  1. Well done whoever it was that called this in, and the lads in the RNLI The thing with dinghy sailors is they try so hard to right the boat themselves that they can get totally knackered and hypothermia starts to set in. Common sense starts to fade and self help becomes even harder, they probably never thought of walking the boat to the shore
  2. Happy birthday Dave I hope that you had a great day and good meal Thanks for all the messages guys, I had a great birthday and a really nice time with the boys at last nights meeting. The beer and banter were flowing freely
  3. See you neext month, LOL
  4. That is why we considered a move to new Zealand after our holiday there many years ago.
  5. As usual the forecast changes a lot from one site to another. we are on the borderline again, so I think I may start to think what I can do this weekend, rather than throw all my time and effort into preps for Alderney. that said I bet tonight is not going to be an Alderney free zone
  6. Thanks Guys CU tonight, one of the boys are driving I hope Charlie
  7. Gave Mark a call this morning just to touch base and check all was well with the accomadation now that it is all needed. The flatty fishing is a bit hit and miss, apparently numbers are down sizes are up. Good news is that the bait fish are showing on the banks, Mark also has some frozen ones in the shop. Fingers crossed for the weather
  8. Dan said he will come I will check with Sam and Will
  9. I have one in the car ready Martin Has anyone else been in the garden tonight getting the browny points in? Ref the meeting Monday or tuesday good for me about 7or 7.30 Charlie
  10. Where is Rob Fuller when you need him By now we would have had an animated drawing to look at. The way I tie it could not be simpler, but now I am starting to worry about weakening the Flourocarbon. Charlie
  11. I just snell mine on Adam, using a 3/0 pennel hook with the offset eye, I also use a bigger trailing hook than you sugest, mine are size 6 carp hooks So I may have missed refinements since we went together in 2008.Who knows how many fish that has cost me over all of the years since LOL

    Back job

Wow Graham Good luck with recovery Mate Hope the physio is not too painful
  13. Thanks Terry The boys are saving for mooring deposit, so no doubt would opt for a more basic menu. I can now discuss with Will in case we want to extend one of the days fishing a bit Looks like the Marais Hall on night one, and see where we go from there. Possibly book the moorings. Chris You are of very right mate Ref the Franklin flyer, If I remember I will pop one in my pocket on Thursday night to give/show you
  14. I had the same thing when I trailed [after i left the bung out once]
  15. Sounds great mate, no wonder that you are getting excited, I am bad enough just about the Alderney trip. It sounds like there may be several new boats that will miss this trip, but will be keen to organise a second one after the new shiney boats arrive. Have you any more pictures of her yet Charlie
  16. I am not starting that game yet Chris [says through lying teeth LOL] When are you back? There was some discussion on Sat about having a pre meeting Mon/tue evening next week at yours, if the weather looked fairly positive for the trip Rob its the Alderney Angling part that can add a big lump of costs to the trip. Hard to avoid this year as we are staying there I hope everyone are starting to get the buzz, I had to take it easy this weekend because of stitches, and must have been driving Wendy mad, with charts out to copy info onto my tablet and a few hours in the garage making Franklin flyer turbo traces and the like for my new rig holders. On the website again at work is not a good sign Wish I had a pound for every time I check this thread and weather sites in the next 10 days, [That would easily pay for the trip and tackle] Charlie
  17. Sounds like a few lessons were learnt in your first trip Always good to have a good idea of the tide times around here, as the harbour is big but generally not that deep. Also keep an eye on weather sites like wind guru, so that you can see what you may encounter whilst afloat, believe me the lads going to Alderneylwill be very carefully checking both over the next 10 days
  18. We usually plan on 2 hours either side of HW to be sure
  19. For the first bash out in your boat it may be a good idea to delay to a better day, than go in poor weather IMHO
  20. No problem Peter If nobody needs it I will call Mark I have just phoned Mainbrayce and they have confirmed that once again they will give us discount on Fuel prices and water taxi prices They can supply diesel and petrol Looking at the tide times it looks good to get into the inner harbour at the end of the day , they say that they would come down to top us up even if the office is closed. Fri HW 1712 Sat HW 1808 Sun HW 1854 He also asked me to remind me that if you order duty free from the shop, it will be dropped off at the boats just before departure by the water taxi. It may be worth putting their number in your phones 01481 822772 07781 415420 Sounds good to me Charlie
  21. Thanks Stuie but that would not open on my tablet
  22. I have accomadation booked at Alderney Angling for 6 (2 boat crews) Because of a late change 1 bed is now available Does anyone need accomadation, or fancy a change from sleeping onboard Also I am struggling with downloading the braye tide times, could someone put a link on here Charlie, starting to feel the buzz now
  23. Getting close now Have sat down this morning to start looking at tides etc Route may depend on our buddy boat/boats Have I missed any discussions about evening plans?
  24. The flyers will always slam in the wrong conditions, but on a good day they are an excellent fishing boat. Mine was heavily built, and fitted with a 2 stroke 60. She went very well and was as safe as houses. Alfresco is just like a bigger version, on some days we have to slow her down to stop shaking out the fillings, but on others we can cover the miles very well. horses for courses and all that.
  25. Sounds like a good idea to talk it over I will be at the meeting next week.
