  6. Where do I start? There are millions reasons for not catching fish, an easterly wind, months with 'r'...... However a few main reasons are usual why. 1) there's no fish where you were. 2)fish just not feeding. 3)you are targeting the wrong fish, i.e., you are using gears not meant for fish there are there, wrong size hook, wrong bait, drifting/ anchoring, is your bait on the bottom when anchoring? It might have been 5 mins ago when you trotted out the line, but is it still hard on the bottom now? If possible go out on one of the many club boat and see how the otheres do it. I'm sure many of the 'established' skipper won't mind helping a fellow club member.
  7. I'd replaced the tip of the 6' version, can't say it looked any different, is the 8' 2 piece very different then?

  10. There are only 2 (1 more starting this summer) charters in shetland, so number would have to be either 8 or 16. John operates out of Cullivoe, and the other is Northmavine operate out of Northmavine, it's attached to the mainland, so no other ferries other than the overnight one. http://www.northmavine-charters.shetland.co.uk/ The (approx) cost of my ferry is
  11. Wednesday 13th Home at 5:45pm and 1,255miles added to the car. It was unfortunate that weather wasn't on our side, all it needed was either a different direction or a f3 wind and we would have got out to the wrecks and other marks where big, big fish was landed, nor could we go to the banks for the tirbots. I lost 3 pirks, all to the props and rudder after being brought up in a tangle, and 1 lead to the bottom. Would I do this again? Maybe, but definitely on a shorter trip 2-3 days max, four days is just too much. All in all a very very good trip, I estimated I must have caught over 200 fish in 3 days. The cost ain't bad either, 3 of us work out to be
  12. Tuesday 12th June Since we had to be at the ferry by 6:00pm at the latest, the starting time was to be 6:00 in the morning and finishes at 1:30pm. The forecast was sh*t, John said he couldn
  13. Monday 11th June We knew today was even worse the forecast was for wind to go upto 20mph and turn to northerly in the afternoon plus more of the same for Tuesday. We again fished the same banks and pinnacles as the days before. However we did get amongst the bigger (slightly) stuffs, more cods were in the 10-15lb range and lots more coalfish today. Coalfish to 18.5lbs and I hooked into a fish which everyone thought was a monster, it took me round the boat (even up the bow and down the other side, after about 15mins fight it came to the surface, not a monster but a cod of about 12 lbs hooked on the tail
  14. Sunday 10th June Having been told by John we would start at 9:30, we leisurely got up and had breakfast before heading for the boat. The forecast wasn
  15. Saturday 9th June We arrived at Lerwick just before 6:30am on Friday morning, John was in the car park waiting for 4 of his anglers who were from Scotland (1 from Ayr and 3 from Edinburgh), we drove around looking for a caf

  17. When did you go? I was there on the 9th-12th. The weather was bad, wind was f5-f7 while we were there, so only managed to fish the bit just inside the sound, we could just see Muckle Flugga in the distance but couldn't get anywhere near it. Will do a proper report when I catch up with the paper work.
