  3. ...and a well chewed stick of Wrigleys.
  4. Yeh, twas a good day, if a little choppy at times. But very impressed with the way Maverick handled the seas. Some of those huge rolling waves towards the west bouy were fun to drift over with beam on, but Maverick just glided over them. A really good day, Martin.
  5. Well that explains a lot, then!

    BFM Letter

The guy gave up Charter boat fishing because of experiences with an unknown charter boat in Poole. This was a few years ago. Words like "obnoxious, sarcasm, and ridicule" were used to describe the behavior of the skippers son who was running the boat that day, and a later trip where the skipper had over booked and crammed everyone onto the boat. He give up and sold all his stuff. Then moved to Somerset and got the bug again, and has started fishing out of Watchet which has been a much better experience for him. T'would be nice if the guy came back to Poole and tried the charter boats that are there now, he would get a similar pleasant experience to Wachet. Bob F.

    BFM Letter

Anyone read the letter on page 81 of this months BFM? I wonder who they were referring to... Best not to name names, but it's not a good advert for Poole. Bob F
  9. Now that brings back some memories of some great night conger sessions I had on the rocks, mostly off Portland Bill. Had some damn good conger, but my mate Terry's best catch was a 12 1/2 lb Bass caught at 3pm in the morning on Mackerel head and guts. Oh, and a 3 bearded rockling that was 1oz under the British record. We used to fish all year round. One winter it was so cold we took it in terms to return to the car for an hour or two to warm up. I fell asleep in the car and 4 hrs later I walked back to the rocks to find Terry sat staring out to sea with a layer of frost all over him. I thought the bugger was dead!! Bob F

    BASS!

    Fingers crossed, then.
  14. Yeh, I could do with a decent session...a bit of fishing would be good, too!!

    BASS!

Yes, I know what you mean, Paul. It takes a long time to convert from Word into the format for the database. I tried using notepad, but that was just as long-winded. I've also tried taking sections from Frontpage, but the layout always needs to be tweaked, which again is time consuming. Do we have to use the database method for the species articles? Can't we just use Frontpage?? The species articles will need very little maintenance once they are published, so maybe the non-database method would be easier to get the articles published???? It's the main reason I have been slow in publishing more articles. What do you think? cheers Bob F.
  16. I'm easy either way.

    BASS!

Adam, I can only see half the article.
  18. ooooh ech!!! Interesting this...my older Suzuki Vitara had a purpose made bracket to connect the snatch line to. ...but my new 406 with factory fitted tow bar has no such place to attach the snatch line. If it's a legal requirement, why do they not supply a fitting for the snatch cable???
  19. My Dad was a professional photographer and used to take road accident photos for the Police. Saw some VERY nasty accidents where people were towing tailers, caravans, boats, etc, that were much too heavy for the car. A heavy trailer can overpower a car and make it flip over under heavy braking or sudden changes in direction. But on the brighter side it can be quite amusing watching the trailer overtake your car...

Dan, You can also read the article on conger fishing in our area. At the top of the page you'll see a menu bar - select "Interactive" - and then select "species/tactics". We only have articles on Blonde Rays (complete) and Conger (80% complete) at the moment . There will also be an article on Bass soon (wont there Adam??). cheers Bob F.
  21. ...so have you bought a new boat?? I'm a little confused whether you purchased the Bayliner or went for something else?? Bob F
  22. ...you'll be lucky to get anything half decent for
  23. The stabbing in the back when you brake is the braking mechanism that is behind the tow hitch ball. It is fairly normal to feel the trailer brakes grabbing when you brake the car, and is supposed to happen. The fact that up can feel this means that the brakes on the trailer are working (or were working). The brake adjustment I was refering to was a ratchet wheel or cog that is accessed through a hole in the back plate of the wheel hub (just like on a car). Not sure if your particular trailer has this. What make is the trailer?? The hitch cable is supposed to be clipped to a tow bar or a secure area on the car. Apparently, it is NOT acceptable to loop the hitch cable around the tow bar, it must to clipped or secured somewhere. My tow bar has a small metal bracket with a hole in it which the tow hitch clips to.
  24. May PB Bass was caught on crushed peeler, but not on a drift.
  25. Good call Newboy. If you'd had an accident you would not have been covered by your insurance. Could've been very costly.
