Hi Bob We are thinking of installing WiFi on the pontoons at work. A word of warning for you. One of the members uses it at work and has not got it set up at home. But his laptop can connect to the internet at home, presumably through a system on his neighbours computer. While surfing the net on someone elses PC sounds good it must have security implications. keep your answers in simple terms as I am not a computer expert. Charlie

I have just spoken to Peter Our decision is that the Competition WILL NOT be held tomorrow because of the forecast and the swells that are currently in the channel. We have decided to postpone 1 week at this stage. Sorry for the short notice Charlie

Hi Paul Ref the dogfish, they are quite nice to eat occasionally. Spike Spears of Bessie Vee showed me a good method that takes all the effort out of skinning them. We will have to go out fishing as its far easier shown than explained, and with practice and a sharp knife takes about a minute or two per fish. I have no reservations of taking a few of these fiosh as they seem to be fast growing and abundant. Can someone turn the wind down a bit, I have been off all week and all the days I could fish its been windy Charlie

Hi Adam Yes there is a comp on the books for this Sunday Its the last of our species comps, and there are a few positions that could change At this stage the weather forecast is poor so please remember to let us know you are going, in case we have to postpone. I too have not been out for ages so am keen but not so keen to get out in the rough water. we were at Portland Bill today [Ashore] the races looked fantastic but the weather was for to rough for boating Charlie

Kam you hit the nail on the head the fish if killed on Ow Much will definatly be eaten, by Neil or Humphrey. I have fished with them both many times and nothing gets mistreated on that boat. even mackeral are kept alive or dispatched humanly. They may keep some fish for the table but both of them put an awful lot more than most of us [ They fish often and catch their share] back alive. Charlie

Humphrey phoned me about this one just after it was caught, and the weight was going between 12lb and 17lb in very rough weather. As it was so close to the Club record of 13lb they decided to bring the fish in for certified weighing, unfortunatly the shops were closed when they got back so the fish was weighed on scales from a charter boat on the Jetty. Adam you will have to get very close to the Club record to beat that one, but I expect there are fish out there that are bigger just need the wind to ease down a bit. Charlie

Hi Guys this thread is proving very interesting. Dave I could as you say re-engine the boat for more speed but that would mean a bigger engine box and even less space which is the main reason we are looking for a bigger boat. I like the Arvors and know that the two Members who own the bigger 25's are happy with them as are the owners of the slightly smaller ones. Perhaps we need a sea trial on one of the 25's [Hint Hint Jack] We are in the difficult discussion stage, should we change, what too,how big, should we buy new, part built or second hand. ETC ETC ETC Its getting confusing at the moment we have just spent 2 days in Cornwall/Devon looking at boats, and had an interesting sea trial of a jet drive offshore in this mornings wind. throwing the drive in reverse as you top a 10 foot swell is a cool trick and stops the power dive down the wave a treat. but its an expensive drive system and tricky at slow speed docking. saying that we were flat out in very rough water and the boat although light felt very safe. Sorry to correct you Sam The Bass was caught on Ow Much but by Neil B [who is a member] not by Humphrey It weighed 12lb 10oz ashore when they came in nice one Neil, and of course H for putting him in the right place charlie

Hi All Looks like Duncan beat me to that one thanks mate We hope to be printing the list to hand out at registration, but they are already available as Duncan points out 40lb eels are not that common to the scales Duncan Tight lines Charlie

Thanks Duncan All these things have to be considered in the overall picture IMHO all boating is a compromise of costs/speeds/stability faster boats that are built light are not that stable faster heavy planing boats are more expensive to run but stable at rest and heavier shaft driven boats are stable but slower, but these can be made faster with bigger heavier engines that then become expensive to run. Its all back to choice, how big a crew you carry and what else you want to use the boat for. If it were just me a small boat with an economic engine would be fine, but with a normal crew of 3 plus me we are starting to look for somthing bigger and faster, with better facilities Charlie

I am not sure what the average fuel consumption of a volvo 240 on a leg should be but I was on a boat on wed, 26 ft hull 240 volvo on a leg The boat was used bassing in the race at Portland and averaged 12 ltrs per hr at about 24 knots that makes 1 ltr hr for an MI21 a bit thirsty. I will ask Gary What his offshore uses,in fact I will call him now He says he has never really checked that closely but the 12 ltrs an Hr seems about right, he also states that he is happy with what he gets out of Prodigy 32 knots flat out. and she carry's everything so is probably fairly well loaded. Hi guys Its friday night which seems to be sole night at this time of year, so I thought an update was in order I had a report yesterday that the Club record for sole has now increased to 2lb 2oz caught by John Peck last week He also reported a Mackeral of 2lb 2oz which equals the Club record and his Dads Brill of 8lb 8oz which beats his own Club record caught in 2004. I knew when the phone went that there would be some good fish, because they catch plenty but only record a few good ones. Three record fish in a week way to go Lady Margeret Charlie

Adam its a bit late for this season but I suggest getting in touch with Ken early next year he will send you a kit. The Canula [ spike to pierce the skin and insert the tag] needs attaching to a short stick 25 cards are included and instructions of which measuements to take. I find the effort involved rewarding and wish I had found more fish to tag this year When I first started I thought I would need at least 25 tags per season but you do not tend to, on the days when the fish are packing they tend to come to fast And slower days are sometimes so slow a change of species is called for. Charlie

Hi all Yes Rich is right I have been taking part in this program for years but the bigger fish get rarer every year. best by a member this summer is 40lb. only fish over 10lb are deemed able to cope with the stress of tagging. I have an admiration of sharks of all species and would not wish to damage one, but do not mind weighing measuring and tagging them for the program. the process is quite simple and ken Collins is well keen to get interested people involved. I did get several packs which were spread around some of the Members of the Club but I am not sure if many bothered to use them and send the record cards in. When the pack tope are in attendance the fishing can sometimes be far to exciting to bother with the cards. although tagging and minimal info is better than nothing. I can give you more info or you can contact Ken via the website Charlie

Enjoyed the best of todays weather with a very nice trip to the French side of the channel on mats cracking boat Bliss 2 0700 saw me, both boys and Paul J meeting up with Matt, Dean and Matt's dad Fred to load up their evo 33 with all the gear for a late season wreck trip. A steady steam and a couple of cups of tea later saw us drifting a deep water wreck. on the first drift we were into small pollack and a few more drifts brought more small fish. Matt decided to try for better fish on another wreck 6 miles away, so after another cup of tea and a bit of filliting we again set up for a drift. this wreck seemed to hold better fish with Sam and I both getting better fish on the first drift. a few more pollack and a gurnard later the tide eased and we set the anchor to see if we could tempt somthing to come out of the wreck, the breeze at slack water was just enough to swing us about the wreck rather than where we aimed to be and at slack all we had were pout and LSD. [40 miles from home and bloody dogfish ] Dean then had a much better fish on, which resulted in a good Bull Huss of 11lb For the last of the slack we decided to slow drift the wreck, and Dean was again into another good Fish, this time a lovely cod of 17lb As Dean had never caught ether of these species before I think Chuffed would be an understatement. 1630 saw us start the long haul home with the lovely sunset seeing us rounding Durleston and the boat arriving on her mooring just after dark. Thanks matt for a great day on your boat, the boys and I really enjoyed it
