  1. Hi Paul Thanks mate I had a great time, while not my biggest bass of the year, on my 10-30gram spinning rod and small fixed spool it went well. I usually use that rod for mullet fishing and may yet have another go. Not sure that I will be hanging up the conger gear though Charlie
  2. Update on our comp I really enjoyed my day onboard 50/50 with Stuart and Will. It was great to be on a differant boat for a change and although windy the weather was nice. We were to busy to worry about making tea etc so it was a flask and a sarnie box. After a chat with the JV crew as they waited for the tide we loaded the livebaits into the bait tank, put the kit onboard and sneaked out, stopping at Alfresco to unload a big buff and pick up my light spinning rod. When we arrived at Brownsea there were plenty of boats so we had a look and managed a few fish. As the tide eased we started moving about looking for the Bigger Fish, I must say that it does not take long on 50/50 At the right stage of the tide we stopped to refill the bait tank with a mixture of pout wrasse[all varieties] and pollack Then back on the hunt By 1600 we had managed about 20 fish, we kept 4 mostly deep hooked ones about 2-5lb and released plenty Will best fish 4lb 8oz best released 4lb 8oz Stuart Best fish 4lb best released 4lb Charlie best fish 5lb best released about 3lb on return to PBM it was a slick operation to get the boat out, so slick we had to wash her down ashore. After discussions and comparisons of prices last week I must say Richard and his lads had this sorted at PBM, and that should also be part of the comparison. Thanks Will and Stuart for a great day, it reminded me of great trips on my smaller boats and showed that owning a bigger boat does not tick all the boxes. I hope that others, on other boats on other marks had a good day as well Well done Rob and Charlie some nice fish from the ledge and well done on putting the big one back. You are determined to keep as many of those lures as you can. Charlie
  3. Peter Russel text me last night to say he was fishing on Whistler We had a busy day but no Huge fish, I am waiting for Will to get back to me on his and Stuarts best and the weight of the biggest of many we returned. I think we had about 20, we kept 4 My best went dead on 5lb. and will be tea tomorrow. Charlie
  4. Thanks Adam My lads have other committments, so I have jumped ship for a change. Alfresco will stay on her mooring and I will now be on 50/50 with Stuart and Will Tight lines Charlie
  5. Is this comp definatly going ahead? If so I had better organise a crew Charlie
  6. If you put it in the hands of your insurance they will no doubt be taking the view that the Marina Owner is responsible. and will then chase his Insurance Co It is usually deemed that they are the profesionals and therefore if they get it wrong were negligent. It depends if he admits that he did it Charlie
  7. No doubt when they sort the Yard out it will be the boat owners that pay for the improvements. Usually the prices start to rise, but I doubt that they would go up as much as PBM Ref the flushing a pair of muffs around the leg fed from a tap is the best way, run for as long as it takes to drain the carbs. A bit noisy but most boatyards would allow it Charlie
  8. 1) Adam - JV - Ben & Craig crewing 2) TW - Otter - Crew TBC 3) Tomo- Just Purfick- Full 4) Wight Magic [but need crew] 5] Charlie -Alfresco + Crew TBC [rude not to at least try] No serious threat to the bass stocks.
  9. Hi Joe Srry to hear of your problems You will probably find that the two units have to be set up with a service agent, I presume that you have called the suppliers of the replacement, if not they would be my first call and they may have a way to set them up. I had simular problems with my Volvo controls Also I would let them know of your theft and ask if there is a way to let all merc dealers know, in case the person who now has your unit has the same problem and has to get it matched to their engine. It may help catch the toerag that took it Good luck Charlie
  10. Nice report and picture well done Thomas and of course skipper another potential life long angler Charlie
  11. Click on the website link, for the differand boxes and the sizes are stated. Charlie
  12. Dave as you say it was the comp fishing that was below par not the years fishing. After the event I realised that we had been in the right place with the right baits and tides were OK I think it was our persistance with too heavy traces and big hooks that we got a bit wrong We should have changed tactics a bit more and started scratching. Not usually our style, but in Rome act like the Romans. Still enjoyed the day though

    Scales

Another pat on the back for Rob, well done for testing this prior to the comp. He phoned me to ask my opinion after realising the accuracy doubt. We both agreed accurate scales were a must. [and before anyone asks , I did not need them ] Unfortunately its another reason to wonder about having multiple weigh in stations. Charlie
  14. Nice one mate we had another poor year, perhaps we should spend more time inshore practising next year. Charlie
  15. I have the same as you Adam Bought donkeys years ago to take everything when chartering including flask and sarnies. It fits on top of the engine box [with several others at times] so we stay with it, Dan and I fish together most of the time so we now share it, it holds all the reels tuppaware boxes of spare line and hooks and a large segmented tray full of clips and swivels, Sam has a slightly smaller version of the same thing. I have found that it fits inside a large red box with fold over lids, so I take both in case I need an extra large tub to take fish home in, use as a bait tank when the big one is at home etc. we have tried several smaller boxes, that were not watertight enough. We do have a plastic toolbox type full of lures and leadheads, that is kept inside the cabin lockers for wreck and brittle star trips. Charlie

    Scales

I would be up for that bob with both my heavy and digital scales Thanks
  17. Well done. Rob Charlie Neil and the rest of the helpers. even though the weather was windier than hoped for, the comp was a great success I must say a huge thank you to all of our generous sponsors, that once again made it a competition to be proud of. The ones I approached were very willing to continue to support the Club and its open and many new sponsors also came forward. The biggest thanks must go to all the anglers that turned out to fish on that forecast, especially those taking great efforts to bring fish to the scales alive so that they could be returned. I hope that our two new friends from the press make the most of these efforts. Last but not least Well done to Dean for winning, and Dad for putting him on the fish of course. and all those that bought fish to the scales Hope to see you all again next year Charlie

  22. Wellcome Alan Please dive in and fire away with any questions, I am sure you will get plenty of replies The Clubs open comp is this Sunday as I am sure you have noticed on the Home page, we would love you to join in and fish it. But if that is not possible may I suggest popping down to the weigh in at Cobbs Quay to meet a few Members and say hello face to face. Charlie
  23. Dave I now have the seat [in mint condition] and the pedestal [used condition] they are in the car if you wish to give me a call, or I am in this evening if you want to pop around. Charlie
  24. Hi Alan Give me a call on my mobile 07887 794716 or my office 738824 in the morning and we can discuss options I have a diver we use often if Cobbs will allow him in the water on site a boat lifter the same as cobbs, but that would be last resort as you would have to motor to PYC and an engineer localy with an underwater camera. sure we can get you back on holiday plans Charlie
  25. Good luck with the sale Mike Sorry to hear that you must have decided to give up on the whole idea of boat fishing if all the kit is going. Charlie
