Andy rang me Sat evening,"do you fancy a float about tomorrow ? probably be crap.but its better than hanging about at home.Better make it 10'oc,for the 10.30 bridge.".No sneaking under that morning it was really well up at 10.30. Virtualy no-one about as we steamed to the entrance, not a good sign, others perhaps had more sense than we did. Wind was cold to raw North-east.The run out past Old harry, was not too bad,but a very rough set of ovefalls could be seen.In the strong ebbing tide. We headed down south into a good swell, presumably from the last few windy days, and dropped anchor onto our mark ,where the boat demonstrated just how much it could roll without actually throwing you overboard. Heavy spatters of rain added to our joy,as our breath made little steam clouds,Oh ,the pleasures of Winter fishing against sitting at home near the fire.Baits out, hide in the cabin with heater running ,drinking tea. This was more like it !!.So on until 1.30.pm. When the tide and wind eased off a bit,and I'm blowed the sun came out.Out came the Directors chair, and tucked in behind the cabin,I settled down for a little snooze. Not a ruddy chance,we were pestered by fish after fish,In the next two hour period ending at 3,30 when we decided to call it Quits,we brought aboard.6 dogfish;4 Pollack;1.blonde Ray;and 6 Bass. That made up for most of our blank days during the summer. All fish were put back out of gratitude for our luck.Roll on the next Winter expedition.!!..jack

When considering which side to fit your Aux engine bracket, bear in mind that, although it looks neater overall, the "inside" is next to useless !!..I will get my coat. jack

Thanks Terry, that is the one.I had it ready to use, but un-opened {no prize for guessing why }. when my PC bit the dust. But as I caught a FISH on sunday I thought I would use it....only to discover,it was amongst the many other lost items. However on following the post links I see it was a "not perfect" jobbie. So I will wait until our Resident Genius comes up with the Rolls Royce version,as I am sure he will once he stops catching all the fish, for a winter break..Thanks all.. jack

Andy and I have a 12" piece of 1". stainless bar.A milled hand grip at one end, with a hole drilled through to take a lanyard. A rolls royce among priests. .......................................................................................................................Cant say how efficient it is.Its still in it's original pristine condition. jack

Hi Duncan,I dont have the No.s here at home.I will note them when next on the boat..I did'nt,lose the fish as such,it got my lead or hook snagged in,and was tugging about at the trace end.We tried all sorts to free it,but in the end the braid snapped or wore through. The area we were fishing is proper Anchor losing territory. jack

Andy and I set out in total calm on Sunday morning from Cobbs.Passed an apropriatly attired gent fishing at anchor from a Kayak in the run down to the Bridge. Out across the harbour with only one other boat on the move.Glassy conditions. This is it,we thought, never mind worming in the harbour, distant horizons for us. Out to Old Harry,wonderful...3 mile beyond a little chop on..,4mile out slightly wobbly,. 5 mile from Harry, definitely livelier..7 mile and on the mark, gusty, and lumpy.Anchored up,good big baits down and find something to hold on to !.Boat rolling well in North westerly cross wind easily 4 and rising.Good bite on one rod but jammed in and had to break out [after a struggle] should I put a weaker link in somewhere?.50lb braid and 100lb trace. In the next hour a couple more bites,2 doggies. Now the wind is coming in large gusts, actually knocking the boat sideways, and there is white tops and blown spray.God knows whats happened to the weather [ he should,as he's controlling it ].we decide to move inshore and have to break out all four rods,[charming]. Luckily the good old Alderny system worked well and we head in,Cabin door closed and waves smashing over the bow.More like the North Atlantic than Poole bay..Within 1 mile of Old Harry and we are settled again.Fished close in ,in a piddling tide with a variable cross wind ,and even the sea anchor could'nt keep us in a sensible stable positon. After 2 more little doggies we gave up and came in.Our kayak fisherman was now close to the chain ferry, and took the opportunity to hone his skills on our passing wake.If he had just asked me,I could have sent him where he could have got some good practice.Needless to say the flags at Cobbs were hanging limp against thier poles as we put the boat away.Oh well theres always next time. And Andy still thinks it beats working... jack

Reminds me of a programme I watched the other night about a major conversion of a special " one off " motor vehicle. The builder took the advice of the mate of a mate, who had been in the Royal engineers motor division. The part arrived after 10 days of hold up on the project and would not fit or be suitable for the job.On further investigation it turned out that the "mate of a mate" had been the civilian catering manager at the Army base.!!...jack

As much as rescue of inadaquates irks you. It has to be done [from multiple experience] Yor concience is clear,I am sure the temptation to leave it to someone else can be really tempting especialy if you are engaged in something important to yourself. However having been rescued myself, following a series of unbelievable happenstances,I know how it feels to be "passed by"....Good for you !!..jack
