  1. I wonder how old it was? During the summer I took scale readings from a group of bass in the 5-7.5lb range (all from the same mark and tide). All fell in the 11 & 12 year bracket. Does anyone else in the club look at this sort of stuff? Wedger
  2. Let me know what spec net you need. There's bound to be something in the fish farming world!

    Braid

Kam, In my view, there's no point at all in using braid for shark! You need maximum shock absorption that good sporting mono gives...... the bite detection is obvious Braid is quite durable in some circumstances, but its greatest asset is in straight line contact and feel, not abrasion resistance as some would advertise. Excellent point Steve!! I fished with a guy last month who lost about 8 + sets of gear before he twigged it ! (A bass as well )
  11. Adam, Great idea to have a club course! How many of us still need an 'operators certificate' I wonder? It could be quite economical for us with a decent group. It's time to start collecting Certs., licences & Quals. for me.

    Braid

Jack, Two knots for attaching shocker to braid main. just here Braid Knots I use the more complex one for most applications, specially the heavy stuff! Sound really too much but for light work with lures, where you might find the odd grunting fish , I use a mono trace of lesser strength than the braid, but have a double line of 2-3 rod lengths, just before terminal. This gives greater confidence at the net. ( you'll need a good 'bimini twist' for that setup ). With this one you can snap off the snags without loosing braid. You will regain high strength at boatside with two turns of double on the spool, and still maintain good shocker stretch for the divers. I know you can adjust the drag on your reel mid fight and achieve some of this, but I was always different. (I can't wait for the chaps to pick the bones out of this one )
  13. Are there any VHF/DSC cert. courses organized for the near future. I have one or two to add to the course! Wedger
  14. Martin, It's not all bad news 'cos points = Cod
  15. Points needed
  16. Nice to see the club has a spell checker working
  17. Coddy Ah! I forgot to ask a key question! Was he a CAC baliff or an Environment Agency Fisheries Officer? I hadn't realized you trolled all the way back to Wick, not Mudeford. However, the designated areas and laws/rules obviously still need clarifying . Wedger
  18. Did this Bailiff show you his official card first? and did he give you his name to match the card? and if he did, what was his name? ............. and where exactly did he say the river begins eeer.... or ends should I say? I am given to understand the foreshore begins below the high-water mark. As such this would mean that most of The Run is in fact sea, and not river, as the gravel bank opposite the key is submerged on big tides. I'm sure we have a member with the definitive answer, but if not, I have a pal in DEFRA who will tell us I'll wager. This is an important one to clear up as no doubt your chappy would claim that you were fishing for seatrout in the river some small men with big sticks do get it really wrong when over zealous.............frequently . Also, I understood that spinning was not allowed from the stakes above the beachhuts and upstream. Comments please!
  19. Good Luck buddy and tight lines............... I shall be watching you practice this week Cheers mi Chap

  22. Rich, Weather to me is anything 5+ Only had one experience in the last decade, and that was a 5+ wind across tide on 'Vomit Comet' Breakfast had a return trip after an hour (still the last to fall), then had a comfortable day. Skipper had a 'Full House' that day and he was the only one to stick it. Spoke to 'Rocket Ron' a few days ago. Lucky chap's off to fish the Amazon at Christmas. Hope he remembers to take a mac. Trev
