Thought I'd better get on with a few jobs on Otter this weekend as I'm 'gated' with work on call duty . Plenty of work to do yet before we venture out. New trap door to the under deck fuel tank, finish fitting the new fuel sender and gauge, new cooker to go in, clean the bog . Anyway, less mundane jobs to do as well so I set to and made a 'use anywhere live bait tank'. Materials: 25kg screw top plastic canoe small amount robust 5mm plastic mesh for screens 35w 12v blower......... smallest professional one I found but could run up to 4 of these tanks. (or one big one) diffusers (one for this size tank) 6mm pipe 6mm Rectus snap connector for air line small leisure battery I intend to make a second one, if the first proves successful. Air will be plumbed around the deck, under the gunwales out of the way, with rectus outlets at the key points. Rectus fittings are self sealing when disconnected so any amount can be fitted to the ring main. One or more tanks may then be hooked up out from stowage as required the returned to stowage for the return journey. There will be the need to freshen the water from time to time, with the odd bucket, both to reduce muck and keep the temperature down. Easily done through the mesh, without taking the lid off. An overflow is neatly positioned in one of the sunken handles. I'm looking for a small volume 12v water pump to negate the need for bucket work. This I would run with a relay for intermittent flow. This would reduce power consumption and reduce water on the deck. Any ideas chaps?

The other possibility of course is that it could just be the level of sea lice on the fish at the moment. Most of the bass I pulled last week had a fare few on. Ichy

Could be Dan................, but if I was a macky near the surface and had a Bass on my ass I'd jump clear of the water too

Great to here you had a cracking day Paul. The sunfish is turning up in a few places miles apart! Very inquisitive fish. They like looking at boats............ is it a mating ritual? Have a glance at the photo gallery here http://www.boat-fishing-reports.com/

Paul Well done Chap Tides pick up, so get stuck in TW

Had an absolutely cracking day last week on the last bass tide Wednesday, Left Poole quite late in the morning to head out to the mark stopping briefly a mile or so short to pick up mackeral joeys whilst the tide picked up. 50 or 60 in the bait wells we headed off to the first drift. Remembering my last trip I was dreading the first fish this time, as it was my first and last on that day You guessed it, Wedger's in first again. Determined not to make an ass of myself a second time, I took it really gently, and eventually landed a prime 5 lber. Drift after drift the fish came steadily in most around this 5lb stamp. By the end of the flood I had 5 fish between 4 and 7lbs. Slack water again saw us on the hunt for joey, but found it quite hard, this time, to find the smaller fish. Bigg

WHAT not a chance The upshot is that we would have lost stocking support for angling waters where indigenous populations of game fish spawn. Were it not for the availability of triploids that cannot interbreed with wild fish. You now have the best of both worlds where you can continue to stock and fish, game fish rivers, and allow the indigenous, fully adapted fish to continue reproducing without dilution from farmed strains. If properly managed, these waters would then still offer traditional angling opportunity and rod pressure and the choice of taking the odd fish as the sport has always offered, and releasing the wild fish. The alternative would be no stocking, compulsory catch and release for some waters closure of some waters and reduced availability on almost all waters.

Yep yer did I'll explain later, but its all good news for freshwater game fish sporting chaps

Hi Will I'll see if I can get my Wilson and crew fired up as Otter's not ready yet. No promises but I'll have a go. Trevor

I'm no expert, but whole skinned squid, really, really well presented should work

Thanks for the advice Most useful

Can any of you chaps tell me what batteries are most appropriate for 'Otter'. Seems the two I have are bit 5hag*"d out. we'll need the cracking power for a 130 TD Volvo. There's quite good space available and have 1/2/ and both switching. Anyone using solar panel trickle chargers? Are they of any worth? COST? Just a word on keeping you batteries topped up for the outboard user. Dispite never having real problems starting my Mariner 60 2 stroke, there were times when the battery was a bit low, but still she fired up well, and by the time we'd run through the harbour and to the mark we had full charge. WRONG MOVE Suddenly had a failure on all three pots this last spring as posted ealier. Finally had her fixed................ Diagnosis. Starting on low battery caused high alternator output when running. Result. Cooked stator................

You may have to consider a change in length of your main brake cable on some systems. Wedge

Tow chaps, I may have access to a weighbridge (at a quiet time of day) if anyone has trouble working things out. Just get in touch and I'll fix it. If there's a few of you, perhaps the Trailer Commodore would like to arrange a 'dry trail away'. Wedger

Custom frozen scent trails available from Wedger no need to keep slaughtering mackeral

I'd like a good look please. If you're at the meeting please bring it along. Wedger

Hey chaps. Strapping is one thing and brakes are another............ I towed the darlin' from Harwich, 200mls +, on an unknown trailer. The arrival photo would show 2 straps on the back and 2 at the front. I was not pilchard enough (thankfully) to have the new aquisition overtake me on the M25! .......... BELT & BRACES! keeps your pants clean The secondary straps are there, in part, 'cos the winch head is, 1) iffy, and 2), no winch or clasp. Maybe I just like tying things down and bonding bits to bobs. but hey............ everyones different

Excellent advice from one and all. Many thanks Appreciate your input Adam, and your interest in the MI 21. If you do go for a new or newish Pirate, of course you will have the modified hull. Correct me if I'm wrong but............... marginally more efficient lines, bit more stable and MORE SPEED POTENTIAL!! Positive safety thought Adam............. but she is braked
