    nice one Duncan.........well done Wedge
  2. Thanks chaps I have flip down gadget mast and arial so there's not much else to do there. 'spose I just need to get out there and see what's what. Any comments on Cobb's? T
  3. Thank you Duncan, Confucius he say.............. Better having to wait for bridge to go up......... than microwave brains before lunch.........
  4. I'm aware that one or two members (Maverick I'm sure) regularly launch from Cobbs. What's the form? Do you book or just turn up? Any general tips would be useful. I just thought also about headroom for the bridge. Having never gone under it, I was wondering if it's tall enough for Otter, tide permitting Any tips gratefully received. Wedge
  5. Adam,...........(deep breath). Subject to final details................ 'Otter' will be out. T
  6. Oh yus M8 2500lbs of pull Bit OTT for this boat, but came quite cheap and only just second hand Mike, you will know but for the benny of others you are, of course, only sledging your boat onto the trailer and the pull required is relative to the gradient of the slip. ( in lay language). EG, At 0 degrees (level ground) with good rollers you could push a large boat along a trailer. If you're on the max for your winch on a steep incline, you could use a snatch block and simply double up. This halves the speed of retrieve but near doubles the relative pulling power of the winch........ ish. Where can you get a 'leccy winch for 60 squid ? T
  7. For convenience...... plugs into vehicle so you don't need a battery on ya trailer. keeps it away from seawater. I intend to carry a manual winch, just as back-up.
  8. Capable of pulling back one of these
  9. Aaaaaaaaaaah......... Mike You need one of these........
  10. Fantastic I am a little jellyarse Well done chaps . What a break from the Winter blues. T
  11. Toerag, Thanks for the tip chap. I'll have a look around.
  12. Coddy Yus M8..... With 58 female supervisors you've just got to get ya head down and at least look busy.
  13. Thanks guys No new antifouling yet..... Now we've had a chance to get right underneath it actually doesn't look all that bad, so we'll probably leave that until a mooring is immanent.... Maybe a smooth off and a lick over where we've been working. The worst of the knobbly bits was on the trim tabs, but I took these off and polished them right back to the stainless. I wouldn't say we're nearly finished as with all these older craft there's ALWAYS something to do. The work so far perhaps hasn't taken too long but we're first timers at most jobs so it needs a little more thought for us. We intend really to make her sound, safe, and seaworthy............. polish and pampering comes later. There's a few bumps and scrapes to repair to tidy her up a bit, but really more cosmetic than urgent. We're going to sneak out for a potter around shortly, for the familiarising phase. See ya on the tide. Pressure's on now as the Wilson Flyer has new owners and gone, and the Aquapeche 400 isn't quite up to St alban's. Adam you're on........... All you need to bring is ya tackle and some numbers........ Have a great time in Alderney Tight lines T
  14. We finally got Otter off her trailer and chocked up with the new props I made yesturday. Seeing her off the trailer at last is a relief.........light at the end of the tunnel. Old keel strap off in an hour or so, with another hour to clean down ready for the new stainless one. Just a few hours of careful drilling stainless now before the fit over the next week. See you on the water soon.

    Stress

......just sitting on the boat relaxing at last on Sunday, trying to let go of the stress and tension that had built up over many weeks of hard work and no fishing............ it occured to me in a blinding flash just what was happening to me.......... ..............right now I'm having amnesia and deja vu at the same time I think I've forgotten this before........

    Anchor Trip

Reg, Entirely a matter for the skipper, but I consider a pull from the stern to be potentially dangerous. There's been a few threads on this one but if you search back I referred to an event over St Albans ledge where an old friend almost lost his boat pulling from a stern cleat. Even a trip set anchor can lead to trouble on snaggy ground. T

  19. Not at all fishy at the momment chaps is it? I took the opportunity of going out of Poole with the new owners of my old Wilson Flyer. Zipped out to Studland for a demo and spent a jolly hour on the tide! Good to get out in spite of the lack of fish! Not very many boats about 'sept the 'Dress up fancy Poole Canoe Club' and a couple of Warriors. (PWC's don't count of course). Didn't have time to stop and chat but were the Warriors Club Boats ?? Anyway, you might get a couple of new members with a Wilson join before too long. Really nice chaps that enjoy the water but freshman to boat ownership. Roll on summer!!

    Copper?

Unless coated, personally I'd say not........... but then again I've seen a few bait tanks with copper fittings, so worth dropping some 'scrap' down to see how long it lasts. Not my first choice....... personally. If electrolysis is not an issue, in this instance , you may fair better . I've every chance of being wrong. Go on then Mike, I dare you............ Wedge
