  1. Andy, it's defo worth joining. I am from Andover and that flipping miles from Poole. These guys are great with helpful tips on boats or anything else for that matter. My boat is slowly working it's way to the coastline , just need the vhf boat licence. Word of warning tho, stay away from Mike, he's trouble ........

    Cable??

Myself has opted for the 'unplug and plug' method, I've fitted my engine battery with 'quick release' terminals, equipment battery is via 2 spring clips, so they can all be disconnect and connect in a flash. I also carry one of those power station capable of jump starting a battery in case both the batteries failed. My cabin is a maze of wires with lights, ff, gps, vhf as it is .....
  3. Can I cheat on Saturday? Howabout I slip you a fiver.......
  4. How does one 'on purpose' foul hook a fish? Trolling with long line with hundreds of razor sharp hooks?

    Cable??

use a set of jumplead as temp cables, if it works without overheating, then get some thick cables and make it permenent. Or give the vehicle wiring place a ring and ask 'What's the max length cable I can use for bridging two batteries?' They are bound to know.

    Solent Trip

I know we are going for smoothies and rays this saturday, what tackle are we using? I'm thinking of a 30lb class rod, 16kg braid, 60 trace and a simple running ledger with a pennel set up, bait wise, mackeral, peeler and squids.

    Cable??

Also the heavy plates dictate that battery must have minimum of movement, therefore the stern is the best place.

    Cable??

Again these people are very competitively price http://www.vehicle-wiring-products.co.uk/V...epage/home.html they have everything you'll need. Alternatively, see if you have any old jumping cables lying around redundent, they make fine battery cables too.

  11. We went fishing for bream yesterday but didn't find any. However managed to caught 1 turbot, 2 bass, 6 doggies, 6 topes and numerous mackeral. I even managed to catch one of the smaller bass , but it was thru its back and a doggy thru its tail, would it have counted as being caught?
  12. Me, me, me,........ I haven't been paired to a boat yet.
  13. If you haven't already got one, get her a Tempur mattress, they are GREAT. My missus had backpain for years after 2 kids. Since we got the mattress 4 years ago, she rarely get any back pain at all.
  14. I always thought we don't need a rod licence around tidal water if we are only targeting saltwater species. However, from the above, the EA seem to have started to mark what they consider to be the start/end of a river whether it is in tidal range or not. Am I correct?

Read it somewhere rice is a good ground bait for bream, but it didn't say cooked or uncooked? Any ideas, chaps?

    Cabin Light

Keep looking in ebay, I nearly bought one floor standing fluecent tube light (there's a hook on top for hanging).
  17. Rav is a real 4x4, but it's a little on the small side and a little under power. I guess it would be ok on a good slipway, but wouldn't be much good in tricky situation.

    new trailer wheel

Yes I've got two so you can have one no trouble. The differance between a mini wheel and the same size PCD trailer wheel is the off set of the rim to the hub. If you find a mini wheel fouls the mud guard stay, turn the mini wheel the oter way round and hey presto a trailer wheel Mike If you are gonna turn the wheel inside out, make sure the tyre hasn't got directional tread.
  21. What is the absolutely bare minimum you would go with? We were using 12lb gears and we (the missus, sad ain't it, she caught everything bigger than me ) were still able to 'drag' them in without any trouble.
  22. Really, I would prefer to watch this time, unless there are a shortage of spaces, then I will take my boat.
  23. The freelander does come in for a bit (a few) sticks, but Autocar (could have been What car?) did a survey, over 70% will back another freelander despite the bad press. How about a Porche 4x4 .......

    new trailer wheel

What about scrappy? There must be one somewhere.
  25. Thanks for pionting that out. Obviously I'd missed the point. I must admit, if I was to get a boat, running cost wouldn't have entered the equation. It's more a question can I pay X amount for this boat and then worry about the running cost later.
