As if you all need reminding...it is the clubs annual 48hr Specimen Comp this weekend. As I have already posted, the format of the prize giving at the Mariner on the Sunday eve, will not happen this year, so the format will revert back to previous years. Coddy, I would really like a shark sling - do you have one for sale, or just to look at? The last tope I had (35lb) ate my sling and spat it out! I have weighed carp to 57lb in it, but it made mince meat of it!!!

KK, I have the MK11 Warrior, which takes 2 x 25l tanks. I believe that you can also get a large single tanks, but I thought this would be to heavy to move when full. It also gives me the flexibilty of a seperate tank. If you have the MK2 you will be the same, havent seen the MK1. Either this or you have need to get different tanks - mine are Quicksilver Marine jobbies. Adam

Duncan - the rail is just a length of 316 SS with 90 deg bends at each end - the smart bit is the CNC machined solid billet polished sockets that it locates into. Mine is about 1500mm long, if you went longer you would need a central support/bar. The rod holders are just the normal adjustable types available from Nautiquipe or the various jumbles - I paid 8 squid each for 4. My deck wash only uses a 500 GPH Rule Bilge pump, simple set up and cheap to replace when it breaks -

#3 - Finally, I have just modified my livebait well that was added last year. The pump is now a perminent feature on the transom, siliconed and screwed and mounted on a purpose made mount. It is live wired to a switch on the dash, and has a perminent through hull fitting at the transom. I have fitted a 2 way valve, and carry 6' of hose with a Hozlelock spray nozzle attached. Now I have the option of running the live well, or at the flick of a switch turning on the deck wash. The excess water then runs into the sump where bilge pump no.2 pumps it out through the hull fitting. Picture shows live bait tank and deck wash in-situe.

# 2 - The latest mod - a shiney new removable transom rail from Stainless Peter. Collected yesterday and fitted this evening. Now when travelling rods dont have to lie on the deck and get bashed around, they can be stored vertically out of the way. It carries 4, plus the 2 factory holders at the rear. It is on sockets also, so I can remove it when, either out not fishing just playing/cruising and also to get the tonneau cover on. Warrior charge about

Just thought I would post these for those who are interested in boat mods, and also a a future link - someone is bound to ask about these in the future....PBSBAC, a veritable nautical libary! #1 - New Treadmaster decking installed. The 165's come with a glassfibre deck. Its ok, but can be slippy, boxes etc also slide around and it can be tricky to clean off dried dirt. 6 sheets of this evo-stuck down and trimmed into place. Ive had it installed for about a month now and well impressed. Its more comfortable, very grippy, and above all looks much better!

Valid points Duncan. I had reckoned on Sunday as: Will give me a gap between Fri eve and Sun to earn brownies (and not be 'fishing ALL weekend' as it was just put to me!) Martin also cannot do an early start Sat, but can Sunday - and just spoke to Mark, who is considering leaving Weymouth on Sat eve, and heading early to the Rips on Sun am. Would be nice to have a big boat along for company....

Kam, Im also with Porthcawl. I phoned them last year re this and they aksed I put it in writing. I stated that very occasionally I would be venturing outside coastal waters and also night use. 25 miles seems a long way to me, but as Charlie says a day round west can see me clocking 50 miles, so it aint a lot more.

Duncan, Having considered it, I am seriously considering the Rips on Sunday, the flood will be an hour later also... Can we make a convoy? I know Loyal Royal wants to go, Maverick and yourself so that is 4 boats for safety, the long range (dangerous as it may be to look!) is looking good with light winds forecast with sun. I will probably fish Fri eve with Rach, earn brownie points on Sat and then begin at the crack of dawn on Sunday, leaving Poole at say 6am. The only thing that concerns me is the lack of knowledge of going 23 miles offshore with no numbers, tactics or back up marks etc.... What do others think?

I will be fishing Friday, Sat and Sunday. This wont be constant and is not set in stone, and will depend on the weather - if it is superb on Sunday I may head to the ripps.... More likely though: Friday night a short bassing/conger session on the ledge with Rach if the wind is light, with crew if it is above a F3. Sat - short day/eve trip or no trip... Sunday - Full day. I will have made a plan by Thurs.

The original idea was to replicate the event last year where we used the Mariner Club for the presentation and had a few donated prizes - however due to the Burnham Club comp demanding much of my time recently on top of the other comps / events each weekend, we have not managed to organise these final details. As James said, we had a pretty good day and was sure that we had secured a place in the top 3 or 4...but on hearing how Dean's day went maybe not so! Anyway, we had a cracking day with sooo many fish! For the record my best went 2lb 8oz. We also had a couple of new species for BW - a Tompot blenny and a brace of 3 bearded rockling. The wind stayed quite polite with the odd F5/6 gust but about a steady 4 all day - it couldnt have been that bad as the kettle stayed on the stove and the bacon managed to get cooked!

Blue against a grey sky will be ok...that seems to be the norm!!

Sea State: moderate Has worsened since this morning, with no sign of any North in the wind and freshening to 5/6....not ideal to say the least! BW will still launch and make a run for the ledge, but I suspect a S/SW F5/6 will keep us well away - mullet fishing in the harbour it looks like.

I bought a 1 pint metal bait dropper in the tackle shop today. Has a 2oz lead on it, plus the weight of the body - so 5oz unloaded, about a 1lb loaded depending what with. Cost me

I would rather have a blue penant with the club logo - I dont think I would bother if it was the yellow and red one....
