I have 2 batts fitted to my boat, thorugh an isolation swtich. I also have a removable solar charger that plugs into the ciggie thingy. Question? - In which position should I set my switch when I have the solar panle plugged in and charging? obviosuly it will not be 1 or 2. But should it be OFF or BOTH????????? I appreciate this will only give a very small charge, but it is to keep them topped up more than anything, and as it is fitted into the Tonneau cover, I soon as well use it when Im not out in the boat! Nice boat Malroy! - and a cracking piccie also, she looks really good in the sun! We are lucky down this way. We dont even have the choice of beach launching, everything is done on slipways. But a good word of warning. Even on slips, being over confident with a 4wd is dangerous, several of the slips around here can be trecherous and demand care. Do you want me to tell you how to load the piccie as an Avatar (little picture that shows by your username in the left hand box? adam

Going with Popular demand - The next trail-a-way will be Weymouth, fishing for Bass. This is a new one to me, so any advice greatly appreciated. PM me if you want it to be secure, or post here and Ill give you my phone number. Dates??? What do we think? what tides do we need? I may plan to fish both days, and stay overnight on a mooring? So we could offer either Sat or Sun to any boats who wish to fish. Is this OK with everyone? In the 1st instance can I have a rough idea on who wants in? Adam

Easy Malc. When you have finished typing your text, move to the bottom of the reply screen. (the one I am in now - as I type this reply) You will see a box and a section called 'Browse' Click this and it will launch a search box for the files in your computer, browse around, select the image you want to insert then click OK. When you click Add Reply to finish the post, Volia' the picture will appear! Hope this helps?

Dave, Seems to be plenty of Offshores and Lochins around at the moment. Boats&Outboards has at least 5 on their site. Have you sold Bagleys Honour yet? Adam

What really gets me is why fish like Skate, Tope and Eels win in the 1st place?? Like someone is likely to kill a 212lb skate for the table.... OK it may be a better specimen that the Bass, but the price is for the most worthy catch and release..surely they should be awarding people returning scarce fish like bass. I though my 11lb 15oz would get it last year - but it went to a Tope....

1st of all, many thanks to all who entered the comp this weekend. It was really nice to see such a positive response to the hard work the 'new' comp. commite put in. Those who made it to the Mariners afterwards - thanks - it was a slightly new format than previous years, with the emphasis on all meeting for a small prize giving afterwards at the Mariners - as it is not often we meet after a club match. I think you will all agree it was a success. The weather was far kinder this year than last, and this allowed us to put to sea every day of the comp, the sun shone, and as a result we had some cracking fished logged in. I havent had the chance yet to work the full final tally, but I will do today and Ill post them when I have - but here is the Winners podium!: 1st - James Parker. Bass, 9lb 12oz - 102.63% 2nd - Tom Smith. Tope, 45lb - 100% 3rd - Duncan Mackie. Undulate Ray, 14lb - 100% 3 cracking fish - rightly deserved. For me it was an interesting learning curve. It showed that organising an event like this, no matter how much work, and how well your prior planning is - something is bound to go wrong and things never run smoothly! Several things have been learnt, and taken onboard - hopefully next year will go a little smoother! Thanks Adam F

Just been away for 3 days working. Aint the forum flying! - 3 new members since I went away - and 3 pages of posts! - Crazy! I dont know of any other forum for small boat fishing in the UK that is a successful or popular! It is a credit to all who built and run the site, and all members who post for keeping it clean and dedicated to the subject matter (unlike other forums!) Well done, and long may it continue! Adam F

Well its never happend before, and I hope its not a sign of things to come!! James and I had planned to do our 1st conger trip of the year tonight. Tides couldnt have been worse with low being midnight.....Wind was forecast 3-4 SW, iffy..... I made the decision to stay at home, but James' persuasive skills got the better of me, and at 7pm we put to sea in Tara. I was still convinced that the ledge would be too rough....and I was right! It is the first time - EVER - that I have seen james turn the boat around before we arrived and head back in! We were greated by a decent 15' swell and wind against tide after a thoroughly good soaking we decided it was way too rough - esp. for night fishing. We had 2 drifts for macky and then came in...... Lesson learnt: 'If you think it is too rough to go out - then it probably is!'

Les, Welcome to the forum! - Always good to have a fellow 165 owner onboard! Cant really help you with crew on the weekend, but if you are launching from Wick, I am also, so give me a shout and maybe we could fish in tandem? Cheers Adam

Hmmmm ....depends on how you are fishing. - Just to confuse things. When fishing a shad, sandeel etc on a long flying collar rig pumping is a no,no. The bouncing effect the lead has (exagerated on a heavy lead) can lead to the hook pulling or being bounced out of the fishes' mouth. So wind up off the bottom 34/40 turns eg. then when the fish hits, BANG!....carry on going, winding slowely and let the rod do the work...boring I know, but the only way to do it. When fishing 'traditionally' pumping is the accepted method to gain line onto the reel without causing undue stress to the reel. Pump and Wind etc, etc... Hope this helps?

Hmmmm...lucky bleeders! BW stayed firmly put this weekend. 2 days off work last week put to that, so Sat and Sun have been a mix of working (proper wage earning work ) DIY, Shopping and family commitments ...all the while BW stared at me through the window ' why havent you taken me out into the sunshine???' she whispered! Well done to all who got out this WE, sounds like some good sessions were had by all....Im saving myself for next weekend, althoug with the orgainisation and other things it looks like my 48 hrs will be reduced to about 8hrs ...never mind!

Rich JAW, My brother Greg and I all had a day off on thurs, and with the huge tides, bad tide times, and forecast for poor wind direction etc...it was looking bad for a trip west for tope. Plan B was to hit the Solent for the day. After spending 1/2hr on the Sconse after mackeral, and watching all the local charters head out to sea for bass, we wondered whether our decision to head inland and east to fish for smoothies and ray was the right one..... Anchored off Sowley (see your maps if you dont know) we begun to catch from the off - sea fishing virgin Greg hooking into numerous hard fighting smoothies - it was worth it just to see his face when he hit them! Rich kept his end up, with a few smoothies and doggies! Tide changed and we re-anchored. I fished just the 1 rod all day for ray, letting greg have the other 2 ror the hounds. Just after 2pm, whilst helping greg play a good smoothy, my ray rod is almost pulled over! - hooking into the fish it took at least 50/60 yards with the lever drag pushed to the max - wow! the whole fight lasted about 15 mins, and was one of the best I've ever had - the nickname stingers are given of Diesel trucks is bout right. 16lb dead. What a result. Basically another great day out - cheers to Rich and Greg, good company. Adam
