  1. Good point - I was on Cyclone when we first tried it - shaft drive. That said, Charlie moored stern on the 2nd night and slept great - sure the mooring was tight to the drive, but Alfresco has a huge pair of buffs onboard which we tied off the stern rails and hung over the drive so the mooring touched this not the drive unit.
  2. I'm no expert Duncan, as I havent had the chance to use my kit in anger, but I went out and bought the kit a few years back with the intention. I used double barrel s/s crimps and galv multi strand wire from B&Q - about half the thickness of bycycle cable. Hooks were 10/0 o'shaughnessy's but since Ive got some proper 'sharp' shark hooks from Mike at UK-Hooks. Hopefully the new boat will give us the chance to have a try!
  3. Too late - she's not here yet and I'm in Love.....

    Anchor

A bruce type anchor seems to be the most commonly used style in the club and the one I use for our waters. Combined with the right size and length of chain a 7kg will be ideal. Dont fret about getting a genuine bruce, there are plenty of cheaper copies out there that work just as well.
  5. Ive been fishing with Gordon more than most - It's sick I tell ya'......sick..... Obsession gone too far
  6. Nice one Terry! A 4lb Turbot is a pretty good fish for the bay Beats steaming 70 miles for one
  7. That's an Undulate Ray, Al. Probably a good thing (?) Undulates are probably rarer than thornbacks and arguably a better catch. Hopefully still a 1st on the boat. http://web.ukonline.co.uk/aquarium/pages/undulateray.html
  8. Gordon H - you need to speak to Gordon M....you both seem to be in the same boat!!
  9. OH YES!!! Looking forward to it. Funny thing is that since we decided to build 'TBA' Ive had more invites than ever!!
  10. I'm not too keen on fishing a shore comp, but it is a worth cause - cant we have our own boat comp along the same lines? Adam
  11. I'd do Friday as long as it was after bream?

    What now!!?

Well I can tell you that 300kgs of Volvo doesnt move very easily over a shingle driveway. A pallet truck, a dozen lengths of 6x2, many boards, bricks and sweat and she is sat saftely behind lock and key and in the dry. Now we need something to put her in!

  18. "With everyone harping on about a PBSBAC clubhouse, things went quiet when new chairman Paul J unvieled the building the club had bought..."
  19. Happy Birthday gents! Have a good-un! Charlie - Fingers crossed for a birthday sized Turbbie in a few days!
  20. Good one guys - some cracking captions So, these made the shortlist: Charlie - 'Do you think my artificial bait is a bit big for towing behind a kyak??' Gordon - 'Mmmmmmmmmm one of those crunchy canopes ' Corky - 'Sid the shark loved bananas and couldnt believe his luck upon spotting one nearly ten feet long.' Neal - 'Ok - So now that i've caught one, how the bloody hell do I get the hook out?' But my favourite is: 'Towing Willy out to the film set was proving more difficult than I thought!' Over to you Neal!
  21. Thanks Al, nice report. The fishing is always the other part of the fun in the islands isnt it - food, friends, secenery and a beer or three make up the rest I think i'll pick up a few packs of macky and eels in that case - to keep the beers cool of course!
  22. Mark, We have a club meeting on Thurs so we will be pulling together plas then. However the basic plan is to head over Sat morning stopping on a few wrecks on the way, before getting to the banks for the afternoon. We will all be in the Marie Hall on Sat night, so it would be good to buy you a beer or three, and of course a few of us are staying with you. A plan from you would be good, I'll give you a ring later as the forecast seems to be holding as reasonable. Cheers Adam
