Looks like a late pass will see me in the car park on a charter boat Sunday. Still waiting for my first cod of the year....at least I don't have Niggle next to me scaring them off. Neal

We were the top boat out of the 25 Boats in the competition - with 6 cod. Two anglers had 2 each and 2 other anglers had 1 each. Approximately 74 cod were weighed in by 43 anglers. Some boats caught no cod at all. The largest fish was just over 21lb. It was a shame that we couldn't get out of the Solent but everyone has the same chance of success wherever it is fished. One day I will catch one on this comp! Neal

An old retired sailor puts on his old uniform and heads for the docks once more, for old times sake. He engages a prostitute and takes her up to a room. He's soon going at it as well as he can for a guy his age, but needing some reassurance, he asks, 'How am I doing?' The prostitute replies, 'Well, old sailor, you're doing about three knots.' 'Three knots?' he asks. 'What's that supposed to mean?' She says, 'You're knot hard, you're knot in, and you're knot getting your money back'.

Whilst out yesterday my crew, John caught a small Bream. It was immediately clear to me that it wasn't the usual species caught in the harbour i.e. Black Bream or Gilt Head Bream. Unfortunately John just flicked it straight back into the see without looking closely! Looking at the aquarium project I would suggest it was a Couches Bream http://web.ukonline.co.uk/aquarium/pages/couchsseabream.html Has anyone else ever seen or caught one locally. I haven't listed it as a species as I can't verify it! Neal

We went out to the same mark that produced a few Rays a couple of weeks ago - but where I have also had Cod! I was half hoping that a cod might make an appearance - but didn't try too hard. Also tried an experiment - my 2 crew fished with shop bought squid, whilst I used a bit of Sam Coles squid left over from the open comp........... Well it out-fished the normal stuff by about 4 to 1 - or maybe just coincidence! Results Neal - Blonde Ray 19lb 2oz Neal - Blonde Ray 23lb 6oz plus small eyed rays and small blondes, a constant stream of doggies and a few Gurnard. Neal

The Charter boats that I have been on that use microwaves or cookers almost always have a separate generator to run them. They are quite noisy and even if they dont have them, they need the engine running. This I find an intrusion on the (relative) peace and quiet I enjoy whilst fishing. Neal

Having looked out past the Chain Ferry myself on Saturday it was immediately obvious that it was unsafe. The strong easterly combined with an ebbing spring tide makes it worse. A couple of the larger charter boats spent a short time bassing between the ferry and the first red channel buoy - but no further. So to suggest that it was a freak wave which capsized the boat is a little bit of an exageration. It all looked dangerous to me! It is in situations like this that perhaps the RNLI should be able to charge for rescue. I hope it wasn't one of our club boats!!! Neal

Hi Adam, I vaguely remember something about us getting a good deal on handheld VHf - can you recall where from, how much etc and was it dependent on numbers purchased. Neal

Hi guys, Just a reminder......... last years first prize was a gurnard caught on Poole Patch. Gaz and Jackie caught their fish off Southbourne rough. most other prizes came from marks within half a mile from the shore. The tides have been picked for the smaller boats not to compete with large boats going miles offshore to bag up on congers and such. We will make sure that anyone who wants to fish will get a place (plaice!)on a boat Neal Be lucky

Hi Mark, As a club member (ignore Rob's inability to check your member status) you will find in the club section some basic information on places to fish and their approximate location. I would highly recommend that you :- Attend a club meeting (first thursday of each month in Parkstone). To introduce yourself. Look for crew or offer to crew on other club boats. Try and buddy up with other club boats out on the same day. Using the knowledge that can be gained from "joining in" will save you years of searching on your own. Look forward to seeing you out there and catching a few! Neal
