  1. Mike I think your missus may think you are safe with that Blonde it looks like a male in the photo. Or are you not telling us something Just goes to show why some of us commented last week doesn't it a 20lb Thornback is a once in a lifetime huge specimen 153% where a 20lb Blonde is still a great fish and probably fought a lot harder than a thornback would, it is only be 87% of the specimen weight. Charlie
  2. Happy Birthday guys I hope you all get somthing a little Fishy, and have a great day. Charlie

    Defra

I have just recieved this apparently a real letter to defra Rt Hon David Miliband MP Secretary of State, Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA), Nobel House 17 Smith Square London SW1P 3JR 16 May 2007 Dear Secretary of State, My friend, who is in farming at the moment, recently received a cheque for
  4. If you want to catch the hounds better not leave it too long charlie
  5. 07970 895277 Charlie
  6. Hi Dean If I can I always like to check them out prior to wanting to go there to fish. Nothing worse than having a keen crew onboard and steaming up and down looking like an idiot staring at the fish finder, then missing the best part of the tide I had two sets of numbers recently from a dive boat, the first came up as if there was a buoy on it and the second I have never found [black Pearl I think ] I look forward to getting out there searching later this summer Charlie
  7. Glad its sorted mate, I will bring the cards My mate in the office had an engine failure 20 miles out on sat It took 10 hrs to sail to poole in dying winds until he gave up and anchored at old Harry for the night. He must have some patience Mind you at that speed at least you could fish Charlie
  8. Might make a good Cod bait though You seem to have the idea correct Neal. My suggestion would be print off a couple of sheet to take onboard to record your score with as you go, then send a copy to Paul afterwards. you should find it easy enough The other point is that you are on maximum species points with 4 of each species, and get bonus points for the number of species caught. It can be the case of moving about or varying tactics to score well. Paul after a good start last weekend Dan or I may be able to crew if you need one Charlie
  9. Good decision Mike I am sure if you now have no call to use either you will be blaming the fishing gods [Or me] I hope your line is tight again soon Charlie
  10. I realised that Paul That is why I said it would have won at the weekend Bitch
  11. Hi Martin We had all been awaiting the report form the other side of the channel Bad luck with the engine mate I have just returned from the seawork show and was talking to Mermaid marine about your engine I picked up a couple of cards for you One from Cecil Snare MD at Mermaid and his finace director Jo Palmer and the other was for Dave Okey The Sales Manager for Steyr motors at Mermaid 07976 257114, give Dave a call and mention me if you are stuck for repairs. I will leave the cards in the car and try and remember them on Sat. If you want them earlier pop in 8.5 knots from Guernsey is a killer. did it save much on fuel?? The boat I used to work on only did 10 knots and we crossed to the islands several times a month. Cheers Charlie
  12. Nice one Paul I wonder who is getting the tope?? Charlie
  13. Mike What I like after a good all night fishing session on the boat. Is the slow brightening of the sky from the East and the gradual increased awarness of the surroundings just before dawn. It make the return home with tired skipper and crew so much easier in the light Charlie
  14. Hi what a nice fish, not usual to catch them in the dark so I presume it may have been first light. As you say night fishing is a whole new game, and one not to be entered into lightly you are probably safer anchoring inshore than drifting when you may drift over pot buoys etc My advice would be build up experiance with day trips and when you venture out to fish at night go out in daylight and have a good look around and set the anchor before darkness comes. Stay safe Charlie
  15. Nice fish mate Another that would have won at the weekends comp Charlie
  16. Mike I was typing while you entered your last post so it was not a reply However I would disagree about the weighing I have seen to many guessed weights miles out to accept that any of us would get even close to correct weights evey time While I have weighed enough eels to get Dans about right on sat, I would have put the bream at 4lb not 3lb 6 oz and the undulate at about 10 I have seen profesional skippers over 10 lbs out on eels and rays well out So I would not like to see the need to weigh fish taken out, except for sharks for teh sfaety of the angler and the fish The reason we fish on trust is so they can be weighed and returned Charlie
  17. rGeat fish Mike and very worthy winners either would have been. Unfortunatly only weighed fish can be registered but a notable catch it must have tested your back mate. I think you should purchase some scales If you are out, all you have to do for the remaining comps is register that you are going out [ which you do anyway on the forum usually], fish within the rules ie max two rods or two hooks and record your catch [ which again you also do]. Fishing times are any 7 hr period between 0600 and 1800 so are very flexible No dig intended at anyone but,I find it hard to believe that we struggle at times to get 10 anglers fishing a comp when we know so many Members were afloat This weekend has proved from yours and Mikes catches that you do not need to have a fully kitted offshore angling boat or go dozens of miles to compete. you just have to be confident, enter, carry some scales and go for it Tight lines Charlie
  18. Glad you had a nice trip Adam I hope you were not to tired after the honymoon The fishing can be very On /Off at this time of year on the RIPs sounds like the Navman is going to save you some money in the long term. Charlie
  19. Thanks Paul, for organising the event and results And Thanks to Paul Frey's very generous loan of a boat, we managed not only to get out and have a good trip but also get on the results sheet. Thanks to everyone who took the time to enter and I hope you enjoyed your fishing as much as we did Charlie
  20. Nice report Paul Where are all the big Tope?? Its getting worrying that they are not at the usual spots Glad you had a good weekend, I hope you are not as knackered as I am Charlie
  21. Nothing like long range planning Gordon
  22. Hi where abouts are you Mark Charlie
  23. Oh stop it My Offshore is still in the Garden, and it may be the weekend that the engine goes in The other option is not available this weekend and the weather is looking good B****R it. Still if the sun shines the boat will look good when the scaffold comes down Charlie
  24. As I said before Time to let someone make a decision I have no problem with anyone claiming a vacant record or any other record for that matter. In fact if one of mine gets broken I am one of the first to congratulate the angler who did so, and it may spur me on to try to get it back. I am amazed that some have lasted so long. In the past Members who have broken records have not claimed them because they are not 100% sure what the records were, but if they have recorded a fish above the record size the fish recorder has picked up the fact and the record has been changed. At other times Members know that they have set a new record and included that info on the report. We average about 9 per year. It just seems strange to ask a record list to be changed to accomadate a fish that we all know is smaller than several others that were not asked to be recorded specifically as a starry. as I said and Paul says how do we know that the current record fish was not a starry?? Thanks for the picture upgrade Duncan Can I now claim for a 40lb starry tope???? Charlie
  25. Would love to Gary But I better not put anything else in the garage until I clear some of the boatbuilding gear out Charlie
