  1. Nice to join you out there at the end of the day Adam Shame that we were an hour late and missed Slack. but nothing could be done about that. Thanks for the mackerel to get us started. Sods Law that as soon as we had baits down and put feathers over we caught plenty. We had a few tope to about 15lb and lost plenty more, they were biting a bit shy at times, but we also had 3 rods going at once which is fun when there is only 2 anglers The 42mtr hole we were fishing in had some nasty sharp bits in it and we lost several good fish when the line parted just after setting the hook or on the strike. The leader or the braid came in very frayed, I was getting fed up with it by the end. more for the thought of fish being left trailing the traces than losing the gear and the chance to play the fish. I have a day off today so was thinking of staying out, but as Rich is working and the tide was still running hard at 2330 we called it a night. By then we had lost all the 2lb leads due to the sharp bottom. I had a nice Blonde Ray of 19lb on my uptider just after you left as the tide was getting going. It was hell to get to the boat in the tide, but went back OK after photo's. [The uptider went away after that one] A good mark, I think a few eels would have come out at Slack Water in the dark. I expect we may see you out there again before to long. Tight lines Charlie
  2. Well it wasn't him Charlie
  3. Float fishing is the method for Blue sharks in the west country but we tend to get our tope near the bottom so you would need to fish deep. Go a few miles further west than the grounds and drift. in the deep water with the gear on or just above the seabed Charlie
  4. I may be out with Wendy on Sunday as at least 1 of the kids is away. let me know where you are going and we may join you. I will not be getting in the Ringo, the last I saw the water temp was 11 degrees. I am decorating late nights this week in the hope of an evening trip on Thursday. Anyone available who fancys a short trip? we may be able to join Tara/Blue Warrior if she is staying late It depends on weather and how the painting goes as the carpet is being fitted Tue and I had better be ready, or her indoors will stop my privilages. Charlie
  5. True the Silver Eels do work They swear by them up in the Thames estuary, Where it is shallow and Muddy, so you can see why. A very good friend of mine Spike Spears of Bessie Vee out of Pompey has several good anglers from that part of the world who insist on using them. but he still says he catches more on fresh mackeral. use what you can get fresh is a good plan. and LSD do not tend to take heads or live mackeral. Bait was so short on sunday I nearly used LSD fillets as hook bait. Charlie
  6. Paul After 11 months of Daniel telling Sam how to catch big tope and taking the mickey out of Sams best of 14lb Guess who is rubbing it in now? There is a lot of My fish is bigger than your fish at the tea table in my house at the moment. Still it was their idea to stop bream fishing and it was great to see an early big fish. we will be taking the butt pads next time though, as a rolled up towel down the shorts does not work so well. Charlie
  7. Thanks for passing that on to the website Paul. Glad I dont launch at Christchurch by the sound of it. Poole harbour entrance on a bank Holiday is bad enough for me. Charlie
  8. That should be read as Garfish minus the beak. Taken off to try and stop the bait spinning on decent. Charlie
  9. I think territorial waters is the 12 mile line I am fairly certain that even without looking the RIPs are outside that. I will see if I can check for you. Charlie
  10. Can I have a report of fish caught and weights for the competition and the book. I am afraid I will need better than about ....lbs, The comps are run on trust but the fish need to be weighed. End of Sermon Glad everyone had a great day out and for most the fish were biting. The turnout was very good so thanks to all that made the effort. Send me the info and i will try and get a report printed. Charlie
  11. Glad you had a good trip. You seemed to be busy all day. We only managed 4 Bream with a best of 2lb 5oz to me and 2lb to Daniel But as you saw I succumbed to the temptation of the deeper water and Tope fishing. With the complete lack of mackeral we used garfish for bait. Only had one but it was a cracker 45lb 8oz Charlie
  12. Duncan After trying most of the day on and off for mackeral with no success, managed 3 garfish. Tope caught on head of garfish - beak Charlie
  13. After being talked into trying for tope during slack water on the Clubs Bream competition. I was nearly as pleased as Sam when this beasty came along. Nice one son!

  17. As it had died its a shame that you did not bring it ashore to be weighed and certified. It sounds as if its time to bring some pressure to bear for your mark. Much better than the recent trips on GW Well done Charlie

  24. Hi all May is a good time for the RIPs 1 point you should note, last time we fished it [2 weeks ago] we were in 248ft of water. plenty of Pollack no COD. So if you are thinking of anchoring you will need a long warp. Tight lines Charlie
