I was out with a local friend and what a glorious day to be on the water. I decided to give The Bridge a go first as my friend's wife likes bass. A very slow drift speed and dirty water seemed a bad combination and, predictably, nothing stirred. Then a move to the Ledge to try for bream and, again predictably, some bar steward was on 'my' usually dependable mark, we tried nearby but, annoyingly, his catch rate exceeded ours. However, we caught bream and kept a few for home consumption. Doggies outnumbered the bream by about 3:1. Plaice then beckoned but, again with the lack of movement, .3-.4kn, and the decidedly murky water, nothing much doing and we only added a couple of small gurnard, a doggie and slipper limpets to the tally; where have they all come from? Having got bored, we decided to have a little cruise and went to socialise with Gummage (Martin) who appeared to have been having a 'Gummage' sort of day. Nice to catch up though. On the way back in, we saw Allan on Fisheagle waiting for the Town bridge, no such problem for me, not having radar does pay off sometimes, I hope he had a better day. I was really surprised back in the marina upon checking my log for the day to find we had done 49 nautical miles, surprising how it adds up. I really must do better at coordinating good weather with decent tides, that's twice now. Terry.

Sorry. Terry.

Is this any good? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/194883058663?chn=ps&_ul=GB&norover=1&mkevt=1&mkrid=710-134428-41853-0&mkcid=2&mkscid=101&itemid=194883058663&targetid=2406300041925&device=c&mktype=pla&googleloc=9191608&poi=&campaignid=22321085244&mkgroupid=175260283623&rlsatarget=pla-2406300041925&abcId=10228678&merchantid=115117439&gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAjwtdi_BhACEiwA97y8BIFpJEb34iU7bdkyQ8sIL6u5aYi76SPzVgSTSr9vUC8X__H_VjVfzhoCz_QQAvD_BwE Terry.

The only reason for asking was, although I recommended Lowrance kit, unfortunately, the Eagle line are what they call their 'more accessible' series. Although somewhat cheaper than the alternatives, they are built as very good sounder/fish finders but save on some of the other features like the chart plotter and connectivity options. I went for the Elite FS9 and am absolutely delighted with it BUT, it comes in at probably £300 more than your option. As they always say, you pays your money and makes your choice. Terry.

I assume Karl fitted the option you chose? Terry.

.......and did you remember to use it? 😉 Terry.

Which I don't! Good idea, hadn't thought of that. Terry.

It WAS the Pelican. I wouldn't have thought something that big could sneak up on you! Terry.

I think we saw them, we stopped briefly by the Castle and they passed us going in, they returned to the Lifeboat academy. Terry.

A stunning trip, lucky crew. I had a similar trip back to Cobb's from Southbourne but without the advantage of radar or experienced crew, that was fun but no big dramas fortunately. Whilst going down the small boats channel, I suddenly spotted the biggest blue ship I've seen in Poole on my starboard side in the main channel, probably about 40 yards away. I hadn't spotted it at all until that point despite two pairs of eyes keeping watch. Scary! Terry.

All this lovely sunshine, I'm getting very excited and not a little impatient. Come on bream! Terry.

I know you've all been on the edge of your seats wondering how this went so, new pump fitted and everything working as it should. Now I see exactly how it works, Charlie's comment makes more sense. Terry.
-
Which bowl, Charlie? Surely not the toilet bowl? Terry.
-
Next trip down was going to include servicing the toilet flushing pump as it's never been used and all the washers etc have gone hard and it sprays the cabin instead of the toilet bowl. Number one daughter is making demands. Oh joy! messing around in tight corners in a smallish cabin. Then I discovered that, for not much money, I can replace the pump complete which just involves removing a couple of bolts and a couple of screws; simples! I can then take the old unit home and service it in the garage giving me a spare, the service kit came with the boat. Much happier, then a tidy up and polish in the cabin and good to go. Can't be long now? Terry.

I think this is just to get an idea of numbers and raise interest. Registering, I would imagine, will come nearer the time. Terry.

In the diary, decent weather expected. Terry.

Slight confusion from this end, Do we not use one or the other system across the board or are individual species on different scales? If not, why not? Terry.

The way I read it Jim was the wood was to frame it, perhaps I misunderstood. Terry.

A vote for Charlie and Martin, I went for Lowrance which does everything I want it to and it was fitted by Karl with one or two other jobs, all professionally done. He's done several jobs for me, all very satisfactory. Terry.

Slippery slope, Mal! It could end up with grammar and spelling checks on most posts and none of us want that. Although I could be tempted. 😉 Terry.

Surely, you just need one of these https://www.screwfix.com/p/titan-2-way-multi-tap-adaptor-1-2-1-/435PT?gclsrc=aw.ds&ds_rl=1249410&ds_rl=1241687&ds_rl=1245250&gad_source=1&ds_rl=1247848&ds_rl=1245250&gclid=Cj0KCQiA4rK8BhD7ARIsAFe5LXKw_PacAKVcLtEIky3hueGW6edvzlvfykJJ4Cb-LvV0w6rLJ6yOdQgaAmF9EALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds a couple of short lengths of hose and another pair of muffs if this will be a regular thing. Terry.

I think I have an answer, how about using cormorants for pot bait? Win/win? Terry.
-
I wonder, if cormorants are part of the problem, whether it may be worth trying deeper spots in the harbour such as along the side of the main channel where we used to go for plaice and flounders. I haven't noticed that many of the black buggers up there. Terry.
