  1. Just a point Guys there was a lot of discussion about the way fish are weighed at sea during the last meeting. I do not think that tongue in cheek comments that are not obviously jokes will help matters. remember to weigh the fish as carefully as possible and accept the minimum weight , not the average or the maximum Charlie
  2. If in doubt James have it weighed in a shop, or bring it here to be weighed on the clubs new scales. Charllie
  3. As Sam said I have just recieved a copy of this report from Ken Collins who now runs the UK Shark Tagging Program I have offered my whole scale support of any effort to support the stand against any commercial fishery for these fine fish. I have invited Ken to address the club at one of our future meetings, but I need to discuss this with the Committee/Members prior to firming up a date at the end of the year. Nice to see the NFSA are reacting and playing the value of recreational fishing card, now that the government have actually realised that there is a value that can be placed on it and that value is high. perhaps there is a little light at the end of the tunnel at last. Charlie
  4. Matt pick a day when I am working, as the weather is usually better. Charlie
  5. Nice one mate should have dropped it in your mates lap, that would wake him up Charlie
  6. Please send in the catch reports guys I do not pick sizes off of the forum to add to the book, as its not always me that reads them on this PC and I miss a few posts Charlie
  7. Try a float fished or freelined live or dead mackeral next time and expect the take to be explosive, so set the clutch fairly light Tight lines charlie
  8. "Where is my Rubber" had them all pencilled in Rich Tighter linmes next time mate Charlie
  9. James Isn't the new arrival supposed to make you to tired for such concentrated fishing. I thought the rest of us were going to have a chance now. Nice reports and some nice fish well done mate charlie
  10. If you believe the press Chris Martin a Conger Guru from Newhaven and the BCC likes to target big eels on the stronger part of the tide over wrecks, while the rest of us prefer the easier to fish slacker periods. perhaps its easier to set the boat up in the stronger tidal flow than to be blown about at slack water by the changing winds. Peter perhaps you would like to comment on this one from all your wrecking experiances. Charlie
  11. New Club Record well done James nice one Charlie
  12. Hi as said elsware the tides did not seem to agree with the tidal books on Sunday. Without trying to scare you off I did try and warn you last week about the strong tides at peveril, I have seen diving RIBs and fishing boats in the S~~t there, so only a place for kayaks at or around slack tide. even in my 18ft Dory I avoided it when you could see the overfalls on an ebbing tide. Glad that you were safe though after deciding not to continue fighting the tide [very strong ebbing and makes it very rough even beyond the ledge due to the continuous rough terrain], and a nice report Tighter lines, and less tired limbs next time I hope Charlie
  13. Jack When the kids are on holiday perhaps you and Andy would like to take us out. I will take you to a wreck where it usually takes less than/about 2 seconds for a pout to find any worm sent down. The small ones can then be treated to some steel and sent back for the eels. Charlie
  14. Nice day but the tides were odd we went to fish a bank for the last 90 min of the flood to find a dead slack tide short move but no tide so fishing was very slow just mackerel and wrasse to 1lb 8oz moved right inshore to get away from all the fast powerboats zooming around, met up with prodigy for tea and bacon sarnies and let Daniel have a swim. not fishing really but a nice day Charlie
  15. I asked Sam if he fancied a go and he admitted that he is to lazy for all the work involved. Mind you paddling to Southbourne rough sounds like effort to me too. I have a video from New Zealand of how they use kayaks to transport themselves to inaccessable rocky coastlines for game fishing. If you would like a look let me know. Keep up the great sport Charlie
  16. I hope to be out tomorrow jack I may go west if I do I will call you and risk your repellant will be over ridden by the boys luck. Tight lines Charlie
  17. Hi Durlestone Head and west around the corner give you more chance of a tope. and calm water under the cliffs. Drifting close in there are plenty of large wrasse and small pollack plus bass if the tides are against you use the back eddy in close to the shore to work them into your favour Ie on the Ebb a houndred yards out you will be moving west south west but 40 to 50 yards out and you will be heading in the opposite direction. I use this to ease the motoring against a big tide so it should help you with your paddling. Please be very aware how strong the tides are, how rough the tides can make peveril ledge and durlestone head area and stay safe. try and avoid these areas in the middle of the tide. Tight lines I may be out on sunday so if you see great white say hello. call me if you are in problems VHF channel 6 or my mobile 07887 794716 Charlie
  18. Cool photo's I like Tope fishing but would not have thought it possible from a Kayak. Nice one. If we organised our boats as well as you guys do your Kayaks, we could get about ten anglers onboard. We too take the odd table fish so are not paranoid about putting everything back. However looking after this sport for the future is very dear to my heart. Tight lines charlie
  19. While many of us may enjoy the odd can while afloat, being drunk in charge of the boat is madness if you are intending to steam around. I am sure while anchored for an overnight stay common sense has to prevail. I am also sure that if this law stops the idiots in power boats getting tanked up and then driving there boats through the harbour, we should all be pleased Most of these people only have slight idea of what they are doing sober, so add drink and they are an accident waiting to happen. I am sure Frank would agree after last years incident with Sheila Marie and a far from sober powerboat driver. Charlie
  20. Nice one and well done you Tght lines for the giltheads Charlie

  22. Hi Zzippy and welcome Enjoy the site and its forum Charlie
  23. Hi I replaced some of my electronics 18 months ago I was shopping for a combined set, garmin colour But after viewing them all at the London show decided that the screen was quite small, and when used split for two modes and navigation info, usable screen sizes were to small. Had I the budget to opt for a 10" screen I may have gone for a combined unit For less money I chose the Lowrance Global Map 5000c a 6" screen and a Lowrance 105Df colour fish finder. they have been fitted for 18 months and I am happy with my choice. Perfect visability from the brightest day to full dark plenty of power and definition in the FF ability to store info on a user card and edit at home operation is easy once you get used to it. Two sets means that I should never really lose both on a fishing trip for an internal problem, therefore I could still find somwhere to fish. A combined unit goes down and you could be going home early I am glad I went to colour, its much easier to pick out the info you are looking for on both sets. Going to the next sets in the lowrance range increases the screen size slightly and doubles the definition and price so its all about budget really. If you would like to see the set up, arrange a good time and I will take them to the boat so you can have a look. I think you can see some detail in the photo Charlie
  24. Duncan Very sorry to hear that you boat has suffered from a visit from the scum that can not work to pay for their tackle. I hope it was reported to the MARINE SECTION OF THE POLICE, they seem to have good knowledge of who commits these sort of break ins and are the only ones who have any success with these matters IMHO 01202 223276 Sounds like your fishing was very good, but can I cast doubt on a 15lb spotted. is it a typo as its well above the british record I really enjoy getting amongst the tope, its nice to hear that a few are about after a slow atart. Charlie
  25. Hi terry over the years I expect all our gear has got lighter with the need to maximise sport from each fish and braid making 3lb plus leads just a bad memory. I like to use uptiders when I can, or even lighter rods, my latest spinning rod is 30gram casting weight and it bends like a trout rod. Lovely but my favorite heavy rod is a well trusted 30lb class kevlar and carbon north western with a good roller tip. its about 8ft long and has a good action. while it does bend well when into a good fish, I am always enjoying myself a lot when I get them. whatever make you or your budget chooses, there probably is no need to go beyond a 30 lb class. IMHO for a lighter downtide rod Sam has just received the ABU conolon he won, which is the one Martin mentioned and is a very nice rod. I hope that helps a bit Charlie
