  1. Nice one James and a very good call to use a calm day and neap tide. If you get the chance go around by road and have a look at the peveril race at mid tide on a calm day from the coastguard hut, as Martin says far fron benign. I too have had some scarry moments there on this boat and the last Please be very careful The pollack and wrasse fishing inshore by blackers hole and Dancing ledges can be good, and I have had a 40lb tope close in there so a big bait fished just off the bottom may get you a tow Stay safe Charlie
  2. Thanks Guys This is proving far harder to organise than I thought. We have just dropped below the numbers for some discount, but I will discuss that later in the week. 4. Looks like a fun way to keep fit well done all and some good fish as well Charlie
  5. Looks like the weather is borderline for Sunday So we are likely to go on Sat instead, if anyone wants to join us at short notice give me a call Charlie
  6. No Problem Oli If you come over Sat will you be staying the night and coming to the meal? Charlie
  7. Hi guys Following some discussions at last nights meeting here is another update prior to me contacting the Marina and Restaurant The general concensus ref the weather seemed to be, that we should only go if we can do fishing and socialising. I was also asked to make the call by Wed/Thur AM for those like me that have booked a day off. While there was not a specific plan for the fishing, several people seemed to be interested in what was happening on the Saturday, Helen seemed very keen for us to have some fishing so that she and those ladies that wanted to could have some retail therepy n Weymouth. Because of personal reasons we will not be able to go on Friday until mid afternoon on Friday and let the last of the ebb tide push us West. maybe a few drifts on the banks before arrival early evening. We would then be happy to take a trip out on Saturday after breakfast with a plan to return early enough to get ready for the restaurant. anyone who wants to buddy boat will be more than welcome, in fact I will probably have space on the boat if anyone needs a ride. From my details I have 11 boats going by sea plus R2d2, Marine Boy, Jo Jo possibly going by road Alfresco - berthing Fri and Sat - 3 for restaurant confirmed Awol - berthing Fri and Sat - 3 for restaurant Confirmed Joint Venture - berth Sat night - 2 for Restaurant Serenity - berthing Fri and Sat - 2 for restaurant Wishin [due to personal reasons may change] - Sat 2 for restaurant Abode 2 -berthing Fri and Sat - 2 for restaurant confirmed by75% White magic probably join in the fishing only on Sat Prodigy - berthing Fri and Sat - 2 for restaurant Just perfick - berthing Fri and Sat - - 6 for restaurant confirmed Moonshine - berthing Fri and Sat - 2 for restaurant Imagine Fri and Sat - 2 for Restaurant Confirmed By Road: R2D2 trail down Jo Jo trail down - Sat - - 2 for Resturant Marineboy trail down lady jane It would be helpful if those that are not confirmed, can please do so. To get discount we need 10 boats also lets have some thoughts about fishing Sat and on the return run on Sunday lads. I am more than happy to run out to some wrecks for a go at the usual targets on Sat, With possibly a stop on the inshore marks/ banks on the way home, ebb tide against us from about 1400 Sunday I hear that the forecast remains changable, but at this range it will change several more times yet. 9. If the wind eases we will do Sunday and if we go of course we will add names to the list. If not we will try and go for the better forecast on Sat [may have spaces] Charlie
  10. Sounds good, to use for sharking. But in the excitement of a run it needs someone to recover all other gear quickly, if you have to buoy off and chase the fish. Charlie
  11. Hi In the case of the one that got away from Dan I do not believe that it would have made any differance, the fish got away after swimming under the boat and probably being able to contact the braid with its tail. Had it done that to mono of 30lb, it would have still had the same result. Lesson learnt was not to use a short leader. Dan had just had to retie a leader knot from a spool of 60lb mono, after carefully tying the knot the leader was found to only be about 6ft long. End of a day that will do. unfortunatly the fish was longer than the leader. What I do know is that the old shark boats prefered mono as does Danny Voskin who is a bit of a guru at this aspect of the sport. When we have another go, one of my old reels spooled with 60lb mono may get a dusting off. another thing is to check the drags are in good nick, if the old reel does not have a smooth drag forget it. Dan fought that fish for nearly 2 hrs on 30lb braid, no doubt assisted by the excellent drag on his TLD 15 Charlie
  12. Nige Do not leave it too long to have a look mate, the potters do not leave stray gear out there for long. Delay and the next time you see it may be at a boat jumble Charlie
  13. Well done the three winners Nice to see some good fish caught. Interestingly there have been some better ones from inshore marks since the comp, so it shows two things 1 Many of us may have done a lot more miles than we needed too. 2 Some of the Members that may have been put off, could have joined the comp and won. Charlie
  14. Dan worked on a Nordhavn last week He was so impressed with the engine room he took pictures to show me. even had a small engine for slow speed work instead of the main engine. Charlie

  16. Thanks Nige Adam I think I have seen that one a few times in Weymouth, is it the one with double doors in the transom to launch the dinghy. If also has an awsome array of screens in the wheelhouse. Its registered in Finland. I would even swap Alfresco for that one. Not sure I am ready to swap her for a yacht, would swap the fuel bills though Charlie

  18. Dan I fish the Rips and the wrecks the same way, using shads ,redgills, sidewinders etc on flying collar rigs and longer traces than used hopping. Simply drop t the bottom slowly to avoid tangles then wind uo 40 turns before dropping again and repeating. If/when you get a take you will know, the rod just takes a bend as the tip powers seawards. DO NOT STRIKE just wind, after letting the clutch do its work. I will PM later Charlie
  19. The marks on the RIPs are just outside the BS and worth a go as are a few well reported wrecks close by. Please be aware that the water is very deep 50-60m, so consider the length of anchor warp required, and be sure to have enough before thinking of anchoring. 150m MINIMUM on a calm day at slack. Good news is there are plenty of bait fish out there. If you need them. tight lines Charlie
  20. Please add Will Summerell Conger 44lb Dan Chapman Tope 30lb Conger 32lb Charlie Chapman Cod 12lb conger 30lb Ta
  21. Definatly the right man Nigel You will not see any repair when Marty has finished. Charlie
  22. I thought when reading "Pollacks" you were having a typo about the football. Charlie
  23. Nice picture of a good fish Paul We tried hard for our fish at the weekend too. Charlie
  24. Thanks Mark If any of the Kayakers want to join that will be great, and you will be more than welcome. We are planning to go to Portland Fri 9th July Boats booked into Marina for two nights. Trailer boats coming by road to use acadamy slipways. The Marina restaurant is booked for a meal on sat night for those that fancy it The fishing plans are as loose as you like, some of the ladies are staying ashore on Sat [going into Weymouth for retail therepy] while some boats go fishing See the main thread, under trip planning for more details Obviously its all weather dependant. Charlie
  25. Thanks Dave Good to remind people, the good thing is they tend to hug the island to Make the race as short as possible. But they start early, 0630 for the first classes I believe. Charlie
