the harbour we were met with a nasty chop until we got into the main channel. Saw a number of fishing boats all drifting around the castle and thought this was not a good omen to venture out! Having passed the ferry and going up the swash most of the charter boats were on Hook sands! Interestin I thought but we needed fresh bait and so headed for Old Harry. Well steam out at 10kts was not too bad apart from the odd splashing but when we stopped hmmmm it was a bit 'rock & roll' Tried for macky's but only managed a couple after a long drift and as the tide was still flooding we did not fancy the trip back with the wind against tide later, so we headed back into the harbour. Most boats were drifting in a number of locations, charter boys were in the Swash but we thought we would be differant and moored up on a mooring buoy. We started to get bites almost immeadiatly but could not connect with anything, it seemed like bream bites but nothing would get them to grap the hook! Anyway we stuck it out for a few hours and saw Mad Mike & co chugg by with a wave! We only ended up with loads of makeral and the greater weed fish. Lots and loads of weed! The wind was strong and blustery and the sea state even in the harbour was bumpy, but it was good to get out and get some fresh air. I think it was a day for the sticks & rags brigade as they seem to love these conditions by the numbers that were out. I wont be out on Sunday as I can not see it improving, so good luck to those that do try. Coddy

Think you'll get a laugh out of this one..... This about sums up this state...... A Kentucky couple, both bonified rednecks, had 9 children. They went to the doctor to see about getting the husband "fixed". The doctor gladly started the required procedure and asked them what finally made them make the decision -- why after nine children, would they choose to do this. The husband replied that they had read in a recent article that one out of every ten children being born in North America was Mexican, and they didn't want to take a chance on having a Mexican baby because neither of them could speak Spanish Sounds familiar Coddy

A father passing by his son's bedroom, was astonished to see the bed was nicely made, and everything was picked up. Then, he saw an envelope, propped up prominently on the pillow. It was addressed, "Dad." With the worst premonition, he opened the envelope and read the letter, with trembling hands. "Dear Dad, It is with great regret and sorrow that I'm writing you. I had to elope with my new girlfriend, because I wanted to avoid a scene with Mom and you. I've been finding real passion with Stacy, and she is so nice, but I knew you would not approve of her, because of all her piercings, tattoos, her tight Motorcycle clothes, and because she is so much older than I am. But it's not only the passion, Dad she's pregnant. Stacy said that we will be very happy. She owns a trailer in the woods, and has a stack of firewood for the whole winter. We share a dream of having many more children. Stacy has opened my eyes to the fact that marijuana doesn't really hurt anyone. We'll be growing it for ourselves, and trading it with the other people in the commune, for all the cocaine and ecstasy we want. In the meantime, we'll pray that science will find a cure for AIDS, so Stacy can get better. She sure deserves it!! Don't worry Dad, I'm 15, and I know how to take care of myself. Someday, I'm sure we'll be back to visit, so you can get to know your grandchildren. Love, your son, John. P.S. Dad, None of the above is true. I'm over at Tommy's house. I just wanted to remind you that there are worse things in life than the report card that's in my center desk drawer. I love you! Call when it is safe for me to come home."
