Excellent! Zed- whereabouts are you? Trev- Same question! Jim- Same question! Adam- I think you're quite a way out of Poole these days? Perhaps we could organise a bit of a circular route between us? C.

If anyone in the Poole area needs to get rid of soil, old bricks/blocks or smallish rubble, I've got a whole in the ground to fill, close to the club meeting venue. Let me know please! C.

Great report Mike, glad the Fox family were able to make the most of their two weeks away, and managed to catch a few fish. Sounds like you like your new electronics too! C.

Yep, Rob & I on Star Turn

Yep, mine's a H reg, 2.5 SWB, so those parts would be most welcome! I'm a member of the Pajero Owners club and have got a lot of gen from their forum (don't tell Paul D that I go on another forum!) including step by step instructions for the Rocker cover gasket and half moon seals. This was done just before I bought the Paj but I don't think it was done very well. There is definitely some oil coming from here but I don't think it's the only source. I need to clean the engine and then with engine running do the check under the bonnet test. I'll probably come up looking like a coal miner!

I suppose we're saying the bags the lures come in are the same grade of plastic as food bags (food grade). So original packaginf bags and food bags are OK. Other bags such as the coin ones from banks aren't made from the same grade of plastic and are therefore likely to melt due to the chemical reaction.

Yeah, agreed, there is always going to be a kind of rush-hour, expecially in such a beautiful area, no matter how good (or bad) the actual slipway facilities are. We would normally avoid peak times as well... It's why we cycle when we go to the beach! Busy I can cope with, what really gets me riled is the kind of unmoderated chaos that prevails at Baiter when it's even slightly busy, mainly caused by the "I'm smaller than you so I don't need to queue" brigade or the "I'm too special to get out of the way into a space while I prepare to launch/tow-home/wash-down" crowd. There's no way you can even queue for the fresh water point with a boat when there are four or 5 jetskis there (unless you're very selfish and don't mind blocking the road or the slipway). As one leaves, another slips in. They have a right to use the fresh water point yes, but so do the boats. Have another point, one for boats, one for jetskis. They are quite prepared to open up the field when it's busy, to make more money, so how about spending some of it on the facility. The whole site needs active attendants. Whilst not wanting to offend anyone's friends, I'm sure the bloke in the portacabin gets paid to run the facility, not just hide in the portacabin on order to avoid confrontation. If that means they need 2 attendents at weekends I'm sure the extra revenue raised by opening up the field for parking would meet, and by far exceed, this. From a regulatory point of view, I'm very surprised they haven't fallen foul of the DDA by failing to provide an embarkation/disembarkation pontoon for less agile passengers. It's a pain having to launch at Baiter and then motor back around to the quay to pick up/set down. I believe (from advice on this forum!) that this is the nearest place where passengers can easily get in and out. I know Coddy & Mike went down this route on behalf of the club once before, and they were just banging their heads against a brick wall. Even though we are a big club, I guess we aren't big enough. Does the liaison officer attend any groups which would lobby for improvements at Baiter, not neccesarily in increasing slip depth, but width, washdown and improvements to it's policing?

Thanks for the pointers guys. My plan is to clean the engine and surrounding 'oil collection points' and then start from the top of the engine and work down. Rocker cover and breathers will get looked at, ta. The engine oil level doesn't drop very quickly, and other levels don't seem to change at all. The diesel level drops pretty quickly though! Joking aside, I was owndering if perhaps I might have a small fuel leak (as well as oil leak) which is thinning the oil and making it 'go further'? The other problem I have is currently I'd have to do this owrk on the road... unles my front garden parking space is finished soon!

I think we're all pretty clear that a nice new deep water public slip is very unlikely to get built by this council. If only Baiter had a few of the thousands of pounds that it makes in parking and launching tickets, (let alone god knows how much local revenue from people bringing their boats to Poole) reinvested on it (more wash-down points, widen the slip on both sides to accomodate Jet-skis and other shallow launch vessels, leaving the main slip for boats) and was run properly (a couple of uniformed individuals stopping queue jumping and ignorant parking) then it would be much improved. I would have thought the environmental impact of widening the existing slip would be minimal, and reasonably low-cost too. Perhaps the beach launching facilites that have been proposed for Sandbanks will be forthcoming- I would imagine that would reduce Baiter's popularity... Yep Paul, deep water launching would make life easier and I think the chain ferry slip was less busy than Baiter! When we recovered there were actually spaces in Baiter car park, but some selfish *people* were parking on the 'road' blocking several spaces rather than getting in a space. Others were double parking on the wash downs and blocking access to the slip and the 'road'. The slip was a total scrum with some people being too special to wait their turn. A couple of Attendents should be able to stop that kind of behaviour from happening. Or am I being daft?! I realise that if I don't like mixing with the Great Unwashed then I just need to spend a few more quid and launch at one of the more exclusive facilities locally!

Basically the Paj p155es oil out when it's used! When the vehicle is run, oil is escaping from the engine. When I stop, the escaped oil runs down and drips off the underside, so anywhere I park gets a good covering! It's not dripping constantly (i.e. when engine off), just when engine is running. I guess I need to clean the engine so I can run it and see where the oil is coming from, then if feasible sort it out. Rocker cover is prime suspect.

Don't know if any of you guys used Baiter yesterday. First decent weather we've had in ages, of course it was going to be busy... It was a bloody free-for-all. Jet-skis all over the place, people queue-jumping, people parking all over the place I know it's the public slip and cheap, but the Council must have made a few thousand pounds yesterday alone- when was the last time they spent any money on it? Of course jet-skis have as much right to launch as anyone else, but they launch so easily that many of them don't need to hog the slip area that the boats do need. We all know how a steeper slip is unlikely, but surely the existing one could be made much wider? A couple more wash down points would be good so that people waiting for them don't block up the whole car park. And people who are taking off/putting on trailer boards etc should park in a space, not on the road! And the bloke in the porta-cabin should get out and get a grip of what is going on! Sorry, Victor Meldrew moment over... Had a luvverly day on the water though...

I guess that's a no then!

Fell in, wearing a lifejacket... I would suggest what they need to do next is buy a ladder
-
You could still join the club, no need to own a boat! Then perhaps come out on a boat from time to time when you're feeling a bit lazy! BTW, did we see you by the groynes off Mudeford on Sunday- orange yak, man with a very bendy fishing rod?
-
I was gong to suggest that but didn't want to put Simon off a sale! But seeing as Charlie C has brought it up - there are a lot of smaller scale chaps such as myself who would love such a club asset.
-
Hi Simon I want it but do I need it! I can see it's an absolute bargain and ice flaker of the dogs whatsits standards. I think for the frequency that I manage to get out, and the size of my ice-box, this is overkill a bit for me. It's a shame but I can't really argue it with the FPO! Sorry to muck you around and I'm happy to go to the bottom if the list!
-
Hi Simon Just been thinking about it really. It's obviously a great opportunity! Are all your hospital cases likely to be about this much to fix and have this kind of capacity, or this one more of a one-off? C.
-
You will have a great time on board Court Jester, Simon. C.
-
That's OK then, in that case, what are you doing on here? Get on with it!
-
Sorry, didn't mean for that to come across like an order!

Yes please, still interested! Have a gander at it and give me your professional opinion!
