Yesterday I had my first inshore trip on a small boat since last July when Alun invited me aboard Gastronaut to search out a few bass. I was very exited. The weather was not as ordered with overcast skys, a very brief shower and quite a chilling wind on the water. Mackerel were not easy to find but they were there, just being a bit elusive. First cast and I'm into my first bass for a year, nicely hooked in the upper lip so it gave a good account of itself; about 6lbs of bristling spikes. After this encouraging start I knew it was going to be a good day. I must have upset someone upstairs because that was my last one to come to the net. Alun landed one that was an exact copy of mine shortly afterwards and, apart from dropping a few more, that was it. Still a good day out in anyone's book and especially for me, a real treat. I found the day really tiring, it's much easier on a bigger boat. I'm sure I could launch my boat but would definitely struggle recovering it so I'll stick to invitations for a while yet. Many thanks to Alun for being my carer for the day, I now have bass fillets for supper and a good supply of mackerel for hot smoking, which will keep Dilys happy. Terry.

No, not the same one Jim. I looked at that one but it is not as versatile. That one only uses the bags they sell so one cannot cut lengths of tubed bagging to any length or width required. However, a small tip I picked up was that one company sells strips of some sort of material that go into the top of the bag to stop liquid preventing heat sealing. I have started using folded kitchen towel and it does the same thing. Try to avoid washing fillets in fresh water prior to packing also helps in the process. Terry.

I don't think it would stand up to the amount I use mine, Rob. As well as fish I use it for game (right up to venison) and meat I bring back from Scotland when I'm fishing or shooting up there. However, if it does what you want, a bargain indeed. Terry.

I've had correspondence with the distributor and, yes, it is the same product. It's made in Australia and some of their paperwork shows Salt-X. The price for one litre concentrate (makes 35ltrs when diluted which I keep in a spray) is

Good call Stuart, looks like the same stuff with a different name. Same 3 products, Salt Off (Salt-X), Salt Off super concentrate and odour remover (Phew Go). I have contacted them for details of cost, postage, etc. If anyone else is interested, let me know and I'll see what I can do for a discount. It really does clean up pliers, scissors, reels; anything really that is affected by salt corrosion. Terry.

Nice thought Jim but, wrong stuff. Salt-X is for using on boat parts and fishing reels, etc, to not only inhibit the effects of salt but also to get rid of the effects when one has, perhaps, forgotten to soak in fresh water. Good stuff! Terry.
